Groundwater is undeniably crucial to people's lives, particularly in coastal regions. Therefore, it is imperative to address this vital water source strategically and implement a management plan to maintain its optimal state. The salinization of groundwater poses a significant challenge for coastal communities, stemming from factors like excessive groundwater extraction from coastal aquifers, reduced recharge, rising sea levels, climate change, and other causes. Saltwater intrusion (SWI) is a prevalent issue that needs attention, as it significantly threatens groundwater quantity and quality. SWI happens when saline water infiltrates coastal aquifers, contaminating freshwater supplies. This review article aims to define SWI, explore its causes and influencing factors, and discuss various monitoring techniques. Additionally, it examines different modeling methods and management tools, including remote sensing, field surveys, modeling approaches, and optimization techniques. To mitigate the adverse effects of SWI, several control measures are outlined, along with their pros and cons. The final section reviews previous SWI studies and case studies from the Nile Delta, Sinai Peninsula, and North-West coast in Egypt. These studies offer suggestions, adaptations, and mitigation measures for future research.

Background: </b>Vitamin D plays an important role in the development of bone health and possibly non-communicable diseases. Arab countries had made their own national studies to assess serum vitamin D level among women, yet in Egypt there is no national survey<b> </b>done. The aim of the current study was to identify risk factors affecting vitamin D level among Egyptian females during the child-bearing period.<b> Subjects and methods: </b>A total of 100 healthy adult females in their childbearing period who were attending a Family Medicine Center were included in our study. The age of the included women ranged from 19 to 49 years old with a mean age of 34 (SD 8.47) years. The majority of participants had deficiency (43%) and insufficiency (13%) of vitamin D level. <b>Results: </b>Unemployed women were more likely to have vitamin D deficiency than employed women (P<0.05). Participants who were exposed to sun ˃30 minutes/day were more likely to have sufficient vitamin D level (P<0.05). All participants who consume fish ≥3 times/week had sufficient vitamin D level. Therefore, there was a statistically significance association between a number of consuming fish/week and vitamin D3 level groups. Also, there was statistically significant association between number of consumed milk cups/day and vitamin D3 level groups. All participants who drink 2 cups of milk have sufficient vitamin D level.<b> </b>No statistically significance association was found between using multivitamins and vitamin D3 level groups.<b> Conclusion: </b>Unemployment, low fish consumption and infrequent sun exposure were significant risk factors for vitamin D deficiency. Future research on the role of multivitamins supplements in improving vitamin D nutrition is warranted.

<b>Background: </b>On the first of October 2018, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) launched an initiative; named “100 Million Healthy Lives”, for nationwide screening of hepatitis c virus (HCV) and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Egypt has the highest prevalence of HCV infection in the world where about 10% of the Egyptian population is affected by the disease. NCDs are the leading cause of mortality in Egypt and account for about 84% of all deaths. This study was conducted to a) Estimate the prevalence of participation in the national campaign on viral hepatitis C and non-communicable diseases among administrative workers in Ain shams University (ASU), b) Estimate the self-reported satisfaction of these participants with the campaign. <b>Subjects and</b> <b>Methods: </b>A cross-sectional study was conducted on 400 administrative workers of ASU faculties between March and August 2019 in Cairo, Egypt. A multistage random sample was done. <b>Results: </b>The study showed that 96% of the study group participated in the campaign. “Evaluating health status” was considered the main reason for participation at 92%, followed by "desire to obtain follow-up card", at 36%. Non-participation rate was about 4% and the main cause of non-participation was “fear of needle prick". About 91% of the participants were satisfied with the provided services. Mass media played a major role in awareness about the campaign for 91% of participants. <b>Conclusions: </b>The majority of the study group participated and was satisfied with the campaign. Mass media played a major role in participant awareness of the campaign.

Street vending is a vital part of global urban life and not a local phenomenon. It can be found in various countries and forms; stationary and mobile. In Egypt, street vendors’ activities are considered illegal, an image of backwardness, blocking investors and tourism. This study aims at monitoring and investigates the female street vendors' role in placemaking in Heliopolis, Cairo. Challenging the authoritarian illegality aspect, literature review, observational walks, and spontaneous interviews are adopted in obtaining data and evaluating the female street vendors’ role in constructing a sense of place and identity. Female street vendors' expression, displaying arrangement, socio-cultural identities and chancy events create livable public places, territorial identities and a sense of place.

The duck industry makes an important contribution to the availability of animal protein sources in Egypt, little known about the genetic parameters, particularly the heritability and genetic correlations of body weight and egg production in ducks. Body weight is the most essential feature for genetic improvement due to its ease of selection, high heredity, and large impact on meat production costs. The target of this study was to evaluate and explain genetic parameters such as the heritability, the genetic and phenotypic correlations, and sire breeding value in Domyati (local) and Khaki-Campbell (foreign) ducks in order to improve body weight and egg traits. A total of 160 (80 Domyati and 80 Khaki-Campbell ducks utilized to measure body weight at 16 and 20 weeks g), as well as 7000 eggs (2500 Domyati and 4500 Khaki-Campbell) to measure egg traits (the egg number, egg weight, and egg mass are all measured throughout the first 90 days of laying). In Domyati and Khaki-Campbell ducks, the heritability estimated for body weight was moderate to high, ranged from 0.35 to 0.40, and 0.21 to 0.30 for egg production. The genetic correlations among body weight and egg traits were all positive and had high values, also among BW16 and BW20 were stronger (0.90); (0.99). So the genetic improvement in BW16 could be followed by an increase in BW20 weeks. It concluded that, the relatively high value of genetic heritability for body weights and egg traits in Domyati and Khaki-Campbell ducks, indicates that it is possible to genetically increase body weight and egg traits through selection and subsequently inbreeding to divide the herd into groups that are selected among themselves to keep their sons.

Native Middle Egypt Rabbit breed (NMER) was crossbred with Gaint Flander rabbits to create a synthetic line. This study was aimed to evaluate the genetic estimates of this synthetic line with comparing to the purebreds. A crossbreeding was carried out by mating bucks of Gaint Flander (G) with does of NMER (N) to get F1 (½N½G), then does and bucks of F1 were mated to get F2 (½N½G)2, followed by two generations of inter se-mating to get a new synthetic line is called Egy-line with a genetic structure of ((½N½G)2)2. Heritability estimates for body weights were generally moderate and ranged from 0.10 to 0.24, while the estimates of heritability for growth rate were low and moderate and ranging from 0.01 to 0.23. Common little effects of body weight were large as weaning (0.61), then declined gradually as the rabbit grew older. Also, the same trends were observed for relative growth rate (RGR). The direct additive effects were positive and highly significant for all body weights at different ages, favoring Gaint Flander and heavier comparing with NMER rabbits. Most relative growth rates during different intervals were non-significant. Gaint Flander was highly significant and heavier in maternal additive effects it in different weeks of age comparing with NMER rabbits. Direct heterosis effect for most bodyweight was positive and highly significant, and percentages of direct heterosis increased generally with the advance of age. Maternal heterosis for growth rates from 5 to 6, 8 to 10, and 10 to 12 week was positive, only. Direct recombination effects for most bodyweight were positive and highly significantly exclude weight at 5 and 6 weeks. It is concluded that a new synesthetic line (Egy-line) has proven its superiority and performance well in all different body weights and most growth rates compared to other parents and crossbreds.
