Assessment of Handling Practices and Awareness of Aflatoxin Contamination in Spices among Micro and Small-Scale Processors in Tanzania

Frequent consumption of aflatoxins-contaminated spices has been linked to serious adverse health effects among consumers. The likelihood of exposure to these toxins is influenced by the level of public awareness. Controlling aflatoxins contamination throughout the food chain is critical for public health. This study aimed to assess the handling practices and awareness of aflatoxin contamination among micro- and small-scale spice processors. A total of 60 processors from 4 districts of two regions of Tanzania were interviewed. The results showed that while 56.7% of interviewed processors were aware of aflatoxin contamination in spices primarily through training (38.3%) and mass media (30%). However, there were still misconceptions regarding the causes and effects of aflatoxins to human health. It was observed that, poor drying and storage practices, inadequate monitoring of processors aggravated the situation. Nonetheless, all interviewed processors expressed willingness to participate in training programs to ensure quality and safety along the chain. The study findings underscore the necessity for targeted interventions to reduce aflatoxin risks in the spice value chain. These should include strengthened food safety inspections and enforcement, as well as tailored training and support for micro and small-scale spice processors. Enhancing their knowledge and ability to adopt proper handling, drying and storage practices is critical for enhancing food safety and safeguarding public health.

This study aimed to assess the knowledge level of street food vendors on hygiene in the Tamale metropolis in the Northern Region of Ghana. The study employed the health belief model as the theoretical basis. Quantitatively, the study employed a descriptive cross-sectional study design to examine the microbial load of street-cut fruits and assess the knowledge and practice of vendors of cut fruits on personal and food hygiene in the study setting. The population consists of cut and vented pawpaw, watermelon, and street fruit vendors registered with the health directorate in the Tamale Metropolis. A convenient sampling technique was used to select 113 respondents for the study. The Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size to select one hundred and thirteen participants (113) out of one hundred and fifty-eight street fruit vendors in the Tamale Metropolis. The main instrument for data collection was a questionnaire. A questionnaire had close-ended questions which were developed using a 'Yes' and 'No' response, and a four-point Likert-type scale ranging from 1=Strongly Disagree (SD), 2=Disagree (D), 3=Agree (A) and 4= Strongly Agree (SA). The data were analysed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentages, means and standard deviation). The findings revealed that the overall knowledge level of respondents is low. The findings also indicate that vendors do not control the rate at which their customers touch their vended fruits. It is recommended that Street fruit vendors and handlers be educated on fruit hygiene practices through engagement by the Health Directorate Unit of Tamale Metropolis and the Ministry of Health. To keep consumers safe, the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly must strictly enforce compliance with regulations on operation permits and health clearance certificates. Metropolitan sanitation officers must regularly monitor fruit vendors to ensure compliance with goods.

Searching for What You Can’t See - Evaluation of Pesticide Residues in Grain Sold at Selected Markets of Southwest Nigeria

Studies on the use of pesticides in southwest Nigeria have revealed a substantial rise in a variety of pesticide-related illnesses, including mental impairment and reproductive problems. Those who work in agriculture and are regularly exposed to pesticides are the most impacted. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that three million severe pesticide poisoning episodes occur globally each year, with at least 300.000 deaths and 99% of cases occurring in low- and middle-income nations. The effects of longer-term exposure to pesticides on health are not yet precisely estimated. Objectives: To this end, the objective of this study is to assess the knowledge of pesticide residues and common pesticides in grain-based food (brown and white beans, yellow and white maize, brown millet and rice) about pesticide use in selected markets of Southwest Nigeria. Methods: A total of 240 respondents were selected from four states (Ado-Ekiti, Ibadan, Osun and Ondo) with the aid of structured questionnaire and interview guide using purposive sampling technique. The markets were Oja-titun (market) Ile-Ife, Osun; Alesinloye Market Ibadan, Oyo; Oja Oba, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti; and Oja Oba, Akure Ondo State. The identification and quantification of pesticide residues was done using a Varian 3800/4000 gas chromatograph mass spectrometer while 60 structured questionnaires were administered to respondents including food merchants, buyers/consumers as well as food vendors. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: The experiment was conducted from November 2020 to November 2021. Up to 50.4% never read instructions on pesticide application while a shared 24.8% read them always and occasionally. The number of respondents who never read the instructions were particularly high in Ekiti and Ondo, up to 52.5% of the respondents in Ekiti do not know whether or not they are exposed to pesticides during application. Also, majority of the respondents never attended any professional training on pesticide application, this amounted to 79.3%. Most people were not aware that unsafe pesticide application is harmful to human health. Similarly, a wide variety of symptoms were reported by respondents following pesticide application or consumption of grains, these included headaches and dizziness, itching and redness of the eyes, skin allergy, diarrhea, and stomach disorder, vomiting and loss of appetite, weakness of the body, asthma, permanent skin patches, shortness of breath, excessive sweating. Millet recorded the highest number of OCP residues while maize had the lowest. On the contrary, maize had the highest number of OPP and carbamate residues while millet had the lowest number of OPP residues. Meanwhile, maize, rice and beans had only one carbamate pesticide residue. Conclusions: According to the study's conclusions, farmers who can only get information from agricultural extension officials should receive urgent and immediate attention for raising awareness. Additionally, extensive IPM training programs must be created with the intention of disseminating precautions for protecting human health and a healthy agro-ecosystem. In order to find more effective pest management methods that utilize less pesticides, it is crucial to reevaluate the pesticide residues and common pesticides found in grains in the targeted markets. To reduce farmers' exposure to pesticides, it is also required to establish personal protective measures, special educational initiatives, and legislation promoting the use of safer pesticides. Significance and novelty: This study gives policymakers a comprehensive understanding of the ways that may be utilized to close the significant knowledge gap on pesticide residues in grains and provides an insight into the knowledge of pesticide residues and common pesticides in grains.

