<b>Objective:</b> This systematic review aimed to identify, synthesize, and critically analyze the available evidence on clinical protocols used for the prevention and treatment of prosthetic joint infection (PJI) in total hip arthroplasty (THA), based on studies published between 2000 and 2025. <b>Methods:</b><b> </b>The review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Electronic searches were performed in PubMed (MEDLINE), Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase between January and April 2025. Eligible studies included clinical trials, cohort studies, case-control studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses published in English that addressed either preventive or therapeutic strategies for PJI in THA. Study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment were carried out independently by two reviewers. Due to the heterogeneity of the included studies, a qualitative synthesis was performed. <b>Results:</b><b> </b>A total of 32 studies were included. Preventive measures identified in the literature comprised combined antibiotic prophylaxis (cefazolin and gentamicin), multimodal perioperative protocols such as ACERTO, nasal decolonization for <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i>, silver-impregnated dressings, and structured post-discharge surveillance. Treatment strategies included DAIR (Debridement, Antibiotics, and Implant Retention), the DAPRI technique, one-stage and two-stage revision surgeries, muscle flap reconstructions, and protocols without spacers. These interventions were associated with significantly reduced infection rates and improved clinical outcomes when applied appropriately and in accordance with patient-specific factors. <b>Conclusion:</b><b> </b>Effective prevention and treatment of PJI in total hip arthroplasty require a systematic and evidence-based approach. Integrated protocols—spanning preoperative optimization, meticulous intraoperative techniques, and rigorous postoperative monitoring—have proven effective in reducing infection incidence. In cases of established infection, surgical management must be tailored to the timing of infection, microbial profile, and host conditions. Two-stage revision remains the gold standard for complex infections, while one-stage revision and emerging techniques like DAPRI offer promising results in selected cases. This review contributes to the standardization of clinical practice and supports improved patient outcomes.

<b>Background:</b> Scapulohumeral periarthritis commonly afflicts individuals in their middle age. Its etiology is multifaceted, and treatment presents a challenge with a high risk of recurrence. The main symptoms include shoulder pain and limited joint mobility, seriously affect the quality of life of the patients. Recent research indicate that acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping can significantly improve the function of activity of shoulder joint and the pain in individuals with scapulohumeral periarthritis. However, these studies have typically been limited in scope, therefore additional research to substantiate the efficacy and safety of these intervention. <b>Methods:</b> To evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping for treating patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis. We conducted an online search of databases in both Chinese and English, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, Wangfang Data, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP) and Chinese BioMedical Literature Database (CBM), to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) concerning the use of acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping in scapulohumeral periarthritis patients. We also examined the references within the identified literature. Search utilised subject headings and free-text terms in both languages, without racial restrictions, for records up to April 3, 2024. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and evaluated their qualities. RevMan 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis of the included studies. The protocol of this review was recorded in the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (PROSPERO). Its registration number is CRD42023454614. <b>Results:</b> This review incorporated 22 RCTs involving a total of 1,774 patients. The results of meta-analysis showed that the clinical effective rate (RR=1.25, 95%CI [1.20, 1.30], P＜0.00001) of treating scapulohumeral periarthritis with acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping was higher in the experimental group than in the control group. The all of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score (MD=-1.70, 95% CI [-2.17, -1.22], P＜0.00001). Melle score (SMD=-2.45, 95% CI [-2.55, -2.34], P=0.007]) and recurrence rate (RR=0.23, 95% CI [0.07, 0.77], P=0.02) were lower in the experimental group than in the control group with statistical significance (P<0.05). <b>Conclusion:</b> The acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping for the treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome demonstrates definite efficacy and safety, with superior clinical effectiveness, pain relief, improvement in shoulder joint mobility, and reduction in recurrence compared to acupuncture alone. Therefore, it is worthy of being promoted and applied clinically.

This paper examines the impact of primary level classroom environments on the acquisition of English as a second language (L2) in Bangladesh, comparing English-medium and Bangla-medium schools. The study investigates how different instructional approaches and early exposure to English influence language proficiency among students. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and proficiency tests, the research reveals significant differences in language acquisition outcomes between the two educational settings. Findings indicate that students in English-medium schools, who are exposed to Natural approach methods of language learning and immersive English-speaking environments, demonstrate higher proficiency in speaking and listening skills compared to their Bangla-medium counterparts, who primarily receive grammar-focused instruction. The study highlights the critical role of early exposure to English, with students who begin learning the language at a younger age showing better phonological and syntactic development. Additionally, the integration of technology in language teaching emerges as a valuable tool for enhancing language learning, particularly in contexts with limited classroom exposure. The research suggests that Bangla-medium schools could benefit from adopting more interactive, student-centered teaching methods and integrating digital tools to support practical language use. The study's findings have significant implications for educational policy, advocating for a shift towards more immersive and communicative teaching practices to improve English language acquisition in Bangladesh. This research contributes to the broader understanding of SLA and offers practical recommendations for enhancing language education in similar contexts.

