Predictive Modeling of Public Sentiment Using Social Media Data and Natural Language Processing Techniques

Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) generate vast volumes of user-generated content that provide real-time insights into public sentiment. Despite the widespread use of traditional machine learning methods, their limitations in capturing contextual nuances in noisy social media text remain a challenge. This study leverages the Sentiment140 dataset, comprising 1.6 million labeled tweets, and develops predictive models for binary sentiment classification using Naive Bayes, Logistic Regression, and the transformer-based BERT model. Experiments were conducted on a balanced subset of 12,000 tweets after comprehensive NLP preprocessing. Evaluation using accuracy, F1-score, and confusion matrices revealed that BERT significantly outperforms traditional models, achieving an accuracy of 89.5% and an F1-score of 0.89 by effectively modeling contextual and semantic nuances. In contrast, Naive Bayes and Logistic Regression demonstrated reasonable but consistently lower performance. To support practical deployment, we introduce SentiFeel, an interactive tool enabling real-time sentiment analysis. While resource constraints limited the dataset size and training epochs, future work will explore full corpus utilization and the inclusion of neutral sentiment classes. These findings underscore the potential of transformer models for enhanced public opinion monitoring, marketing analytics, and policy forecasting.

A man in his 60s with multiple vascular comorbidities presented with sudden, painless vision loss in one eye. Although he had a high risk for atherosclerotic events, initial evaluation for stroke was negative for acute ischemia, but found to have markedly elevated inflammatory markers. Accordingly, giant cell arteritis was investigated and Ophthalmologic findings and fulfillment of the 2022 American College of Rheumatology/European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology classification criteria supported the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis, despite a negative temporal artery biopsy. Management included high-dose glucocorticoids and delayed tocilizumab initiation due to the need for multiple vascular surgeries. Vision loss was irreversible, but systemic symptoms resolved and vascular interventions were successful. This case highlights the diagnostic and management complexities of biopsy-negative giant cell arteritis in patients with severe atherosclerotic vascular disease, emphasizing the importance of clinical judgment and established classification criteria when imaging and biopsy results are inconclusive.

Food security, dietary diversity, and age as determinants of nutritional status among adolescent girls in coastal Bangladesh

Background: Adolescent girls living in disaster-prone coastal regions of Bangladesh face heightened nutritional vulnerability due to limited food access, poor dietary diversity, and environmental stressors. Despite growing concerns about adolescent malnutrition, few studies have examined the combined influence of food security, dietary diversity, and age on nutritional outcomes in these settings. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the association between dietary diversity, food security, and age with the nutritional status of adolescent girls in coastal Bangladesh. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 345 adolescent girls aged 10–19 in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar. Data on dietary intake were collected using a 24-hour dietary recall and a food frequency questionnaire. Household food security was assessed using a validated scale. Nutritional status was determined using BMI-for-age classifications. Bivariate and multivariate analyses explored associations between dietary diversity, food security, age, and nutritional status. Results: Among participants, 10.14% were underweight, and 29.85% were either overweight or obese. While 17.39% demonstrated high dietary diversity (≥7 food groups), the majority had moderate diversity (5 or 6 food groups) (59.42%). Food-insecure households were significantly more likely to have overweight or obese adolescents (p < 0.05). Although dietary diversity was associated with BMI in bivariate analysis, it was not a significant predictor in the multivariate model. Age showed a significant relationship with both dietary diversity and nutritional status. Conclusion: The findings emphasize the importance of addressing household food security and age-related nutritional vulnerabilities in coastal areas. Interventions should prioritize age-sensitive, culturally appropriate strategies to improve dietary quality and prevent the double burden of malnutrition among adolescent girls.

Geochemistry distributions and statistics analysis of REE in stream sediments from the watershed west of Mambaka (Adamawa Plateau, Cameroun)

The Mambaka watershed is extends between latitudes 1 3°45'E and 14°15'E and longitudes 7°16'N and 6°45'N. The geology, various tectonic and structural events that have affected the Adamawa Plateau in Cameroon make it rich in multi-substance mining. The objective of this study is to map rare earth (REE) geochemical anomalies in the sediments of the watershed streams west of Mambaka, and to trace their origins and geochemical processes. Predictive maps from inverse distance interpolations (IDW), factor analysis (F1) or principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical bottom-up classification maps provided a better understanding of the central tendency, distribution and dispersion of REE in the samples and in the study area, based on standard deviation and variance values that generated two factors F1 (Ho-Tm-Er-Yb-Lu-Dy-Tb-Gd-Eu-Sm) and F2 (Pr-Nd-Ce-La-Sm) representing 92.44% of the total cumulative variance. The ratios Ce/Ce* > 0.78 and Eu/Eu* > 1 demonstrate positive anomalies in Ce and Eu, and clear differentiation. The normalized concentrations used to calculate fractionation ratios show that the values for LaN/YbN (0.58 to 1.34), LaN/SmN (0.61 to 0.88) and LaN/LuN (0.62 to 1.43) suggest higher fractionation in SS09 and lower fractionation in SS01. Similarly, the ratios La/Lu (61.71 to 143.46), La/Yb (9.00 to 20.72), La/Sm (4.02 to 5.83) and La/ Lu (61.71 to 143.46) confirm these higher ratios in SS09 and lower in SS01. The REE in the study area comes from hydrothermal processes based on high lineament densities at sampling points in igneous rocks with a mean ∑REE value of between 174-219 ppm.

With an increasing diversity of learners in today’s educational set-ups, there is an insurmountable need to cater for individual differences including the cultural variations among learners. It is therefore necessary for educators to develop culturally responsive teaching that enhances intercultural competencies of learners. As educators strive to provide inclusive learning environments in which learners from diverse cultural backgrounds learn equitably, differentiated instruction becomes a practical tool. This paper explores how differentiated instruction can support and enhance culturally responsive teaching by examining how tailored instructional approaches can bridge cultural gaps and enhance educational outcomes. The aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how educators can effectively integrate differentiated instructional methodologies to achieve the goals of Culturally Responsive Teaching. The study used a descriptive survey design to determine the use of differentiated instruction by junior school teachers in Kenya and a systematic review of literature, practical examples, and studies on teachers’ practices in culturally responsive teaching. The study outcomes indicated that teachers used various differentiated instructional strategies with flexible grouping being the most commonly used strategy. However, there arises a concern, that teachers were not very familiar with cultural variations of learners in their classrooms even as they developed their differentiated instructional strategies. Literature provided the principles and practices of culturally responsive teaching. The combination of these results were used to formulate a conceptual framework for Culturally Responsive Differentiated Instruction (CRDI) that provides insights for practitioners to develop and implement culturally responsive differentiated instructional strategies. The study recommends that a framework to support teachers in the implementation of inclusive and equitable curriculum through CRDI be developed, CRDI be integrated into the teaching processes and the teachers be trained on providing for learner differences through CRDI.

LiDAR, known for its high-resolution 3D data capture capabilities, paired with AI, particularly deep learning algorithms, facilitates advanced analysis and interpretation of urban areas. This combination supports precise mapping, real-time monitoring, and predictive modeling of urban growth and infrastructure. For instance, AI can process LiDAR data to identify patterns and anomalies, aiding in traffic management, environmental oversight, and infrastructure maintenance. These advancements not only improve urban living conditions but also contribute to sustainable development by optimizing resource use and reducing environmental impacts. Furthermore, AI-enhanced LiDAR is pivotal in advancing autonomous navigation and sophisticated spatial analysis, marking a significant step forward in urban management and evaluation. The reviewed paper highlights the geometric properties of LiDAR data, derived from spatial point positioning, and underscores the effectiveness of machine learning algorithms in object extraction from point clouds. The study also covers concepts related to LiDAR imaging, feature selection methods, and the identification of outliers in LiDAR point clouds. Findings demonstrate that AI algorithms, especially deep learning models, excel in analyzing high-resolution 3D LiDAR data for accurate urban feature identification and classification. These models leverage extensive datasets to detect patterns and anomalies, improving the detection of buildings, roads, vegetation, and other elements. Automating feature extraction with AI minimizes the need for manual analysis, thereby enhancing urban planning and management efficiency. Additionally, AI methods continually improve with more data, leading to increasingly precise feature detection. The results indicate that the pulse emitted by continuous wave LiDAR sensors changes when encountering obstacles, causing discrepancies in measured physical parameters.

This paper examines the impact of primary level classroom environments on the acquisition of English as a second language (L2) in Bangladesh, comparing English-medium and Bangla-medium schools. The study investigates how different instructional approaches and early exposure to English influence language proficiency among students. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and proficiency tests, the research reveals significant differences in language acquisition outcomes between the two educational settings. Findings indicate that students in English-medium schools, who are exposed to Natural approach methods of language learning and immersive English-speaking environments, demonstrate higher proficiency in speaking and listening skills compared to their Bangla-medium counterparts, who primarily receive grammar-focused instruction. The study highlights the critical role of early exposure to English, with students who begin learning the language at a younger age showing better phonological and syntactic development. Additionally, the integration of technology in language teaching emerges as a valuable tool for enhancing language learning, particularly in contexts with limited classroom exposure. The research suggests that Bangla-medium schools could benefit from adopting more interactive, student-centered teaching methods and integrating digital tools to support practical language use. The study's findings have significant implications for educational policy, advocating for a shift towards more immersive and communicative teaching practices to improve English language acquisition in Bangladesh. This research contributes to the broader understanding of SLA and offers practical recommendations for enhancing language education in similar contexts.