Eating at home remains very much ingrained in Ghanaian culture but rapid urbanization coupled with busy lifestyle and advancement in technology has greatly changed the way of life of many Ghanaians. These changes have altered the tradition of cooking and eating at home. The study focused on the determinants of consumer patronage of street foods in the Koforidua Metropolis. The target population comprised customers that patronize the street foods in Koforidua Metropolis. From the target population, 197 consumers were selected using convenience. A structured self-administered questionnaire was utilized to gather the required data. The data collected were coded and analyzed with the help of SPSS-23. The findings revealed that food characteristics and social status determines consumers patronage of street food. It became evident that age (r=0.261, p<0.01), age (r=-0.318, P<0.01), educational level (r=0.144, P<0.05) and occupation (r=-0.477, P<0.01) of consumers has a significant influence on the decision and patronage of street food. The study concluded that food characteristics and social factors are major determinants of consumers patronage of street foods. It is recommended that Food and Drug Authority (FDA), other stakeholders, and street food vendors work cooperatively to establish laws that capture the distinctive and diverse foods sold on the street and their various preparation, storage, and sale methods in order to ensure that food preparation and sales are safe and hygienic.

In today’s world of a globalized economy and ubiquitous digital transactions, businesses are hungry for ways to increase transaction efficiency and security. In the real economy, solutions that scale to fit transaction volume or velocity are equally valuable. This is true for clearing and settlement and for the day-to-day needs of buyers and sellers alike. Clever observers of both cash and digital transactions can spot cases where technology that supports transaction security or safety can strengthen consumer-borrower ties, mitigate default risks, and reduce recidivism. In general, a cloud solution for payment processing and merchant services solves two major barriers to optimum business technology: lack of scalability and lack of security [1]. The extension of current practice has its advantages, but new solutions unlock significant opportunities for both consumers and financial institutions [2]. The focus of this work is on the provisioning of cloud-based payment processing and merchant services to financial institutions and established global organizations, although the options available with these services mean they are potentially applicable to a wide range of group entities, including non-trading organizations, pension administrators, and group treasurers. With the increased attention to cybersecurity, a mass of data is available to assist the IT departments of the major payment processors, merchants, and acquirers to get cybersecurity on the radar of C-level executives [3]. The case is put forward for the increased targeting of and reporting to the Board’s Audit, Risk, and Liability Committees of publicly held payment processors and merchants to reduce fraud losses and mitigate the reputation and class action lawsuit risk due to data breaches. The progress of technology in the payment sector requires all stakeholders to have a collective approach in order to mitigate fraud and cybersecurity-related risks in new products and services to enhance consumer confidence and the proportion of retail cashless transactions [4].