Extracurricular activities and academic performance are connected in every aspect of the education system. Daffodil International University is one of the top universities in Bangladesh that focuses on student improvement through extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities help students improve skills like leadership, teamwork, and analytical abilities. Do extracurricular activities help English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students improve their academic performance? This evaluation aims to find out this question among Daffodil International University students. The study focused on both qualitative and quantitative data. Therefore, the data analysis followed a mixed method. The quantitative data focused on the students' participation in extracurricular activities. Respectively, the comparison between their participation and EFL course improvement. On the other hand, the qualitative data focused on the interviewee's experience. However, it's been proven that though extracurricular activities help students improve their other soft skills, they actually don't have as much impact on improving their EFL course curriculum performance.

Good academic writing requires a good combination of cohesive ties and coherent features in the text. This study aimed to assess whether paragraph unity and coherence in writing were achieved among students of the Komenda College of Education concerning gender. Lakoff’s Theory underpinned the study. The quantitative approach and a descriptive research design were used in the study. The sample size was 60 (40 males and 20 females). Level 200 students from the Komenda College of Education Department of English were selected using census techniques. The instruments used for data collection were text items and questionnaires. Paragraphs written by the students were analysed using narratives, and quantitative data was analysed using mean, standard deviation and the independent samples t-test. The study revealed that male students have a higher mean score than female students. The study also concluded that there was no significant difference between male and female students regarding achieving paragraph unity and coherence in writing. In other words, gender does not influence how paragraph unity and coherence are achieved in writing – males and females are statistically the same. It is recommended that the principals of the various colleges of education in Ghana encourage the college tutors and the Student Representative Council (SRC) leadership to introduce a programme which engages college students in competitive writing without gender barriers. This programme will ensure that students compete by writing academic papers, demonstrating their knowledge of achieving unity and coherence in writing. This programme can be done every academic year, and an equal number of males and females are presented yearly.

Qualitatively, the study adopted a case research design. The population of this study comprised the last batch of Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) and the current first-year students of the new programme (Bachelor in Basic Education) of Mount Mary College of Education. Simple random and stratified sampling techniques were used to select 15 long essays from the final year, while 30 assignments were chosen from the first year. Nine (9) long essays from the English language, five (5) essays from Social Studies and one (1) essay from Mathematics. The main tools used for the study were students' assignment items and copies of long essays. Through an interpretative lens, the data were analysed into themes. The data and the analysis largely showed that students employed different kinds of modal verbs in their writing, including complete and periphrastic modal verbs. There was evidence that students have used these modal verbs in different ways that sometimes affected the intended meaning. These inappropriate choices are evident in both written texts and oral presentations. Findings showed that students employed modal verbs indiscriminately with little attention to contexts. It would be recommended that language teachers deal with the issue by giving written feedback on the use of modal verbs to students in their texts anytime they are given assignments.

This study investigated the English-only language-in-education policy in three primary schools in Ghana: University Primary, OLA Presby Primary and Apewusika Primary School in the Cape Coast Metropolitan in the Central Region of Ghana. The study employed Coulmas’s (2005) eight-step language planning model as a conceptual framework for the study. Nine teachers were randomly selected from Basic One to Basic Three to respond to the selection and supply items. The selected items were analysed and put into frequencies and percentages, while the supply items were coded into recurrent themes. Findings from data indicate that most teachers preferred using the local language (Fante) as a medium of instruction in the lower primary. The study also revealed that code missing is a significant feature in teacher-learner interaction. It was also observed that teachers encountered little problems when using Fante as a medium of instruction. Finally, most teachers express a lukewarm attitude towards using English as a medium of instruction in the lower primary school.

This article is focus on the features of teaching English vocabulary on the basis of developing professional competence of students, methodological analysis of teaching active, passive, real and novocabular vocabulary in English, the ways of teaching English vocabulary.