Intestinal malrotation is an embryological abnormality modifying the classic anatomy of the small and large bowels, particularly the topographical one. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterised by anatomical lesions with preferential intestinal tropism. These two conditions are rarely associated. They represent a real diagnostic and therapeutic challenge due to the overlap of non-specific symptoms and the complexity of the clinical management. We report the case of a young woman presenting with a flare-up of her IBD and a partial common mesentery syndrome. Clinicians should be aware of the potential pitfalls of the two entities to propose the adequate therapeutic strategy regarding the full understanding of the anatomy, notably when surgery is needed.

This paper investigates the constructability of angles multiples of 3 within the framework of Euclidean geometry. It makes a significant contribution by presenting the first geometric construction for all such angles, offering a rigorous solution to a longstanding geometric problem. The paper reaffirms the efficacy of Euclidean geometry in providing precise constructions and robust proofs for these angles, demonstrating the enduring strength of Euclidean principles from classical to modern times. The presented workflow goes beyond Euclidean geometry to examine non-Euclidean methods, particularly analytical approaches, revealing misconceptions that compromise the genetic and geometric rigor of Euclidean principles. The paper exposes incongruities when algebraic proofs related to angle constructability are applied to the Euclidean system, emphasizing the misalignment of fundamental geometric concepts. A notable result in the paper is the construction of a angle, introducing the “ angle chord” as a novel geometric property. This property challenges assumptions made by non-Euclidean methods and highlights the nuanced geometric properties crucial for rigorous constructions. Threatened Wildlife for an Instructional Approach about Biodiversity Conservation

Abstract Biodiversity is related to a global problem: its destruction, a fact supported by scientific authorities. It is not trivial that educational dimension has been contemplated as one of the strategies for its conservation. Since 1992 global initiatives such as the Convention on Biological Diversity postulates concepts that linked education and nature conservation. The main objective of this research work is to test the level of assimilation of extracurricular scientific knowledge by primary school pupils. The method chosen for the content was, on the one hand, a master class intervention with an interactive presentation on a digital whiteboard. Third cases were chosen. Each case consisted of a presentation of the current status of a species of fauna present in Spain. On the second part, students were asked to write an essay and to illustrate the experience during the presentation. Regarding the essays, students showed that they were more attracted to the first species that was presented (Iberian lynx) in a proportion of over 45% of cases. The “Endangered species” concept appeared in more than 77% of the texts reviewed. Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a significant psychiatric condition, with many affected individuals not gaining remission from conventional treatments, leading to classification as treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This study aimed to investigate the potential of intravenous (IV) ketamine, particularly the S-enantiomer esketamine in nasal spray form, for treating patients with TRD and associated comorbidities. We report three cases of patients with diverse psychiatric and medical backgrounds whom all reported significant symptomatic relief from depressive episodes and suicidal ideation (SI) following esketamine administration. Additionally, esketamine seemed to proffer benefits beyond the primary depressive symptoms, positively impacting other comorbid conditions, such as agitation, self-injurious behavior (SIB), and chronic pain. The goal of this paper is to highlight that while esketamine's primary utility is in addressing TRD, its therapeutic potential may extend to a variety of associated conditions. However, it is crucial to underscore the heterogeneity of MDD, emphasizing the necessity for individualized therapeutic approaches and further research into esketamine's broader applications.

With the rapid growth of online communication platforms, the identification and management of toxic comments have become crucial in maintaining a healthy online environment. Various machine learning approaches have been employed to tackle this problem, ranging from traditional models to more recent attention-based transformer networks. This paper aims to compare the performance of attention-based transformer networks with several traditional machine learning methods for toxic comments classification. We present an in-depth analysis and evaluation of these methods using a common benchmark dataset. The experimental results demonstrate the strengths and limitations of each approach, shedding light on the suitability and efficacy of attention-based transformers in this domain.

The Efficiency of the Proposed Smoothing Method over the Classical Cubic Smoothing Spline Regression Model with Autocorrelated Residual

Spline smoothing is a technique used to filter out noise in time series observations when predicting nonparametric regression models. Its performance depends on the choice of the smoothing parameter. Most of the existing smoothing methods applied to time series data tend to over fit in the presence of autocorrelated errors. This study aims to determine the optimum performance value, goodness of fit and model overfitting properties of the proposed Smoothing Method (PSM), Generalized Maximum Likelihood (GML), Generalized Cross-Validation (GCV), and Unbiased Risk (UBR) smoothing parameter selection methods. A Monte Carlo experiment of 1,000 trials was carried out at three different sample sizes (20, 60, and 100) and three levels of autocorrelation (0.2, 05, and 0.8). The four smoothing methods' performances were estimated and compared using the Predictive Mean Squared Error (PMSE) criterion. The findings of the study revealed that: for a time series observation with autocorrelated errors, provides the best-fit smoothing method for the model, the PSM does not over-fit data at all the autocorrelation levels considered ( the optimum value of the PSM was at the weighted value of 0.04 when there is autocorrelation in the error term, PSM performed better than the GCV, GML, and UBR smoothing methods were considered at all-time series sizes (T = 20, 60 and 100). For the real-life data employed in the study, PSM proved to be the most efficient among the GCV, GML, PSM, and UBR smoothing methods compared. The study concluded that the PSM method provides the best fit as a smoothing method, works well at autocorrelation levels (ρ=0.2, 0.5, and 0.8), and does not over fit time-series observations. The study recommended that the proposed smoothing is appropriate for time series observations with autocorrelation in the error term and econometrics real-life data. This study can be applied to; non – parametric regression, non – parametric forecasting, spatial, survival, and econometrics observations.

The paper considers a specific type of such financial instrument as an option, namely an exotic barrier call option of the European type. Exotic options are gaining popularity among ordinary investors due to the development of information and telecommunication technologies, thanks to which such specific financial instruments as options have become readily available. We investigate the hedging problem for such options with some restrictions on the payment function and the availability of dividend payment on a risky asset in the classical Black-Scholes model. An analogue of the Black-Scholes formula for the mentioned variant of the exotic barrier is proved. In the future, it is planned to generalize the obtained results for put options and for more general payment functions.

Poor irrigation water quality due to oil spillage on surface water can result in food insecurity, health and economic challenges. This paper investigated the effect of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPHC) and lead (Pb) on irrigation water quality in the oil spill prone area of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Water samples were taken from five different sections labelled A, B, C, D, and E along the Choba River, in Rivers State, Nigeria. Sections B, C, D and E were direct industrial effluent discharge points while section A was without direct industrial effluent discharge. Standard methods were employed in the water sampling and analysis. Suitability of Choba river water for irrigation was assessed by comprehensive pollution index (CPI) that incorporated salinity, sodicity, and permeability hazard potentials as well as the specific toxicity hazard potentials of TPHC and Pb. Results showed that all primary water parameters except pH were within the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) guidelines. The pH was low, ranging between 4.48 and 5.6. TPHC values for four out of the five samples were greater than the 10mg/l guideline as recommended by the Directorate of Petroleum Resources for surface water. TPHC for the four samples ranged between 14.52 and 174.32mg/l. The parameters with the most impact on CPI include EC, PI and TPHC with TPHC having the most impact. Water samples from sections A, B and E with CPI values 0.14, 0.37, and 0.8 respectively were classified in the clean, sub clean and slightly polluted categories respectively, while water samples from sections C and D with CPI values greater than 1 range from moderately to heavily polluted and not suitable for agricultural irrigation. Only water sample A was found suitable for irrigation.

Student engagement in educational activities is essential for achieving desired learning outcomes. Despite this, little is known about the engagement patterns of nursing students from diverse or disadvantaged backgrounds. A mixed method study was conducted to explore engagement patterns within and outside the classroom but not during clinical placements. Students were asked what engagement means to them and what influences their engagement. Students were also asked how many hours they engaged in each of their undergraduate subjects and the reasons for this. The study was conducted at an Australian education provider. All students (n = 240) enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing course were invited to participate. Lecture attendance was high at the start of the semester, fluctuated weekly and declined as the semester progressed. Students averaged between 3.5 and 4.4 hours of engagement per subject per week. They defined engagement as actually coming to class and a commitment to learning. Students were engaged by new, interesting content and disengaged by repetitive or complex content and poor tutoring. Most students want to engage but are distracted by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Research should explore how to best assess students without the concurrent academic workload interfering with their studies.

Studies have highlighted the benefits of frequent quizzing in class. Frequent quizzing can promote more student attendance, engagement, practice and review, and achievement. Conversely, the opponents of frequent quizzing suggest that too frequent testing might hinder learning by frustrating anxious students and inhibiting larger units of instructional material. Notably, most studies have used degree examinations to evaluate the impact of quizzes on student learning and performance, yet little is known about whether quizzes can reinforce student performance in the in-course assessments (ICAs) despite ICA importance in student learning. The present study aimed to test the hypothesis that administration of weekly MCQ quizzes can enhance the leaning outcomes and performance of biomedical science students in assessment methods such as essay and oral presentation that can directly measure and provide information about student learning. It was therefore limited to in-course assessments. We found that the performance of the weekly quiz student group is remarkably better than that of the control student group in both the essay and oral presentation ICAs, which are two measures and indicators of student learning, suggesting improved student learning outcomes and performance after administrating weekly MCQ quizzes that also promoted student attendance in classrooms. The findings of this research study have implications for students, teachers, and curriculum designers in higher education.