The pharmaceutical supply chain has become increasingly complex and vulnerable to various risks, including counterfeit drugs, diversion, and fraud. As these challenges threaten patient safety and the integrity of global healthcare systems, serialization has emerged as a pivotal innovation in pharmaceutical logistics and regulatory compliance. Serialization involves assigning unique identifiers to individual drug packages, enabling precise tracking and authentication at every stage of the supply chain. This process provides unprecedented transparency, enhances product security, and facilitates real-time monitoring of pharmaceutical products as they move from manufacturers to end consumers. Despite its potential to revolutionize pharmaceutical traceability, the integration of serialization technologies faces numerous obstacles. These include high implementation costs, regulatory inconsistencies across regions, and the technological challenges of managing vast amounts of data. Moreover, the complex, multi-tiered nature of the global supply chain introduces additional risks related to data integrity, cybersecurity, and interoperability between systems. As pharmaceutical companies seek to navigate these challenges, innovations in serialization technology—such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and radio frequency identification (RFID)—are providing promising solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce fraud, and increase visibility. This manuscript explores both the innovative advancements and the key challenges associated with the integration of serialization in the pharmaceutical supply chain. It delves into the evolving regulatory landscape, highlighting the need for global harmonization of serialization standards, and examines the impact of serialization on securing pharmaceutical distribution networks. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the importance of collaboration among manufacturers, technology providers, and regulatory bodies in overcoming implementation barriers and realizing the full potential of serialization. As the pharmaceutical industry moves towards a more interconnected and data-driven future, serialization promises to play a central role in shaping the next generation of drug safety and supply chain management. Pharmaceutical Product serialization aims to assign distinct serial numbers to items within a pharmaceutical supply chain. However, this process faces several security challenges like Theft of valid serial numbers may occur, enabling the labelling of counterfeit products. Therefore, it's essential to ensure the uniqueness of serial numbers can be verified at any point in the product's lifecycle within the supply chain. Intimidatory nodes along the distribution network could corrupt planned changes of custody for products. Ensuring verifiability of compliance with these changes is crucial. Manufacturers and consumers need assurance that perishable goods with expired shelf lives are appropriately discarded. In this paper, we review a product serialization method leveraging blockchain technology to address these security concerns within a multi-party perishable goods supply chain. Blockchains offer potential solutions by providing a secure platform for data sharing in multi-party environments, enhancing security and transparency. Within Blockchain technology, each distribution partner is registered to uphold transparency regarding drug information. The system facilitates real-time transfer of ownership changes, recording them as blocks with date and time stamps. This ensures visibility to all partners in real time, maintaining the authenticity of drugs. This article aims to outline how Blockchain technology benefits the pharmaceutical industry by enhancing traceability and trackability of drugs throughout the entire pharmaceutical supply chain.

This study aimed to assess the proximate composition, microbial quality, and sensory acceptability of canned Bambara beans in Ghana to determine their nutritional value and consumer perceptions. The research was conducted in Tamale in the northern region of Ghana, focusing on sensory evaluation, nutritional analysis, and consumer preferences for canned Bambara beans. The study utilized canned Bambara bean varieties sourced from local markets in Ghana. It involved sensory panels, proximate analysis, and microbial testing to evaluate the quality and safety of the canned products. Data analysis included sensory scoring, proximate composition determination, and microbial count assessments. The findings indicated positive consumer attitudes towards canned Bambara beans, emphasising their convenience, nutritional richness, and sensory appeal. Nutritional analysis revealed the nutrient content of the canned beans, highlighting their potential as a nutritious food source. Conclusions emphasised the importance of sensory attributes in consumer acceptance and women's role in producing and promoting Bambara beans. It is recommended that Increase awareness among consumers, especially women and homemakers, about the nutritional benefits and culinary versatility of canned Bambara beans. Educational campaigns highlighting canned Bambara beans' health advantages and convenience can encourage their inclusion in household diets. It is also recommended that women involved in the production and processing of Bambara beans should be supported and empowered through training, capacity building, and access to resources. Recognising the pivotal role of women in the Bambara bean value chain is essential for sustainable production practices and economic empowerment.

The purpose of this study was to examine people’s knowledge base on Burkina beverages in Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana. The study employed a Mixed Sequential Explanatory research approach. The population for the study were dairy consumers living in Winneba. The Krejcie and Morgan table in 1970 was used to determine the 381 sample size of this study. The study employed the purposive, convenient and simple random sampling technique to select 100 out of 381 respondents for the study. The instrument employed in this study was a semi-structured interview guide to generate responses on people’s knowledge of “Burkina”. An Independent t-test was used to test the null hypothesis raised at a 0.05 level of significance. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that respondents have substantial knowledge of “Burkina”. Street-sold “Burkina” can be modified using flavours and other cereals. Fresh milk must be pasteurized before using it for “Burkina”, well packaged, and sold in a hygienic condition. Certain factors such as packaging, environment, food safety, price, variation in thickness and flavours influence the rate of consumption of the “Burkina”. ‘‘Burkina’’ prepared with corn agglomerates had improved physicochemical attributes and health benefits. It is recommended that Food and Drug Authority representatives in winneba should regulate the “Burkina” samples on the Winneba market to ensure they are nutritious and, prepared and sold under hygienic conditions. There is the need also for Food and Drug Authority representatives in Winneba to ensure the standardization of the “Burkina” preparation to achieve a fair distribution of nutrients from all producers in Winneba and to ensure that the product meets standards before selling. Due to varying cereals, flavour options, good packaging, and pasteurization of the milk (fresh) and sold in a hygienic environment. It is again recommended that researchers develop ‘‘Burkina’’ with several flavour options and other cereals and test for consumer acceptability.