The thrust of this paper is to delve into the cohesive devices of political discourse as it pertains to Nelson Mandela‘s <i>I Am the First Accused</i>. The text was codified and the lexico-grammatical resources were examined in terms of semantic ties through the lens of Discourse analysis. The text was analysed based on Halliday and Hasan’s, 1976 five major cohesion classification categories<i>: r</i><i>eference,</i><b> </b><i>demonstrative references,</i><i> </i><i>substitution</i><i>, conjunction and lexical cohesion</i>. The research indicated that there were sufficient phenomenon-example relationships within the text. In other words, there was adequate justification for claim statements within the text. There are also adequate cause-consequential relations in the text. Anaphoric references were commonplace in the text. It was also found out that cataphoric reference was sparingly used in the text. Analysis of the data also revealed that there were 30 instances of personal references, 21 demonstrative references, 3 instances of comparative references, and 6 instances of substitution. There were no instances of ellipsis. There were 7 instances of conjunction as a semantic link. There were 15 instances of repetition, 5 examples of synonyms and 3 instances of antonyms. It is recommended that public speakers and media practitioners take cognisance of cohesive devices and make their write-ups and speeches more cohesive and coherent for their audience and readers to decode meaning. Teachers of English as a second language should give serious attention to the teaching of cohesion as a semantic link within a text since cohesion and coherence aid the readability of a text. Cataphoric references sustain the interest of listeners and readers since they expect information yet to be given. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers of English as a second language should encourage their students to use some cataphors in their essays to create some kind of suspense in their readers. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) could also be used as an analytical tool to examine how power plays within the text.

English language has become a global language due to first, the results of British colonial expansion and, global commercial interests. It has become a lingua franca in many countries, including Ghana. Qualitatively, the study adopted case study research design. The purpose of the study was to find out the perception and the attitude of Ghanaian English teachers towards the Native Speakers’ accents. The population of study consists of all ten (10) tutors in the Department of Languages, Offinso College of Education. Purposive and convenient sampling techniques were used to select the college and the tutors for the study. The main tool used for the collection of data was the semi-structured interview. Most of the participants revealed positive attitudes towards their own English accents which were different from that of the native speaker. Ghanaians are often faced with the challenge of which accent to use when communicating with each other and with outsiders. Most of the tutors from Offinso College of Education who participated in this study expressed positive responses to their non-native speaker’s accents. Not only did the idea of having a native speaker’s accent hold no attraction for them but they also found it strange because it would not represent their L1 identity<b>. </b>The majority of participants in this study preferred to use their non-native accents to attempt to adopt those of the native speaker. To them, there is only one distinction between English accents -you are either a native or non-native.

This paper investigated the role of informal diglossia on the learning of languages in Seventh Day Adventist<b> (</b>S. D. A) College of Education in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Mixed research approach was adopted for the study. Population of the study comprised one hundred level 300 students in S. D. A. College of Education in Asokore-Koforidua. Purposive, convenient and simple random techniques were to select the college, level 300 students for the study. The main instruments used for data collection for study were questionnaire and interview. Data were analyzed in line with Speech Accommodation Theory, where convergence and divergence were identified. The findings of the study revealed that the S. D. A. College of Education has a multilingual speech community where languages are in contact; students select their language of communication, depending upon their speech partners based on High or Low variety. Predominantly, students code-switch between languages specifically Twi and English language. In the midst of the multilingual environment, students developed the speaking of some Ghanaian languages they could not speak before coming to the college. The study also concluded that there was adult language acquisition in colleges; besides, in a formal academic setting where students were expected to communicate in the formal language, they rather gave were much higher attention to Ghanaian languages.

This paper examined the language of persuasion and negotiation in the Ghanaian market context using a local community market (Agartha Market) in Koforidua as a case study. It investigates how the language of persuasion and negotiation is couched in the context of the market by both traders and customers. The theoretical framework within which this study is hinged is the stylistic theory of Leech and Short [1]. Specifically, the grammatical and figure-of-speech prong of the theory have been used. While observation and audio recordings were used to collect the data, the content descriptive method was used in the description and analysis of the data. The findings revealed that, relative to sentence complexity, persuasion and negotiation made adequate use of compound sentences than simple sentence structures. While simple sentence structures are used by traders to attract customers’ attention and arouse their psychological interest and curiosity, customers used them in negotiations for mainly interrogative and position-shift purposes. Compound and complex structures were used by traders for elaborative purposes in order to espouse the good qualities that are inherent in their products in order to convince their customers to buy their wares. Figuratively, repetition, hyperbole, and suspense are the key tropes used. These tropes are dominant in persuasion than in negotiation. Again, while the language of persuasion is monologue that of negotiation is dialogue. Code-mixing is also common characteristic in the language of negotiation and persuasion. The dominant local language (Twi) and the official language (English) are usually used in the communication process. This research thus has implication for research and pedagogy as it extends the literature and can also influence the restructuring of educational polices especially those related to language since society and school (education) are intricately related.