In this paper we present a new classes of solutions for the Einstein-Maxwell system of field equations in a spherically symmetric spacetime under the influence of an electric field considering the MIT bag model equation of state with a particular form the metric potential that depends on an adjustable parameter. The obtained solutions can be written in terms of elementary functions, namely polynomials and algebraic functions. The obtained models satisfy all physical properties expected in a realistic star. The results of this research can be useful in the development and description of new models of compact structures.

Endemic Hemicryptophyte Grasslands of the High Mountains of the Caribbean

Abstract Although there are numerous studies on the floristic composition of the Andean and Caribbean grasslands, there are limited information from a phytosociological point of view. This work therefore aims to highlight the differences in this important vegetation type in these two biodiversity hotspots to gain a better understanding of their floristic and vegetational richness. The floristic composition of Andean grasslands (Ecuador) and the island of Hispaniola is also studied. The reason for this comparative analysis of Andean and Caribbean territories is their tropical character and their bioclimatic similarities. The comparative analysis of Peruvian Andean and Colombian grasslands is based on floristic knowledge from the literature, our inventories on the island of Hispaniola, and the works of Peguero. We applied the phytosociological methodology of Braun-Blanquet and the code of phytosociological nomenclature. We performed a statistical analysis to verify the differences between both community types using the statistical packages PAST© and CAP3. The comparative analysis of Andean and Caribbean grasslands shows a clear floristic and biogeographical differentiation and reveals that the only ecological character they share is their high-mountain attribute. In the Caribbean these communities are found only on the island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic) in the Central biogeographic sector, Central subprovince, Hispaniola province. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are important class of persist organic pollutants that were used as a component of paints especially in printings, as plastificator of plastics and insulating materials in transformers and capacitors, heat transfer fluids, additives in hydraulic fluids in vacuum and turbine pumps. There is always a need to establish reliable procedures for predicting the bioconcentration potential of chemicals from the knowledge of their molecular structure, or from readily measurable properties of the substance. Hence, correlation and prediction of biococentration factors (BCFs) based on λmax and vibration frequencies of various bonds viz υ(C-H) and υ(C=C) of biphenyl and its fifty-seven derivatives have been made. For the study, the molecular modeling and geometry optimization of the PCBs have been performed on workspace program of CAChe Pro 5.04 software of Fujitsu using DFT method. UV-visible spectra for each compound were created by electron transition between molecular orbitals as electromagnetic radiation in the visible and ultraviolet (UV-visible) region is absorbed by the molecule. The energies of excited electronic states were computed quantum mechanically. IR spectra of transitions for each compound were created by coordinated motions of the atoms as electromagnetic radiation in the infrared region is absorbed by the molecule. The force necessary to distort the molecule was computed quantum mechanically from its equilibrium geometry and thus frequency of vibrational transitions was predicted. Project Leader Program associated with CAChe has been used for multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis using above spectroscopic data as independent variables and BCFs of PCBs as dependent variables. The reliability of correlation and predicting ability of the MLR equations (models) are judged by R2, R2adj, se, q2L10O and F values. This study reflected clearly that UV and IR spectroscopic data can be used to predict BCFs of a large number of related compounds within limited time without any difficulty.

The article considers the problems of theoretical substantiation of negative informational and psychological impact evaluation principles, and conducting of relevant researches in this field. At the same time, due to imperfections of theory and practice of negative informational and psychological impact evaluation, previous researches were conducted mainly by “mirroring” the ways of information counteraction, both for our own measures of information and psychological influence, and for the adversary. The rationale for the methodological approaches used in the organization of information and psychological influence is due to inability to access the adversary's target audiences freely and gather the necessary information, as well as the inadequacy of assessing the degree of change in their behaviour. Characteristics mentioned in article classify target audiences according to defined indicators of remote information control of social and individual behaviour of possible objects of influence. Using the formulated conditions and relying on the psychological and psychophysiological characteristics of individuals, a database of target audience behaviour vulnerabilities is forming, that reflects the dependence of indicators of social behaviour perception changes on the intensity of external negative informational and psychological influences. The algorithm of target audience’s information perception is developed based on the model of planned behaviour, in which the subject’s overestimation of small values of probabilities are compared in dynamic with decrease of big ones. The proposed algorithm of evaluation of information-psychological impact allows to receive initial data based on which the model of target audience behaviour will be designed in any environmental conditions.

Management of Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorders: A Prospective Single-Centre Experience of 236 Cases in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2018–2024)

Objective: To evaluate maternal and neonatal outcomes of women with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders managed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team at a tertiary referral centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methods: We conducted a prospective case series of all women with antenatally suspected and intraoperatively or histopathologically confirmed PAS managed at King Fahad Medical City between April 2018 and December 2024. Women with high suspicion of PAS were electively admitted at 31+6 weeks’ gestation for optimisation when feasible and delivered by midline laparotomy and fundal or classical caesarean incision with the placenta left in situ. Definitive management consisted of hand-assisted retrograde caesarean hysterectomy or segmental uterine resection with reconstruction. Outcomes included operative time, quantified blood loss, transfusion requirements, intra- and postoperative complications, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, hospital stay, and neonatal morbidity. Results: A total of 236 women with confirmed PAS were managed. Median maternal age was 36 years and placenta previa coexisted in 86.9%. Elective caesarean delivery at 34+0–35+6 weeks occurred in 72.0%, whereas 28.0% required emergency delivery for haemorrhage or labour. Caesarean hysterectomy was performed in 85.2% and conservative segmental uterine resection in 14.8%. Median operative time was 135 minutes and median blood loss 4.3 L; the median transfusion requirement was six units of packed red blood cells. Intraoperative complications occurred in 27.1%, most commonly bladder injury (14.8%). One woman (0.4%) died intraoperatively from disseminated intravascular coagulation with intracardiac thrombosis. ICU admission was required in 66.0%. Neonatal intensive care unit admission occurred in 53.0%, mainly because of prematurity; there were no neonatal deaths. Conclusion: Centralised multidisciplinary management of PAS with planned delivery at 34–35 weeks, avoidance of placental removal, and use of retrograde hysterectomy or segmental resection can minimise haemorrhage and maternal mortality while maintaining acceptable neonatal outcomes in a high-volume referral centre.

Introduction: Stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, with ischemic stroke accounting for most cases. Structural vascular factors such as carotid artery tortuosity have gained attention as potential markers of vascular aging and cerebrovascular risk. The carotid tortuosity index (CTI), defined as the ratio of actual vessel length to the straight-line distance between two fixed points, provides a quantitative measure of arterial curvature. A CTI value of ≥1.2 indicates pathological tortuosity. Although noninvasive modalities such as CTA and MRA are frequently used, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) remains the gold standard for evaluating vessel geometry due to its higher spatial precision. This study aimed to determine the association of age, sex, and hypertension with CTI measured by DSA. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from November to December 2025 at the Neurointervention Clinic, RS Pelni Jakarta, Indonesia, involving 61 adult patients who underwent carotid DSA. CTI was measured bilaterally using digital imaging software and classified as <1.2 (non-tortuous) or ≥1.2 (tortuous). Clinical data, including age, sex, and hypertension status, were collected from medical records and analyzed using bivariate tests. Results: Older age (≥65 years), female sex, and hypertension were significantly associated with higher CTI values on both carotid sides. Tortuosity was more common among hypertensive patients and elderly females, indicating the influence of vascular remodeling and chronic hemodynamic stress. Conclusion: Carotid tortuosity increases with age, hypertension, and female sex. DSA-based CTI measurement provides a reliable and precise approach for evaluating vascular changes associated with cerebrovascular risk.

This study investigated the pedagogical implications of out-of-field teaching in Social Studies. The Out-of-field Social Studies teachers could encounter several challenges in their preparation and the implementation of the integrated Social Studies curriculum. This study sought the lived experiences of the out-of-field teachers concerning the causes of out-of-field teaching in social studies, problems encountered by the out-of-field teachers and the mechanisms they employ to cope with the teaching of Social Studies. The study chose the qualitative phenomenological research design. Data were collected from all the 17 out-of-field Social Studies teachers through in-depth structured interview. Data were transcribed and analysed, through the inductive thematic analysis approach, unveiling of themes and concepts from the narratives of the research participants. The study revealed that out-of-field teaching in Social Studies occurs as a result of teacher shortage in integrated social studies programme. It is also caused by the perception that any teacher could teach Social Studies irrespective of the teachers’ qualification. Out-of-field teacher encounter problems such as inadequate content and pedagogical knowledge, lack of classroom managerial techniques and inability to deliver lessons through the integrated approach. Engaging in professional development courses, peer coaching, in-service training and workshops were some of the mechanisms employed by out-of-field teachers to cope with the teaching of Social Studies. The pedagogical implications of this phenomenon are that when teaching the Social Studies, the out-of-field teachers place more emphasis on aspects of the Social Studies curriculum where they have much knowledge and skip or put less emphasis on other aspects they lack in-depth knowledge, thus, the integrated approach to teaching Social Studies is not adopted effectively by out-of-field teachers. This waters down the content of Social Studies at the Senior High School level. Addressing the problem of out-of-field teaching in Social Studies requires training and recruiting more teachers who have background training and experience in the integrated approach to the teaching of Social Studies.