For conducting advanced analytics initiatives to acquire in-depth data into usage habits, regional access, sales, and promotional success, etc., unique identification of packaged pharmaceuticals will be a fantastic enabler. The main objective of this study is to prevent and reduce the production of erroneous and counterfeit drugs using the enterprise system, which has become a serious threat because it damages the reputation of legitimate drug manufacturers by trying to produce and market placebo medications that are identical to the real thing. Due to federal government procedures and priorities that frequently change over time, the majority of implementation takes time. To achieve compliance with numerous federal regulatory authorities, including drug traceability for patient safety, the pharmaceutical industry must implement a systematic procedure in an ERP environment. The goals would be to guarantee medical drug traceability and provide real-time warnings to supply chain stakeholders and regulatory bodies to maximize the benefit of integrating a drug traceability system into an ERP environment. Additionally, manufacturers are compelled to maintain product costs on the higher side due to a heavy burden of unchecked manufacturing cost spikes. As a result, innovative marketing schemes must be introduced in order to increase the reach to consumers by putting into practice successful strategies.

This study was conducted with beans to determine a protocol that will help reduce the cooking time of beans. It was carried out in the Foods laboratory at the University for Development Studies, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. A quasi-experimental design was the design tool employed for this study to establish a cause-and-effect relationship between an independent and dependent variable where the independent variable is cooking time and dependent variable is softness of the beans. An experiment was carried out to text the effect of 2 different treatments given to beans during cooking to ascertain which treatment is best for reducing the cooking time for bean. The treatments meted out were addition of blended onion, crushed cassava and no additives. Addition of blended onion had a very significant effect in reducing cooking time with cooking time of 43minutes. Cooking beans with crushed cassava also saw some reduction in the cooking time for beans with 46 minutes. Cooking dry beans with no additive having the highest cooking time (47minutes). With quantity of water, the dry beans sample with crushed cassava used more quantity of water (3.4 liters). Cooking with blended onion and with no treatment both used 2.9 litres per 100grams beans each. The study therefore recommends that crushed onions are added to help reduce the cooking time of dry beans.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate students’ awareness, understanding and use of the information on care labels. Quantitatively, the study adopted a cross-sectional survey design. The population of the study comprised all the Family and Consumer Science students at the University for Development Studies, Nyankpala campus, Tamale. Morgan and Krejcie chart, was used to select 159 out 270 students. Data collected were analysed using IBM SPSS with descriptive statistics which included mean, standard deviation, frequencies and percentages. Findings of this study proved that students do not always use the information on care labels when purchasing and caring for clothes and cannot identify the symbols on care labels that do not directly link with their meaning. This study has practical implications for students by using the information on care labels when purchasing and caring for clothes. Students should likewise find ways of identifying the symbols even without their meanings. The Social Implication implications of this study also postulates that local clothes manufacturers should be encouraged to create their labelling schemes for care labels that will be peculiar to how Ghanaians care for their clothes as they exist in other countries. Organizations and bodies that formulate the symbols should make sure the shape of the symbols has a direct link with their meaning to aid in their understanding and usage.

The questionnaire had both open ended and close ended questions was on the consumers’ knowledge and perceptions on food borne diseases and the safety of foods. Data gathered checked, edited, coded, processed and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17. The study concluded that the consumers of vended foods have some knowledge of food hygiene and food borne diseases; however, they ignore the health hazards associated with poor food handling by food vendors and go ahead to patronize the food the vendors provide. The study also indicated consumers patronized street foods because prices were moderate as compared to the formal establishments and ignore the unhygienic conditions at the vending sites. The correlation analysis shows further that consumers patronage (r=-0.095) had negative and non-significant relationship with food handling practices. It is recommended that Consumers of vended foods should be educated to help improve upon their knowledge in food hygiene and food borne diseases to enable them make informed choices and also prompt regulatory bodies such as the environmental health officers on unacceptable food handling practices of food vendors. It is also recommended The Metropolitan/Municipal/District environmental health officers should ensure that inspection of street food vendors are carried out effectively, efficiently and regularly so as to monitor the food handling practices of the food vendors’ right from the time of preparation to the point of sale.

Knowledge about the glycaemic load of a food is very important in minimizing the prevalence of diabetes and other Non-Communicable Diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the glycaemic load of the different varieties of fufu in the Wenchi municipality in Ghana. Quantitatively, the study adopted a crossover experimental research design. The research was carried out in Wenchi, the capital of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, in the Bono Region. Convenience and purposive sampling techniques were used to select ten (10) healthy adults for blood glucose tests in this study. Materials used for the study were Fresh cassava, plantain, yam, and cocoyam. Descriptive analysis was used in analysing and interpretation of the data. Values were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Statistical significance was set at p<0.05. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 20.0. Proximate analysis of the study concluded that, plantain fufu contained the least carbohydrate content among the three fufu mixtures. The study also revealed that all fufu combinations had a high glycaemic load and this is as a result of the large portion size of fufu that is eaten at a serving. The glycaemic load of fufu combinations showed no significant difference, however, looking at the actual values, there are differences in them which should not be overlooked. It is recommended that consumers of fufu can eat any of the three mixtures of fufu, but there will be the need to take a smaller portion size of the fufu since a larger size can have adverse effects on their blood glucose level. It is also recommended that in other for fufu to be digested well and glucose to be absorbed easily, especially yam fufu, consumers should make sure to eat fufu at least about five hours before going to bed. It is recommended that nutritionists, dieticians, and diet therapists can as well recommend yam fufu and cocoyam fufu for diabetics and prediabetics, to bring about varieties in their diet.