Addressing adolescent and sexual reproductive healthcare is essential to providing young patients with the resources they need to navigate and empower themselves with. However, there is limited data about how often this occurs. Several studies have previously indicated that there is a large gap in accessing this gap in low-income neighborhoods. Our study aims to identify the establishment of gynecologic care among adolescent cisgender women and elucidate potential reasons for seeking or not seeking out care. We approached women in the pediatric emergency room that matched the inclusion criteria set out. Qualitative surveys were conducted until thematic saturation was reached and a cross-section study design was employed. Interviews were analyzed through modified ground theory. The study was conducted at the pediatric emergency department at University Hospital located in Newark, NJ. In 2018 estimates, the Newark population consists of 47.0% Black and 39.2% Hispanic or Latinos. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 27 cisgendered, English-speaking females between ages 18 to 25 presenting to the pediatric emergency room who may or may not have previously established primary care with a gynecologist. Transcriptions were analyzed using modified grounded theory and themes were identified using inductive coding of patient interviews.

<b>Background:</b> Onchocerciasis is a vector-borne neglected tropical disease (NTD) caused by the filarial worm <i>Onchocerca</i><i> volvulus</i>. Given the high morbidity and mortality, onchocerciasis control gained great attention from many stakeholders both nationally and internationally. However, there are still the need for further solidified commitments and compelling initiatives across concerned stakeholders including regional bodies in the fight toward controlling its burden and risks. Thus, this review briefly appraised the current understanding and dynamics in the control and eradication efforts of Onchocerciasis in Africa. <b>Methods:</b> A rapid scoping review was used for this paper. Key databases used for this study include Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed and Google Scholar to identify a series of relevant peer-reviewed publications. The search contained just English-language articles. In addition, African government websites and specialized organizations such as WHO, UNAIDS, CDC, etc. were accessed and reviewed to gather important data on national and international control programs, related documentation and consultative expert reports. <b>Results:</b> In Africa, long-standing strides toward the control and elimination measures for onchocerciasis were conducted for several decades. Between 1974 to 2002, OCP had actively led the control and containment efforts for onchocerciasis in the context of 11 West Africa. However, endemic regions and states have switched their policies from controlling to eradication, with the ultimate objective of preventing their territories from parasite spread. Some key challenges are the insufficient identification of all endemic areas, high prevalence of both onchocerciasis and loiasis, potential development of resistance to ivermectin, inconsistent initiatives to address cross-border problems, disagreements and social disturbance. Various challenges, however, impede current efforts to eradicate African onchocerciasis. <b>Conclusion</b>: In the last decades, extensive measures have been taken with specialized state programs, largely efficient in high endemic nations, to manage and control onchocerciasis in African regions. The implications of these and other difficulties at country level control programs must therefore be identified and country-specific contextual remedies used to expedite the elimination of onchocerciasis.

An advertisement is the promotion of a product, brand, or service to customers in order to pique their attention and increase sales. Advertisement comes in many forms, like video, picture, and song. The main purpose of advertising is to make the product or brand known to the public and bought by people. In advertising, the producer or company will use the slogan as the product identity itself. Slogan can give bridge the advertisement about the image of product. In slogan there are short words, often memorable to send a message of the advertisement to the people. This study aimed to analyze the type of figurative language used in advertisement slogan. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative method. In this research, the researchers focused on English slogan of Indonesia advertising. The data were collected from internet, newspaper and television. Furthermore, the collected data were analyzed by Kennedy’s (1983) theory. The researchers found there were 15 English slogan of advertisement. Based on the data analysis, the result of the research showed that the most types figurative language used in advertisement slogan was Metaphor (33,33%) or 5 slogans, personification (26,66%) or 4 slogans, hyperbole (26,66% ) or 4 slogans and symbol (13,33%) 2 slogans. The researchers did not found type of figurative language Simile, Litotes, Synecdoche, Allusion, Paradox, Irony, Ellipsis and Metanymy in advertisement slogans. As we can see, the dominant type of figurative language used in advertisement slogan was Metaphor with total amount 5 slogans (33,33%) from the data.

Air pollution is currently considered a global problem in both developing and developed countries. Substances that invade our spaces are components of air pollution that cause a strong negative impact on health for those who are exposed, not only in the cardiovascular and respiratory systems but are being related to the etiology of pathologies throughout the body, with a decrease in life expectancy and even an increase in mortality and alterations of the genetic material. This literature review aims to collect employing a search the implications that the components of air pollution have on the health of those exposed, from a clinical and molecular point of view. For the search, the DeCS descriptors created by BIREME were used: air pollution, cardiovascular system, respiratory diseases. The following databases were consulted: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. The search criteria considered the year of publication and whether the original language was English or Spanish. It was concluded that the study of the different particles and the consequences that exposure to them entails is of vital importance for the development of control, prevention, and treatment mechanisms; since they can generate pathologies that range from something as tangible as lung diseases and occlusive heart disease to epigenetic changes that affect health.