“To Be Twice as Good to Get Half” is a common mindset among high aspiration and ambition Black individuals in the U.S., capturing the lived reality of Minorities’ Diminished Returns (MDRs). This paper explains that MDRs reflect how, even with high levels of ambition, self-efficacy, education, and income, Black individuals and other marginalized groups do not experience the same protective benefits for health and well-being as White populations. Systemic obstacles embedded within U.S. society weaken the expected returns on socioeconomic achievements for racialized individuals, creating a reality where “being twice as good” still results in lesser outcomes. High-SES Black individuals, for instance, continue to face significant risks for adverse outcomes, such as depression and chronic disease, due to structural inequities across domains like labor market discrimination, segregation, and accumulated disadvantage from childhood. Our analysis identifies key mechanisms—including interpersonal discrimination, lower-quality education, and structural racism in sectors like banking, policing, and real estate—that erode the protective effects of SES across racial lines. Mediating factors, such as chronic stress, allostatic load, and epigenetic changes over the life course, further compound these diminished returns, weakening the expected physical and mental health benefits. Drawing on extensive evidence from U.S. national and local datasets and corroborated by international studies, this paper underscores the necessity of policies that dismantle structural barriers rather than relying solely on SES improvements. Recommendations include implementing multi-sectoral policies, recognizing the unique challenges of middle-class non-White populations, and approaching policy with humility, acknowledging that achieving equity is a long-term endeavor. By challenging the “bootstraps” narrative, this paper advocates for structural interventions aimed at genuine health and economic equity for all racial and socioeconomic groups. While we provide an in-depth analysis of MDRs’ phenomena, mechanisms, mediators, and policy implications, the experience is often distilled as, “I have to be twice as good to get half.”

This is true for clearing and settlement and for the day-to-day needs of buyers and sellers alike. Clever observers of both cash and digital transactions can spot cases where technology that supports transaction security or safety can strengthen consumer-borrower ties, mitigate default risks, and reduce recidivism. In general, a cloud solution for payment processing and merchant services solves two major barriers to optimum business technology: lack of scalability and lack of security [1]. The extension of current practice has its advantages, but new solutions unlock significant opportunities for both consumers and financial institutions [2]. The focus of this work is on the provisioning of cloud-based payment processing and merchant services to financial institutions and established global organizations, although the options available with these services mean they are potentially applicable to a wide range of group entities, including non-trading organizations, pension administrators, and group treasurers. With the increased attention to cybersecurity, a mass of data is available to assist the IT departments of the major payment processors, merchants, and acquirers to get cybersecurity on the radar of C-level executives [3]. The case is put forward for the increased targeting of and reporting to the Board’s Audit, Risk, and Liability Committees of publicly held payment processors and merchants to reduce fraud losses and mitigate the reputation and class action lawsuit risk due to data breaches. The progress of technology in the payment sector requires all stakeholders to have a collective approach in order to mitigate fraud and cybersecurity-related risks in new products and services to enhance consumer confidence and the proportion of retail cashless transactions [4].

Background: While educational attainment is generally associated with reduced reliance on Social Security and disability benefits, Minorities' Diminished Returns (MDRs) theory suggests that the socioeconomic benefits of educational attainment are not equally distributed across racial groups and are weaker for minoritized populations. This study explores the association between educational attainment and reliance on Social Security and disability benefits among Black and White adults in the United States. Objective: Building on the MDRs framework, we analyzed data from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) 2023 to examine how educational attainment impacts reliance on Social Security disability income, disability benefits, and public assistance for Black and White adults. Methods: We used a nationally representative sample of Black and White adults from the NHIS 2023 dataset. The outcomes assessed were reliance on three income sources: (1) Social Security disability income, (2) disability benefit income, and (3) public assistance disability income. Educational attainment was classified into three levels: less than high school (reference), high school diploma to some college, and college graduate or more. Logistic regression models assessed the relationship between educational attainment and reliance on each income source, with separate analyses for Black and White adults to evaluate differential effects. Results: Higher levels of educational attainment (high school diploma to some college and college graduate or more) were associated with lower odds of relying on Social Security disability, disability benefits, and public assistance. However, the protective effects of educational attainment were notably stronger for White adults than for Black adults. Among Black adults, even high educational attainment showed limited effectiveness in reducing reliance on these income sources, underscoring the Minorities' Diminished Returns (MDRs) phenomenon. Conclusions: Although educational attainment reduces reliance on Social Security and disability-related income sources, these protective effects are less pronounced for Black adults compared to White adults. The findings reveal persistent racial disparities in the economic returns of education, suggesting that structural factors may undermine the socioeconomic and health benefits of educational achievement for Black Americans. Targeted policy interventions may be needed to improve economic stability for Black adults, including those with higher educational credentials.

The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study provides a unique opportunity to examine racial disparities in the pathways from SES to brain development and behavior, especially through the lens of Marginalization-Related Diminished Returns (MDRs), where the effects of SES are attenuated for minority groups. Objective: This study investigates racial variation in the associations between SES, cerebral cortical volume, and tobacco use initiation, comparing Black and White youth over 4-6 years of follow-up. Methods: Data from the ABCD study were analyzed to assess pathways from family income to adolescents’ cortical volume via the needs-to-income ratio, and from cortical volume to tobacco use initiation. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate these pathways, stratified by race, with a focus on comparing Black and White participants. Covariates included family and neighborhood SES, demographic factors, and baseline behavioral measures. Results: We found that the positive association between income (via the needs-to-income ratio) and total cortical volume was significantly weaker for Black youth compared to White youth. Additionally, the link between larger total cortical volume and reduced risk of tobacco initiation was also weaker in Black adolescents. These findings were consistent over 4-6 years of follow-up, suggesting that Black youth experience diminished returns from higher SES in terms of brain development and behavioral outcomes. Conclusions: Our findings highlight significant racial disparities in the pathways from SES to brain development and tobacco use initiation, supporting the Marginalization-Related Diminished Returns (MDRs) framework. While higher SES is associated with larger cortical volumes and lower tobacco use risk in White youth, these associations are attenuated in Black adolescents.

Sentiment analysis, a vital aspect of natural language processing, involves the application of machine learning models to discern the emotional tone conveyed in textual data. The use case for this type of problem is where businesses can make informed decisions based on customer feedback, identify the sentiments of their employees, and make decisions on hiring or retention, or for that matter, classify a text based on its topic like whether it is about a particular subject like physics or chemistry as is useful in search engines. The model leverages a sequential architecture, transforms words into dense vectors using an Embedding layer, and captures intricate sequential patterns with two Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) layers. This model aims to effectively classify sentiments in text data using a 50-dimensional embedding dimension and 20 % dropout layers. The use of rectified linear unit (ReLU) activations enhances non-linearity, while the SoftMax activation in the output layer aligns with the multi-class nature of sentiment analysis. Both training and test accuracy were well over 80%.

Financial Strain Partially Explains Diminished Returns of Parental Education in the ABCD Study

Background: Previous research shows that socioeconomic status (SES) positively impacts children's development, yet the benefits are not equally distributed across racial groups. According to the Minorities’ Diminished Returns (MDRs) framework, Black children tend to experience smaller gains from parental education compared to White children. Objective: Building on the MDRs framework, this study examines whether high financial strain contributes to the diminished returns of parental education for Black children, using data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study. We hypothesized that: (1) there would be a positive effect of parental education on total cortical volume, (2) this effect would be weaker for Black than White children, and (3) higher household financial strain in Black families would mediate the diminished returns of parental education on total cortical volume for Black children. Methods: Data were drawn from the baseline ABCD Study, focusing on 7,936 9- and 10-year-old children identified as either Black (n = 1,775) or White (n = 6,161). Parental education was the key independent variable, covariates included age, sex, household income, and marital status, race was the moderator, financial strain was the mediator, and total cortical volume was the outcome. Structural Equation Models (SEMs) were employed to examine the associations between parental education and cortical volume, with financial strain as a mediator and race as a moderator. Results: Higher parental education was associated with greater cortical volume in the pooled sample. However, this effect was significantly weaker for Black children. Financial strain partially mediated the observed diminished returns of parental education. Conclusion: High financial strain experienced by middle-class Black families partially explains why the association between parental education and child development is weaker in Black than White families. Interventions aimed at enhancing educational quality, increasing employability, expanding access to higher-paying jobs, and reducing labor market discrimination against Black individuals may help address racial inequities in child development in the U.S. Efforts to reduce financial strain should extend beyond low-income populations to also support higher-educated minority families.