The tensile strength is an imperative properties and essential indications consumers’ look out for in purchasing a quality fabric. The objective of this study was to examine key soap on tensile strength in three washing cycles of selected Printex fabrics in Ghana. Quantitatively, the study adopted both experimental and factorial research designs. Materials for the study consisted of three fabrics with black prints and white as base colour were purchased from the market. These three fabrics had the same designs but two had different fabric finishes and the third one had no finish (plain, embossed and plisse). Six yards each of the Printex black and white fabrics with embossed, plisse and a third one which did not have any special fabric finish were used for the study. Key soap purchased from the Ghanaian market, and standard soap from Ghana Standard Authority was used for the study. Purposive and simple random techniques were used to select materials for the study. The main research instrument for the testing tensile strength was Universal tensile testing machine. Data were analysed with both descriptive and inferential statistics. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the hypothesis formulated to guide the study. The study revealed that continuous washing had degrading effects on the tensile strength. The implication is that continuous washing weakens the internal strengths of fabrics which cause them to fail or weakens their resistance to stress test. The study also found that continuous washing had degrading effects on the tensile strength of the selected fabrics. It is recommended that the Ghana Standards Authority should encourage soap producers to get their chemical compositions as close to those of the standardised soap as possible.

The Nigerian Government both previous and present has introduced several policies and programmes to reduce or proffer remedial measures to militate against the negative impact of high inflationary levels on the Nigerian economy. All these measures have not led to a productive result as the inflation rate has continued to sour higher over the years. This paper aimed at examining the economic influence of the determinant factors that influence inflationary trends that are multi-dimensional and dynamic which continue to defy solutions. The data used for this work was sourced from the National Bureau of Statistics and Central Bank of Nigeria, from 1983 to 2020. The ordinary least square approach was used to analyze the data and the result shows that consumer’s price index, interest rate and total export has a positive effect on Nigeria inflation, but only the Consumer’s Price Index (CPI) have a statistically significant effect on the Nigeria inflation at 99% confidence interval. Result also shows that the exchange rate, foreign reserve, money supply, real GDP, real income and total imports has a negative effect though not statistically significant on the Nigeria inflation rate. The result of the granger causality test shows exchange rate and total imports to granger cause Nigeria inflation. It is recommended that Government should improve locally manufacture products to meet international demands to reduce total imports.

This study concluded that street food vendors do have relevant knowledge of hygienic food handling practices through the training they receive, but the knowledge they acquire is not put into practice. The study also revealed that effective and regular inspections by Environmental Health officers will couple stringent enforcement of all regulations governing their practices to streamline the activities of the food vendors for better health of their consumers. It is recommended that the training and certification of food vendors should be organized on a regular basis and should be designed using the Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Point (HACCP). Environmental Health Officers must conduct follow-up exercises after training programmes to ascertain whether food vendors are putting knowledge they have acquired into practice. It is also recommended that, the Metropolitan/Municipal/District environmental health officers should ensure that inspection of street food vendors are carried out effectively, efficiently and regularly so as to monitor the food handling practices of the food vendors’ right from the time of preparation to the point of sale. This is to ensure that food served to consumers is safe for consumption. Vendors who do not put the knowledge they have acquired into practice should have their certificates retrieved and signed up for retraining.

The traditional electric grid of the City of Kumba has been experiencing a constant failure which leads inhabitant to experience constant blackout. This constant blackout persists and stays for a long time due to the lack of communication between equipment, consumer and supplier. Whenever there is a fault, the repairing agents walk along the feeder to find the fault. This manual fault finding increases the restauration time which leads to the augmentation of the blackout period. Factors responsible for the failure of the line are complex to be controlled. It is necessary to reduce restauration time by introducing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and sensing system in the grid and making it to be smart. ICT in this smart grid, sensors and smart meters are meant to assure two-way communication between the supplier and the consumer. They send real time information which is computed at the control center to optimize the entire grid. Distributed generation is also introduced in the system for two purposes. To complete the lag in power demand of the grid and to take over the supply when the main feeder is faulty. Various distributed generation sources studied led to the choice of solar power plants thanks to their low production of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and availability of their resources in the city. A model has been proposed for the distributed generation and optimization of the smart grid. The system indexes obtained without distributed generation in the grid are different from that with. The difference in these indexes proved that the grid has been optimized. However, the reliability of the grid is enhanced after the introduction of distributed generation into the system. This enhancement in reliability declares that with distributed generation into the grid, the population of Kumba has a reliable power supply, which makes them to have energy throughout.