Objective: Inequalities exist in children’s educational outcomes—including reading proficiency, school discrimination, and school disciplinary actions—across zip codes with different levels of educational childhood opportunity index (COI). This study examines the interaction between race and educational environment on children’s educational outcomes. We hypothesize that race, parental education, and their interaction are associated with perceived school discrimination, which in turn reduces their cognitive, academic, and emotional wellbeing. We also hypothesize that Black children with high socioeconomic status (SES) report high perceived school discrimination in high-COI settings. Methods: Data were drawn from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, which measures a wide range of educational, cognitive, and emotional outcomes. At the same time, the ABCD children are sampled across areas with vast differences in COI rankings, that can be classified into these five categories: very high, high, average, low, and very low educational COIs. Our structural equation models (SEM) tested the additive and interactive effects of race and educational attainment on perceived school discrimination, and the effects of school discrimination on various cognitive abilities (reading proficiency, picture vocabulary, and list sorting working memory), school suspension, as well as depressed mood. Our multi-group SEM assessed how these relationships vary across educational COI levels. Results: Our findings showed that high SES Black children report highest school discrimination in residential areas with highest COIs. This is based on the observation that the interaction between race and parental education on experiences of school discrimination were only significant in areas with highest COI. Across residential areas with different COI levels, students who experienced higher school discrimination had higher suspension, worse depression, and worse cognitive performance. Conclusion: While higher COIs are associated with better academic outcomes, Black-White gaps exist in the role of increased COI through increased racial bias that children perceive. These findings underscore the complexity of educational equity, suggesting that improving COI alone is insufficient for eliminating racial disparities in school experiences. Policies should be in place to reduce school-based discrimination against Black students in high COI settings.

Objective: This study examines racial disparities in educational outcomes—including reading proficiency, grade point average (GPA), school discrimination, and school disciplinary actions—across regions with different levels of educational childhood opportunity index (COI). Our aim is to explore how these racial gaps between Black and White students vary in areas with differing educational opportunities. We hypothesize that higher COI is associated with smaller academic achievement gaps but may also correspond with greater racial bias in unfair school treatment. Methods: Data were drawn from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, which provides comprehensive measures of educational outcomes, cognitive performance, and COI. National COI rankings were used to classify regions into five categories: very high, high, average, low, and very low educational opportunity. We analyzed racial gaps in reading proficiency, and experiences of discrimination and suspension across these COI categories. Multi-group Structural Equation Models (SEM) were used to assess how the relationship between race and educational outcomes varies across COI levels. Results: Our findings confirmed that Black-White gaps in reading proficiency and cognitive test performance (Flanker task) were less pronounced in regions with higher COI. However, racial disparities in school disciplinary actions and experiences of discrimination were more pronounced in higher-opportunity areas. Specifically, the effect of Black race was stronger in regions with the highest COI, where Black students experienced a disproportionately higher rate of unfair school treatment, including both school discrimination and suspensions, compared to their White peers. Conclusion: This exploratory study supports that while higher educational opportunities are associated with smaller academic achievement gaps between Black and White students, they might be linked to increased racial bias in school disciplinary actions and discriminatory treatment. These findings underscore the complexity of educational equity, suggesting that improving access to quality education alone is insufficient to eliminate racial disparities in school experiences. Addressing school-based bias and discrimination must accompany efforts to enhance educational opportunities.

Intersectionality has significantly enhanced our understanding of how overlapping social identities—such as race, ethnicity, gender, sex, class, and sexual orientation—interact to shape individual experiences. However, despite its theoretical importance, much of the existing literature has relied on qualitative approaches to define and study intersectionality, limiting its application in predictive modeling, comparative analysis, and policy development. This paper introduces the concept of Quantitative Intersectionality Scoring System (QISS), a novel approach that assigns numerical scores to intersecting identities, thereby enabling a more systematic and data-driven analysis of intersectional effects. We argue that QISS can substantially enhance the utility and predictive validity of quantitative models by capturing the complexities of multiple, overlapping social determinants. By presenting concrete examples, such as the varying impacts of socioeconomic mobility on life expectancy among different intersectional groups, we demonstrate how QISS can yield more precise and reliable forecasts. Such a shift would allow policymakers and service providers to dynamically assess economic and health needs, as well as the uncertainties around them, as individuals move through different social and economic contexts. QISS-based models could be more responsive to the complexities of intersecting identities, allowing for a more quantified and nuanced evaluation of policy interventions. We conclude by discussing the challenges of implementing QISS and emphasizing the need for further research to validate these quantifications using robust quantitative methods. Ultimately, adopting QISS has the potential to improve the accuracy of predictive models and the effectiveness of policies aimed at promoting social justice and health equity.

The purpose of this study was to assess different periodontitis groups affected with mild, moderate and severe alveolar bone levels and treated using the Sandwich’s procedures. A total of 53 subjects, who had taken two sets of full-mouth standarized paralleling radiographs with mean observation time was 10.18±3.89 years and (ranges: 5.1 to 18.3 years) were collected for the past 20 years. The radiographic alveolar bone levels (RABL) at mesial and distal aspects of teeth were assessed by measuring the distance between cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) and the bone crest using an electronic digimatic caliper (EDC) under 7.5 magnified radiographs. The patients, who presented with SAP, were between 24 and 84 years of age, with a mean age of 54.8±10.2years. Although, the treatment of angular defects in molars with guided tissue regeneration, emdogain has been reported and has exhibited significant and predictable results, however, afforded very limited and less predictable results in the treatment of advanced class II and III maxillary furcation defects. The majority of root resection procedures are commonly recommended for treating advanced molar furcation, in particular located at molars with class III furcation involvement, there is still some controversy regarding the long-term prognosis after different treatment modalities. In general, the root resection procedure is a surgical approach for simultaneously performing a periodontal flap operation at first and followed by the amputation and/or resection of maxillary root(s). There are some complications and disadvantages, such as post-operative pain and bleeding, swelling, infection, etc. The present report is to describe the combination of therapeutic provisional prosthesis (TPP), fixed prosthesis, non-surgical procedure using root separation and/or resection (RSR) and for the treatment of advanced Class II and III furcation-Involved molars. In addition, evidenced-based clinical trials of retrospective and longitudinal data were also prescribed here. The purpose of this study was to present treatment procedures of Sandwich’s technique and retrospectively to evaluate the long-term clinical trials of this method in treating molar teeth with SAP and molar FI who were diagnosed as guarded and/or hopeless prognosis.

This study aimed to examine the school facility quality on children's social achievement in Kindergarten in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region. The study adopted a mixed-method approach. The study population comprised twenty-five (25) teachers and five (5) head teachers from all kindergarten schools in five circuits in the Yendi municipality. A purposive sampling technique was used to select the study participants. The main instruments for data collection were structured questionnaires and observation checklists. The data were statistically analysed using simple frequencies and percentiles presented on a simple frequency table. The study reveals that inadequate access to essential resources, such as textbooks, teaching and learning materials, and proper classroom environments, adversely affects teacher effectiveness and student engagement. The findings indicate that while some facilities, such as restrooms and playgrounds, are available, many need to be updated or more to meet the needs of the children. To enhance the educational experience for young learners, stakeholders, including the government, educational authorities, and the community, must collaborate to improve the infrastructure and resources available in these schools.

The severity of the code smells must be measured as well as fairness on it because it will help the developers especially in large scale source code projects. Code smell is not a bug in the system as it doesn’t prevent the program from functioning but it may increase the risk of software failure or performance slowdown. Therefore, this paper seeks to help developers with early prediction of severity of code smells and test the level of fairness on the predictions especially in large scale source code projects. Mutational Analysis of Driver and Non-driver Mutations of Philadelphia Chromosome-negative Myeloproliferative Neoplasms; Diagnosis and Recent Advances in Treatment

Abstract Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are hematological disorders affecting myeloid stem cells. They are classified as Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome positive-chronic myeloid leukemia, and Ph-negative polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, primary myelofibrosis, chronic neutrophilic leukemia, chronic eosinophilic leukemia, juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, and MPN unclassifiable. This review is mainly focused on the Ph-negative MPNs namely, PV, ET, and PMF. These affect both males and females with a slight male predominance, with patients mainly presenting in the seventh decade. Patients often present with thrombotic events resulting in complications that lower survival rates. The major driver mutations that have been identified in MPNs are JAK2 Exon 14, JAK2 Exon 12, MPL Exon 10, and CALR Exon 9. The importance of these driver mutations gives due recognition to their inclusion into the 2022 diagnostic criteria of the MPN WHO Classification. However, other non-driver mutations have also been reported, especially in triple-negative cases. These mutations lead to downstream constitutive activation of the JAK/STAT signaling pathway, as well as the MAPK, and PI3K/Akt pathways. PLCs, or programmable logic controllers, are essential parts of contemporary industrial automation systems and are responsible for managing and keeping an eye on a variety of operations. PLC reliability is critical to maintaining industrial systems' continuous and secure operation. A wide range of reliability strategies were used to improve the reliability of Programmable Logic Controllers, and this article methodically looks at them all. The evaluation classified PLC reliability techniques into Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Hazard analysis (HA), Reliability block diagram (RBD), Fault tree analysis (FTA), Physics of failure (PoF) and FMEA/FMECA, after thoroughly reviewing the body of literature. The proportion of reviewed papers using either RCA, RCM, FMEA/FMECA, FTA, RBD, RCM, PoF, or Hazard analysis to increase the reliability of PLCs showed that RCA, which makes up 20% of the publications reviewed, has been used the most to increase the reliability of the PLC, followed by HA, RCM, RBD, FTA, and PoF, which account for 17%, 16%, 16%,13%, 10%, and 8% of the articles reviewed, respectively. The paper discusses new developments and trends in PLC reliability, such as the application of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to fault detection and predictive maintenance.

This study investigates the relationship between teacher-trainees' academic self-concept and performance in Colleges of Education in Ghana. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from teacher-trainees in Ada and Accra Colleges of Education through surveys and interviews. The study hypothesised that there is no significant relationship between academic self-concept and academic performance among teacher-trainees. Results revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between academic self-concept and performance, indicating that teacher-trainees with higher academic self-concepts tend to perform better academically. Furthermore, gender differences in academic self-concept and performance were explored, with findings suggesting no significant gender disparities in either domain. Institutional factors, such as school climate and resources, were also found to influence academic performance. Recommendations include promoting positive academic self-concept, implementing gender-responsive pedagogy, and creating supportive learning environments in Colleges of Education. By addressing these factors, teacher education programs can better prepare future educators for success in the classroom and contribute to the improvement of educational quality in Ghana.

Qualitatively, the study focused constructivist research paradigm. A case study research design was adopted for the study. The study population comprised all six (6) Social Studies teachers, the headmaster and the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO). Purposive and convenient sampling techniques were used to select the participants for the study. The main instrument for data collection was a semi-structured interview guide and observation protocol. The data were analysed using the interpretative technique based on the themes arrived at during the data collection from the semi-structured interview. It also indicated that teachers perceived their incompetence when using technology as they feel less in control of their classes and are unlikely to explore new possibilities that utilise technology when planning their lessons. They learn the theoretical aspect and practice and perceive the teacher’s role in the classroom changes from an instructor to a facilitator, which changes the teaching method to student-centred (constructive methodology) which aids content absorption by the learner through learning by doing. The study also indicated that teachers perceived their incompetence when using technology as they felt less in control of their classes and were unlikely to explore new possibilities that utilised technology when planning their lessons. It is recommended that the Ministry of Education and National Teaching Council collaborate with Ghana Education Service to set up Social Studies training centres in all the district capitals equipped with competent staff to periodically organise in-service training for teachers to build their capacity on how to pedagogically incorporate multimedia resources in their instructions to improve students learning outcomes.

Challenges are part and parcel of human activities. Quantitatively, a relational survey model research was adopted for the study. The population for this study comprised all Junior High School (JHS) Religious and Moral Education (RME) students in Bokro M/A JHS and the Eziom Methodist JHS in the Nzema-East Municipality of the Western Region. Purposive and random sampling techniques were used to select the schools and respondents for the study. The main instruments for data collection were a test and a questionnaire. The data from both the control and experimental groups on the challenges learners face in using the flipped classroom model in RME were analysed using means and standard deviations. The study indicates the challenges learners face by employing the flipped classroom model to learn include lack of data to access the internet, frequent light outs, lack of technological devices to access contents, frequent power outages, and difficulty in comprehending some of the materials given to them. Given that learners face frequent power outages during periods that they watch videos assigned to them by their teachers, it is recommended that the government and the Electricity Company of Ghana ensure that there is a constant flow of power to allow learners trying to use the flipped classroom to learn are without any hindrance. It is also recommended that the Ghana education service should organise continuing professional development for RME teachers on effective uses of technology in teaching and learning subject concepts. The government should also supply the basic schools with all the needed technological devices to promote effective teaching, learning and assessment.

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of new religious movements’ televangelism on women in Dunkwa-on-Offin in the central region of Ghana. The study adopted the sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach. The study population was important because they make up a bigger share of individuals who attend mainline churches and are constantly exposed to televangelism in their daily lives. A multi-stage sampling technique (purposive and simple random sampling techniques) was used to select two hundred (200) women for the study. Krejcie and Morgan's table determined the two women population of 400 (for both churches). The main instruments for data collection were questionnaires and interview guides. Quantitative data was analysed with the use of the IBM SPSS statistics software version 23, to compute frequency distributions, percentages, tables and cross-tabulation. Descriptive statistics and inferential analysis were employed in the analysis of the data. Qualitative data was analyzed thematically by identifying relevant information, coding, classification and summaries. The study revealed that televangelism has influenced women to follow televangelists rather than the teachings of their churches. Also, the activity has influenced the youth and women to follow false teachings, prosperity and vain promises of travelling. The findings of the study revealed that televangelists’ messages are geared towards obtaining money and raising unrealistic hopes. It is recommended that the government should also establish and enforce policies and regulations that encourage genuine televangelism programming and deter televangelists who are driven by fraud and self-gain by registering all the churches and holding them accountable for their actions.

The thrust of this paper is to delve into the cohesive devices of political discourse as it pertains to Nelson Mandela‘s I Am the First Accused. The text was codified and the lexico-grammatical resources were examined in terms of semantic ties through the lens of Discourse analysis. The text was analysed based on Halliday and Hasan’s, 1976 five major cohesion classification categories: reference, demonstrative references, substitution, conjunction and lexical cohesion. The research indicated that there were sufficient phenomenon-example relationships within the text. In other words, there was adequate justification for claim statements within the text. There are also adequate cause-consequential relations in the text. Anaphoric references were commonplace in the text. It was also found out that cataphoric reference was sparingly used in the text. Analysis of the data also revealed that there were 30 instances of personal references, 21 demonstrative references, 3 instances of comparative references, and 6 instances of substitution. There were no instances of ellipsis. There were 7 instances of conjunction as a semantic link. There were 15 instances of repetition, 5 examples of synonyms and 3 instances of antonyms. It is recommended that public speakers and media practitioners take cognisance of cohesive devices and make their write-ups and speeches more cohesive and coherent for their audience and readers to decode meaning. Teachers of English as a second language should give serious attention to the teaching of cohesion as a semantic link within a text since cohesion and coherence aid the readability of a text. Cataphoric references sustain the interest of listeners and readers since they expect information yet to be given. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers of English as a second language should encourage their students to use some cataphors in their essays to create some kind of suspense in their readers. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) could also be used as an analytical tool to examine how power plays within the text.

The purpose of this study was to examine the challenges and management supports in teaching and learning of Social Studies in Public Senior High Schools in Akuapem South and North Districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Quantitatively, the study adopted a cross-sectional survey using a descriptive correlational research design to assess Challenges and Management Supports Teaching and Learning of Social Studies in Public Senior High Schools of Ghana. The population of the study comprised social studies teachers and students in the Akuapem South and Akuapem North Districts of the Eastern Region of Ghana. Purpose and probabilistic sampling procedures were used to select senior high schools, teachers and students for the study. The main instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire (SQ). Data was collected from 261 final year students from five Senior High Schools and 33 Social Studies teachers using structured questionnaire. Data was analysed using SPSS Version 24. Descriptive statistics (mean, SD) was conducted to summarise the data and t-test was applied to establish if there is a statistically significant difference in the perceptions of students and teachers on the school-based drivers and effective teaching and learning of social studies. The results of the study revealed that the key school-based drivers influencing the teaching and learning of social studies in the two districts relate to classroom environment; lack of management supports in terms of resource provision for practical lessons, lack of supportive physical environment such as large class size (t = 32.881, mean difference = 6.2422, p<0.05)- thus preventing teachers from engaging students in practical work and individualising their assignments (t-statistics=37.563, mean difference= 3.0920, p<0.05); and teachers inability to use diagnostics assessment tools to unraveled students difficulties and support them. The conclusion is that, the key drivers influencing effective teaching and learning of social studies are school-based and policy driven. The study therefore recommends that the government should support the teaching of Social Studies through provision of adequate resources to help teachers improve their output. Again, the student-teacher ratio should be reduced.

The emphasis on adapting learner-centric education and inclusive pedagogies to promote learning effectiveness is part of the paradigm shift in teaching. By maximizing variability, differentiated education methodologies ensure individualized instruction and equal academic success for all students. Based on this justification, this study sought to investigate Ghanaian pre-tertiary teachers' adaption of differentiated instruction strategies during the teaching and learning processes. Pre-tertiary teachers within the Kwahu Ridge of the Eastern Region of Ghana were sampled to respond to the close-ended questionnaire. A multi-pronged approach was employed in the data analysis. Respondents possessed knowledge of the differentiated instruction strategies, however, there were some disparities between first and second-cycle teachers. Significant factors influenced the range of diversity in the classroom and knowledge and experience, with the latter showing an unexpected negative influence, possibly due to experienced teachers' preference for traditional methods of teaching. Notwithstanding, a perfect alignment of instructional techniques, activities and assessment practices to accommodate the heterogeneity of students stimulate active participation, interest and readiness to learn. It is recommended that educational stakeholders should recognize the dynamic nature of the learning environment and better provide pre-tertiary teachers with the tools and support needed to employ differentiated instruction techniques successfully to ensure inclusive, individualized and intensive instruction in the classroom.