Online shopping is a growing phenomenon and social media namely Facebook has radically changed consumers online purchase behaviour; especially the interactive information system of consumers, peers, and vendors. Similar to other online purchasing products or services, e-cigarette marketing in Facebook has potential. This study aims to determine the association between individual’s online interaction and e-cigarette purchase intention from Facebook vape groups. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 214 respondents using the Facebook platform from September to December 2019. Data were collected via a self-administered questionnaire. The Chi-square test was used for data analyses using SPSS (version 25.0). Most of the participants were male; the mean age of the respondents was 27.41 ± 2.1. Total 93.9% (201 of 214) and 56.1% (120 of 214) respondents were vaper and smoker respectively. Among the non-smokers, most of the respondents were vaper (84 of 94, 89.4%). Consumers smoking and vaping status were associated with each other (χ2 = 6.11, P=0.01). There was an association between vaping status and purchase intention of e-cigarettes from the Facebook vape group (χ2 = 5.06, P=0.02). Online interactions, namely like (χ2 = 5.88, P <0.01), post (χ2 = 7.16, P <0.01) and sharing (χ2 = 10.14, P <0.01) of the e-cigarette related information or advertisements in social media were associated with purchase intention of e-cigarettes from Facebook vape group. This study revealed individuals vaping and online interactions were associated with an online purchase the intention of e-cigarette in Facebook. Public health researchers and policymakers might contemplate the regulatory environment of online marketing of e-cigarettes to curtail the uptake of e-cigarettes among non-smokers.

The level of business competition in several online shopping sites for fashion products is currently experiencing quite crucial dynamics. Competitive match will indirectly affect consumer purchasing decisions. This research explores what factors are dominantly influencing the level of product purchase decisions on online shopping sites in terms of product variety, price, brand image and promotion aspects. This research design uses a quantitative research design. Determination of the sample in this study using the convenience sampling method with a total of 110 respondents. Data collection uses a questionnaire distributed online during the period from May to June 2021. This study concludes that product variations and brand image have a positive and significant influence on purchasing decisions. Then for the effect of price and promotion on purchasing decisions obtained a positive but not significant impact. This study confirms the importance of paying attention to aspects of pricing and product promotion strategies on the Reebonz online shopping site.

The average electricity consumption in Iranian households is higher than the world average. This can be due to price factors (such as cheap electricity in the country) and non-price factors (such as socio-demographic variables and psychological factors). In this study, non-price factors such as socio-demographic variables and psychological factors in the electricity consumption of urban households in Tehran were investigated. In this regard, using the theoretical foundations of behavioral economics and the psychology of planned behavior, this issue was analyzed. This study collected information on household electricity consumption behavior through a questionnaire and fieldwork from 2560 Tehran households. Results Using econometric techniques, linear regression was estimated, the dependent variable of which was electricity consumption (45 days in winter 2019) and its independent variables including socio-demographic variables (age, sex, number of household members, income) and The variables of the theory of planned behavior (attitude, mental norms and perceived behavioral control) showed that income and the number of household members have a significant and positive effect on electricity consumption, but gender has no significant effect. Of the psychological variables, only perceived behavioral control has a significant effect on electricity consumption. These results show that the consumer does not have a positive attitude towards saving, and mental and social norms do not encourage him to reduce electricity consumption, and they are not effective in consumption control. Finally, the study results were analyzed using behavioral biases that may cause attitudes and beliefs not to lead to action.

However, the increasing presence of counterfeit drugs within this supply chain poses a significant and growing risk to public health, patient safety, and the integrity of the pharmaceutical industry. Counterfeit drugs—medications that are fraudulently manufactured, mislabeled, or contain incorrect or harmful ingredients—are a major concern as they can lead to ineffective treatments, adverse health effects, and even death. Despite stringent regulatory frameworks and advanced technological solutions, counterfeit drugs continue to infiltrate legitimate supply chains due to factors such as the complexity of the distribution system, global trade practices, and inadequate enforcement in certain regions. This manuscript explores the primary causes behind the proliferation of counterfeit drugs in pharmaceutical distribution, the associated risks, and the multifaceted approaches required to address this growing threat. It discusses the importance of regulatory measures, including international cooperation and stronger compliance frameworks, as well as the role of emerging technologies like serialization, blockchain, and RFID in ensuring traceability and product authenticity. The current financial services sector is realising considerable changes in its operations due to development in technology and embracing of digital platforms. This evolution is changing the established concepts of business, consumers and channels of delivery of services. Financial services firms are changing the way they work through digital transformation due to developments in technology, changes in customer needs, and an increase in emphasis on sustainability. Understanding the opportunities, risks, and new trends in digital transformation is the focus of this paper. Opportunities include efficient real-time decision-making processes, increased transparency and better process controls, which are balanced by the threats of change management, dubious organization-technology fit, and high implementation costs. The study also examines recent advancements, including the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence, developments in mobile and online banking, integration of blockchain, and increasing focus on security and personalised banking. A literature review yields some findings from different studies on rural financial services, the evolution of the blockchain, drivers of digital transformation, cloud-based learning approaches, and emerging sustainability practices. All of these results suggest that more strategic planning, analytics, and more focus on ensuring that organisational objectives are met with transformations should be pursued. Hence, this research findings add to the existing literature in determining how innovative and digital technologies are likely to transform the financial services sector and advance sustainability.