Assessment is a vital aspect of curriculum practice. The study adopted explanatory mixed-method approach and sequential research design. The population for the study comprised all Social Studies teachers in Junior High Schools in the Ayensuano District. Convenient sampling techniques and census method were used to select the district, and all the one hundred and twenty-seven (127) teachers who teach Social Studies in the junior high schools in the district. The main instruments used for data collection and analysis were questionnaire and interview guide. The quantitative data was analysed both descriptive and inferential statistical tools. The qualitative data was transliterated and coded based on themes. Pre-set themes were used to generate the transcript (text) data based upon the research questions and discussed. The study concluded that authentic assessment practices by Social Studies teachers included the occasional guidance they give to their students about how to interpret topics and situations into relevant tasks with a clearly defined goal, and how to relate their knowledge in practical challenges. The study also revealed that refined essays, oral presentations, interviews, case study discussions, and live performances as authentic assessment strategies or tools Social Studies teachers used in assessing their students' learning outcomes in lessons. The study indicated that large class size, traditional assessment (examination) system, insufficient logistics and infrastructure, a paucity of funds to begin various activities and programs, a lack of motivation from school administrators, time constraints and difficulty in developing some authentic assessment tasks coupled with assessing some lessons using authentic assessment method are some of the criteria that influence the effectiveness of authentic assessment execution in teaching Social Studies courses. It is recommended that educational leaders should provide the resources to motivate Social Studies teachers to use authentic assessments for students’ learning in the classroom situation. It is also recommended that, Colleges of Education, Universities and National Teaching Council should organise professional development workshops and seminars to build the capacity of trained Social Studies teachers on the effective uses of authentic assessment practices.

The purpose of this study was to examine Religious and Moral Eduction teachers’ usage of the flipped classroom model Model and its Influence on JHS Students’ Academic Performance in the Nzema-East Municipality of Ghana.The study adopted the quasi-experimental research design. The population for this study comprised all JHS Religious and Moral Education students and teachers within the Nzema-East Municipality of the Western Region. With the help of the Krejcie and Morgan’s sample determination table, a sample of 110 comprising 10 teachers and 100 students were selected for the study through multi-stage sampling. The instruments used for data collection were tests and questionnaires. The study indicated that, the flipped classroom is a very potent method of teaching RME. This is so because the study provides enough evidence that the flipped classroom significantly improves the performance of learners more than the traditional approaches to teaching. This is even more appropriate in a technological era such as ours. The study also revealed that, teachers have a positive view of the use of the flipped classroom in teaching RME. Junior High School RME teachers are ready to adopt the flipped classroom model in their teaching provided challenges students face are eliminated. It is recommended that, School Improvement Support Officers and Headteachers should ensure that teachers use the flipped classroom to bring variations in lesson delivery so as to improve the academic achievements of learners. It is also recommended that government should provide technological devices to schools and teachers and ensure that teachers employ the various technological devices at their disposal to the benefit of their students.

Biodiversity Conservation is a priority issue for the scientific community, and a main subject in the Biology and Geology curriculum at secondary school level in Spanish Educational System. In the present didactic proposal, we use the demographic monitoring of an endangered plant species to illustrate a research tool for estimates of biodiversity loos in nature, the local endemic Astragalus tremolsianus Pau. The aim of the proposal is to bring students closer to a real experience, which brings together knowledge of Biology, Algebra and Trigonometry, through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Showing a census to monitor the populations of a threatened high mountain flora species into the classroom is an innovative teaching activity that combines and uses knowledge from different disciplines, as well as demonstrating a real application of the knowledge acquired. The use of mathematical tools encompasses a number of skills that require the application of mathematical principles and processes in the scientific context. The introduction of the structure of scientific texts is another positive aspect of this didactic experience.

Background: In December 2019, a cluster of patients with unexplained viral pneumonia was identified in Wuhan, China. Since March 11th 2020 the WHO declared COVID 19 as a pandemic with rising number of cases all over the world. Aim of the work: The aim of the study was to measure the percentages of possible, probable and provisionally excluded cases among the first 500 attendants of the triage of Ain Shams University Hospital and describe their epidemiological and clinical characteristics. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive case series study including the first 500 patients attending the triage of Ain Shams University Hospitals from March 29th to May 31st. A constructed questionnaire in the form of a scoring system was used and data was collected through interviewing the patients after appropriate consent. Results: As regard the scoring system, 72.2% of patients had new onset of cough or old worsened cough in the previous 3 days, 59.2% had sore throat and 59% had dyspnea. Out of the 500 cases 33.2% were probable, 38.2% were possible and 28.2% were provisionally excluded. Conclusion: COVID-19 pneumonia usually occurred at an age younger than 47 years and it was more predominant in the male gender. The most common initial clinical presentations were new dry cough or chronic cough with worsening over the last 3 days, sore throat and/or runny nose and fever. Thirty-eight percent were classified as possible COVID-19 cases, and 33% were classified as probable.

This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the dark personality instrument in students of general physical education units of Mashhad universities. The participants include all students of Ferdowsi, Imam Reza, Islamic Azad, and Payame Noor universities who had chosen the units of general physical education and sport in the academic year of 2021-22, using the Morgan table, 196 people were randomly selected as a sample. A standard dark personality questionnaire (Jonason & Webster, 2010) was used to collect data. Cronbach's alpha test was used to confirm the reliability of the questionnaire. To confirm the instrument's validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used. Data analysis showed that the factor load of all items is higher than the baseline value (0.4) and the research model has a significant fit. Also, the model fit indices had acceptable values. Finally, it is recommended to sports coaches and teachers of physical education classes and leisure time to use this scale at the beginning of each semester to get to know more about the personality characteristics of students in their class and to measure these people, this can help them a lot in how to manage their classes.

The automated parking system is an extensive branch of smart transport systems. The smartness of such systems is determined by different parameters such as parking maneuver planning. Coding this control system includes vehicle parking and understanding the environment. A high-quality classification mask has been used on each sample to analyze the automated vehicle parking parameters. Mask region-based convolutional neural networks (R-CNN) was taught using a small computational workload titled faster R-CNN that operates in five frames per second. In this paper, the rapidly-exploring random tree (RRT) method was used for routing the parking space and a nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) controller was added to develop this system. We add the line detection algorithm commands to the mask R-CNN algorithm. The results can be useful to design a secure automatic parking system as well as a powerful perception system.

The study investigated formative assessment conceptions and practices among the teachers of social studies in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region of Ghana. The research was undertaken with the view of finding answers and making suggestions that could help improve the formative assessment practices specifically in social studies. A census was conducted in the eighty-four (84) public Junior High Schools in the Techiman Municipality in the Bono East Region. All the ninety-five (95) Social Studies teachers in the public Junior High Schools in the Municipality were selected for the study. A 50-item questionnaire including 2 open-ended questions was developed for the teachers. The data collected were analysed by using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The study revealed that, the teachers had correct conception of formative assessment and saw its relevance in the classroom, however, their assessment practices were not formative enough. The teachers’ assessment practices were influenced by external factors. It is recommended that pressures such as demand for continuous assessment marks to grade students ought to be reduced to allow the teachers practice assessment as professionals.

The purpose of the study was to assess teachers’ use of field trips in evaluating Social Studies lessons in Winneba Senior High School in Effutu Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. Qualitatively, a case study research design was employed for the study. The population of this study comprised all the four (4) Social Studies teachers and Social Studies Association president in Winneba Senior High School. Convenient and purposive sampling techniques were used to select the municipality, Winneba Senior High School and Social Studies teachers and Social Studies Association president for the study. The main instrument for data collection was semi-structured interview guide. The data was analysed through the use of the interpretative method on the themes identified during the data collection. The study indicated that the use of field trips in the teaching and learning of Social Studies has the potential to influence the understanding levels of students and teachers. Therefore, field trips have the potential to help students and teachers to gain new knowledge that may not have been obtained through theoretical learning in the classroom. The study also revealed that organisation of field a trip has some challenges, such as, time as the main factor, financial problems, inadequate support from School Management, Parents and some teachers, nature of the curriculum, the behaviour of students outdoor were related to the research questions and interpreted on the number of issues raised by respondents. It is recommended that procedures for seeking permission be outlined by the Ghana Education Service to facilitate easy permission processes and to reduce the stress associated with seeking permission for organizing field trips for teachers and students in Senior High Schools. It is also recommended that students should be educated more and more by their Social Studies teachers on the importance of embarking on field trips to eliminate the lukewarm attitudes of some of the students. It is recommended that the Regional and District directors of education should ensure constant and effective supervision of teachers to encourage the use of field trips as a teaching strategy for the evaluate Social Studies lessons.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of Junior High School learners in using flipped classroom model in learning Social Studies in Aowin Municipality in the western north region of Ghana. Qualitatively, descriptive survey design was used for this study. The population of the comprised junior high school students of Enchi Methodist School. Convenient and purposive sampling techniques were used to select both the school and fifty (50) respondents for the study. The main instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. The questionnaire was made up of four-point Likert closed-ended statements that required learners to tick, where appropriate, their responses. The data were analysed using the SPSS software package. The data was edited, coded and analysed into frequencies, percentages with interpretations. The study concluded that, Junior High School Social Studies learners have a generally positive perception regarding the use of the flipped classroom model to learn Social Studies. This implies that, students positively respond to the use of flipped classroom as a teaching method. Since learners have a general positive perception of the use of the flipped classroom, it is recommended that teachers use the flipped classroom as a teaching method while parents are also encouraged to provide their wards with the necessary support such as phones and data to facilitate students’ learning.