To ensure maximum flexibility, service providers offer a variety of computing options with regard to CPU, memory capacity, and network bandwidth. At the same time, the efficient operation of current cloud applications requires an infrastructure that can adjust its configuration continuously across multiple dimensions, which are generally not statically predefined. Our research shows that these requirements are hardly met with today's typical public cloud and management approaches. To provide such a highly dynamic and flexible execution environment, we propose the application-driven autonomic management of data center resources as the core vision for the development of a future cloud infrastructure. As part of this vision and the required gradual progress toward it, we present the concept of composable infrastructure and its impact on resource allocation for multi-cloud environments. We introduce relevant techniques for optimizing resource allocation strategies and indicate future research opportunities [1]. Many cloud service providers offer computing instances that can be configured with arbitrary capacity, depending on the availability of certain hardware resources. This level of configurability provides customers with the desired flexibility for executing their applications. Because of the large number of such prerequisite instances with often varying characteristics, service consumers must invest considerable effort to set up or reconfigure elaborate resource provisioning systems. Most importantly, they must differentiate the loads to be distributed between jobs that need to be executed versus placeholder jobs, i.e., jobs that trigger the automatic elasticity functionality responsible for resource allocator reconfiguration. Operations research reveals that the optimization of resource allocator reconfiguration strategies is a fundamentally difficult problem due to its NP-hardness. Despite these challenges, dynamic resource allocation in multi-clouds is becoming increasingly important since modern Internet-based service settings are dispersed across multiple providers [2].

Innovations in computing and communication technologies are reshaping finance. The seismic changes are casting uncertainty about the future of financial services. On one hand, fintech evangelists project a rosy future, asserting that the fast-moving algorithms can deliver low-cost financial services intuitively, customized to meet robust consumer expectations. On the other hand, many finance veterans fret that the traditional banking model could disintermediate, bleeding banks via a ‘death by a thousand cuts’, reducing them to passive portfolio holders with no direct customer relationship, eclipsed by digital giants which use their enormous treasure troves of customer data to offer banking as an added service with nearly free cost. Amidst the upbeat technological promises and apocalyptic forebodings, there are two constant, mostly agreed-upon, truths. The first is the vital importance of data. Advances in the internet, cloud computing, and record-keeping technologies are producing an ‘exponential growth in the volume and detail of data’. Some of this big data are personal information. Smartphones are deployed in almost all developed and emerging economies, serving as little spies; tracking, recording location histories, social networks, and app usage of their unsuspecting owners; often with a great degree of precision. ‘People are walking data-factories’ in this ‘mobile digital society’. Data are the fermentation of these global exchanges, electronic commerce and communication, and financial transactions. To just take Facebook as an example, it shares 30 million people a day through updates and posts, hosting personal information on 2.23 billion users. To the alarm of the uninformed public, much of this information is available for commercial harvest. The second constant is the rise of intelligent solutions. Consumers today—be it disclosed or not—are fed tailored clothes, music, film, holiday packages—almost anything you like, notably dynamic pricing, varying in accordance with individual profiles, or personalized search results. The availability of powerful computers has enabled comparable applications that are intended to make the system more responsive to their customer profiles and desires, or to capitalize competitive business possibilities. Such changes will transform the financial industry and occupy a prominent position among the mechanisms of policy competition, reshaping the way in which financial services are bestowed and led on the demand side.

There is an essential need to develop an effective and powerful multifunctional machine learning platform to enable healthcare professionals to comprehend challenging biomedical multifactorial datasets to understand patient-specific scenarios and to make better clinical decisions, potentially leading to the optimist patient outcomes. There is a substantial drive to develop the networking and interoperability of clinical systems, the laboratory, and public health. These steps are delivered in concert with efforts at enabling usefully analytic tools and technologies for making sense of the eruption of overall patient’s information from various sources. However, the full efficiency of this technology can only be eliminated when ethical, legal, and social challenges related to reducing the privacy of healthcare information are successfully absorbed. Public and media are to be informed about the capabilities and limitations of the technologies and the paramount to be balanced is juvenile public healthcare data privacy debate. While this is ongoing, the measures have been progressed from patient data protection abuses for progress to realize the full potential of AI technology for hosting the health system, with benefits for all stakeholders. Any protection program should be based on fairness, transparency, and a full commitment to data privacy. On-going innovative systems that use AI to manage clinical data and analyzes are proposed. These tools can be used by healthcare providers, especially in defining specific scenarios related to biomedical data management and analysis. These platforms ensure that the significant and potentially predictive parameters associated with the diagnosis, treatment, and progression of the disease have been recognized. With the systematic use of these solutions, this work can contribute to the realization of noticeable improvements in the provision of real-time, personalized, and efficient medicine at a reduced cost [1].

Numerous expert investigations conducted in the arena of high-technology litigation have reinforced both the pressing need and the immense value of enforced compliance in today's fast-paced digital landscape. Open banking APIs have boldly pioneered this critical regulatory enforcement role, allowing broader access and improved services for consumers. Predictive AI certainty, facilitated through sophisticated validation systems, represented a fundamental evolution in their rule-based legal formulations that govern many aspects of financial transactions. These advanced products were deployed within global legislative codes, allowing for standardized practices, and consequently, all market sectors quickly adopted them to ensure they remain competitive and compliant. This study aims to achieve a new understanding of how, why, and when consumer behavior is shaped, enacted, and experienced inside and across integrated digital ecosystems related to large-scale trackable goods, all in service of helping marketers optimize their business performance in the new economy. The pioneering understanding begins by exploring what motivates the choices of a homogeneous group of consumers to organize their consumption of national and store brand varieties of consumer package goods in a certain manner. Thereafter, the essay explores how, if at all, the other digital activities of consumers across various product-related digital spaces and on various platforms build expertise and interest in these products such that they exert an effect on the purchase choices for these products. The essay then advances to asking how online information seeking, in various product-related digital spaces, on various platforms, and from various sources, and taking place at various points in the purchase journey affects online-offline dynamics in purchasing these products. Thereafter, the research examines how paid digital communication in various product-related digital spheres and forms, enabled by consumer advertising engagement on various platforms, boosts the offline sales of these products. Finally, by employing a new methodology that combines consumer scanning data, self-reported online activity data, and transaction data collected from an ad-tech partner, the research presents a fresh set of marketing action levers and performance outcomes on chosen products. Along the way, progress is made on four under-investigated topics in the advertising literature – the role of consumer actors and their expertise in the online-offline purchasing dynamics for ads, advertising engagement, consumer digital spaces, and consumer digital activity investment.

Building Foundational Data Products for Financial Services: A MDM-Based Approach to Customer, and Product Data Integration

Imagine a consumer financial services company with 20 million customers. Its sales and marketing organizations collaborate across product lines, deploying hundreds of marketing campaigns each quarter that aim to increase customer product usage and/or cross-buying of products. Each campaign is based on forecasts of customer responses derived from predictive models updated every quarter. The goals of these models are to achieve large return on investment ratios and to maximize contribution to local profit centers. What’s important is that their modeling is based only on data created, curated and maintained by these marketing organizations. The difference today is that the modeling is no longer based solely on a small number of response-determined variables that are constantly assessed in terms of importance. A quarterly campaign update generates hundreds of statistical models — involving campaign responses, purchase-lag time, the relative magnitude of the direct effect, and the cross-buying effects — using thousands of variables, including customer demographics, life stage, product transactions, household composition, and customer service history. It’s a network of models, not just a table of variable-by-residual importance values. But that’s only part of the story of data products. The predictive modeling utilized by these campaign plans is based on analytics and data preparation, which are data products in their most diminutive form. These products would be even more elementary were they not crafted quarterly by highly skilled, experienced modelers using advanced software and processes. Most companies have enough data to create models that contain not simply hundreds of variables, but thousands, so that the focus can return to information instead of data reduction. These models largely replace the internal econometric models previously used to produce advanced forecasts in the absence of campaign modeling. People used these forecasts to simulate ROI and contribution forecasts for the planned campaigns. In the old days, reliance on econometrically forecast ROI-guideline contribution values reduced the reliance on the marketing campaign modelers because of a lack of trust in their predictive ability.

The supply chain ecosystem plays a very important role in the success or failure of organizations, markets, and economies. Supply chain ecosystems are broadly defined as supply chain organizations and their collaborators. Today's combined challenges of pandemic shutdowns, rising internet usage, and skyrocketing climate change concerns demand that the supply chain ecosystem better connect with customers, when and how they want, to provide products and services with high levels of availability and zero defects, yet collaboratively do this to reduce transportation and production risks, often at the same time reducing operational costs and carbon footprints. Addressing these challenges, this work explores the cloud delivery capabilities of cloud-native architectures to enable the big data integrations and analytics that are needed to grow smarter supply chain ecosystems. This work describes what smart supply chain ecosystems are and how they are planning to grow their technology and integration capabilities. Discussing the industry-leading advanced and manufacturing technology producer ecosystems, it is explained how their technology collaboration and investment plans are driven by climate change and job creation goals. With these background models, the work examines the new digital reality of customer-driven experiences and economies that are demanding cloud-native and intelligent technology partnerships to deliver climate objectives, operational responsiveness, and compatibility to avoid trading economies of scale for economies of integration. The final objectives of this paper are to share key ideas about the need to balance the growing customer service direct-to-consumer business models with those for collaborative investment by market and industry. In doing this, it hopes to promote an intelligent supply chain ecosystem foundation for helping its different participating countries survive and thrive in the digital economy.