Knowledge for a Better Conservation: Syntaxonomic Review of Caribbean Pine Forests (Cuba, Hispaniola)

Abstract A phytosociological review is carried out of the pine forest formations on the islands of Cuba and Hispaniola (Caribbean), due to the diversity of soils and environments. We collected 10 plant associations belonging to the class Byrsonimo-Pinetea caribaea growing on siliceous, calcareous and sandy substrates and 21 associations on special, serpentine and ophite substrates and on ultramafic rocks belonging to the class Caseario crassinervis-Pinetea cubensis, exclusive to Cuba; while the association of pine forests on serpentines in Hispaniola is included in the class Phyllantho orbicularis-Neobracetea valenzuelanae with a Caribbean distribution. The comparative phytosociological and statistical study reveals phytosociological anomalies in the inclusion of various syntaxa, and in the description of other syntaxa according to the International Code of Phytosociological Nomenclature (ICPN). We therefore propose a change in status for several of the subassociations described: subass. ilicetosum repandae: syn. var. con Ilex repanda; subass. schmidtottietosum shaferi: syn. var. with Schmidtottia shaferi; subass. acrosynanthetosum trachyphylli: syn. var. with Acrosynanthus trachyphyllus; subass. psychotrietosum grandis: var. con Psychotria grandis; subass. notodonetosum roigii: syn. var. with Notodon roigii. Monitoring and supervision in schools is a very important aspect in the educational process. The purpose of the study was to examine monitoring and supervision of curriculum delivery in the Junior High Schools in Ejisu-Juaben Municipality of Ghana. Mixed method research approach was adopted for the study. The population f or this study was made up of teachers, head-teachers and the deputy director in charge  of supervision in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality. Purp osive and convenient sampling techniques were employed to select the one-hundred and eighty-four respondents for the study. The main instruments for data collection were questionnaire and observation. The study revealed that monitoring and supervision was more or less just conformance to stipulated regulations and that teachers and head-teachers must comply without necessarily ensuring staff development to reduce limitations. The study also indicated that there is high level of impact of monitoring and supervision on Junior High Schools’ curriculum implementation in Ejisu-Juaben Municipality over the past years. It is recommended that, f or good performance, appraisal should be done at least by the end of every school term to ascertain staff performance on their j ob. It is also recommended that, for improvement of curriculum implementation, school heads should improve on; frequency coordination of all departments of the organization of visiting less on sessions, checking teachers’ less on notes, inviting teachers to observe him/her teach and checking students’ assignments, class exercises and pupils project work to ensure regular marking of exercise takes place.

Hepatic Histopathological Alterations induced by L-Arginine and/or Dexamethasone in Adult Male Albino Rats

The liver is critical organ for metabolic homeostasis and toxic substance clearance and plays an important role in the systemic response to critical illness. Acute panreatitis (AP) progresses with a local production of inflammatory mediators, eventually leading to systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Knowing that almost all pancreatic mediators released from the pancreas to the blood stream may pass through the liver before their dilution in the systemic circulation, it would be reasonable to assume a determinant role of this organ in development of the inflammatory response associated with acute pancreatitis. Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the time courses of the effects of the exogenous glucocorticoids agonist dexamethasone on microscopical changes occurring in the liver of rats used as a model of AP induced by L-Arginine. Materials and Methods: 60 adult male albino rats weighing 150-200 gm were used. They were divided into 3 groups: Control group: Which is also divided into 2 subgroups (a & b) each of animals of the first were IM injected with 0.5ml/100gm B.W saline and those of second were injected by 0.5mg/100gm B.W dexamethasone. L-Arginine group: which received L-Arginine to induce AP. The animals of this group were divided into 3 subgroups a, b and c the animals of which were sacrificed 3 days, 2 weeks and 1 month after L-Arginine injection respectively. Dexamethasone and L-Arginine group: in which the animals were injected with both L-Arginine and dexamethasone. They were also divided into 3 subgroups a, b and c, the animals of which were sacrificed 3 days. 2 weeks, one month after the injection of the drugs. The liver of the scarified animals were dissected out and prepared for microscopical examination. Results: The histopathological changes that occurred in the livers of acute pancreatitis (AP) model animals started in the periphery of the classic hepatic lobules and progressively extended in a centripetal manner to involve all the cells of the lobules in the late period of the experiment. These changes were in the form of ballooning of the hepatocytes, progressive vacuolation of their cytoplasm most propably with fat globules and depletion of the PAS+ve glycogen granules. Injection of dexamethasone in AP model animals did not improve the case, but on the contrary it made the changes more intense, severe, and rapid. One month after injection of L-Arginine and dexamethasone, the hepatocytes all over the hepatic lobules were severely affected. They were markedly ballooned with severely vacuolated cytoplasm which was completely depleted from its PAS +ve glycogen granules, indicating severe fatty degeneration of the liver. Conclusion: From the previous data, it can be concluded that treatment of AP with dexamethasone is caused a late bad effect on the liver, where it causes its late fatty liver changes.

Purpose: The model of CSR devised by the American scientist ″Archie B. Carroll in 1991″ - which became well- known in academic circles as Carroll′s CSR pyramid, has been criticized by academics and researchers. The researcher firmly believes that one of the most important reasons that led to the emergence of these criticisms was Carroll's adoption of the idea of the pyramid as a form to illustrate his idea of CSR. The content of the pyramid does not match the accompanying explanations given by Carroll. Carroll's CSR pyramid does not reflect the concept of simultaneous CSRs. Also, Carroll's CSR pyramid does not reflect the logical interaction and interrelationships among CSRs. It is also noted that, Carroll's pyramid reflects the expectations of stakeholders and does not reflect the expectations of companies from their commitment to their social responsibilities. This study aimed to design a model for CSR, in which the content of its figure matches the explanations attached to it, and reflects the concept of simultaneous CSRs, in addition to the logical interaction and the interrelationship among those responsibilities. Method: The researcher used the concept of precedence as an approach to explain the logical interaction and interrelationships among CSRs. The idea of precedence is clearly found only in the railway industry. The interaction of CSRs with each other can be likened to the interaction of the components of a classic train (a cockpit and coaches). Therefore, the researcher adopted the idea of the classic train as an innovative model to address some of the shortcomings of Carroll ′s pyramid. Battal's CSR train as an innovative model- in this study, can reflect the notion of simultaneous CSRs, the logical interaction and interrelationships among CSRs, and expectations and aspirations of both stakeholders and companies. Result: By adopting the idea of the classic train work and its components, this study was able to produce a model of CSR as an alternative model for Carroll′s pyramid (1991). Originality/Value: Battal ′s CSR train is an educational model that is designed to address some of the shortcomings of Carroll's CSR pyramid "as a figure and content." The content of Battal′s CSR train matches the attached explanation, and this will help to understand how CSRs interact with each other, as well as the concept of simultaneous CSRs. It is an enrichment of the thought of CSR.

The SARS-COV-2 rapid spread caused an international public health emergency with unprecedented rates of morbidity and mortality. Post COVID-19 condition occurs as a spectrum of symptoms that present four or more weeks after acute infection with SARS-CoV-2. Most published data to date state 50-70% of hospitalized patients experienced at least one post-acute COVID-19 symptom up to 3 months after discharge. Commonly reported symptoms include; neurocognitive post COVID-19 (fatigue, dizziness, inattention, and brain fog), respiratory post-COVID (dyspnea, chest pain, and cough), and mental health related symptoms (insomnia, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder). Additionally, gastro-intestinal post COVID-19 (diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain) along with decline in quality of life and decreased ability to perform activities of daily living were reported. The response to post COVID-19 symptoms is still in its infancy despite being an emerging crisis as scientific evidence and robust data are nonetheless required for clear definition, identification of time frame, classification and management of the condition. New studies are needed to identify total and individual incidence/prevalence rates of different clinical presentations of post COVID-19 symptoms. These future studies will help us to o improve early recognition of long term symptoms after acute infection of COVID-19.

The purpose of the study was to examine the use of rewards and punishment to improve discipline in Yiadom Boakye Demonstration Junior High School students (JHS) in Berekum of Ghana. A qualitative approach was adopted for the study. A case study research design was used to analyse the study. The population for the study consisted of all the eight (8) teachers in the Yiadom Boakye Demonstration Junior High School (JHS). A purposive sampling technique was used to select the eight teachers and school for the study. The main instrument used for the study was an interview. The study concluded that rewards and punishment lead to a change in the behaviours of the students affecting their academic performance their courses. The study also concluded that reward policies are needed in teaching to improve student learning by fostering enthusiasm in learning; it arouses students’ interest in learning, and change their personality traits and posture in class. The study revealed that a good punishment minimises bad behaviour, once is not having any bases on the student academic life, then it will not worsen the plight of his or her academic life. It is recommended that the colleges of education in Ghana should collaborate with Ghana Education Service and National Teaching Council to organise workshops and seminars on the use of rewards and punishments in the classroom situation.

The purpose of the study was to examine technological pedagogical content knowledge of teachers and their formative assessment practices in Social Studies lessons in the Junior High Schools in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (K.E.E.A) Municipality of Ghana. With a mixed method approach, the study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study included all Social Studies teachers at the public junior high schools in the in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality. Purposive sampling technique was used to select all the seventy-four (74) public Junior High Schools and the Social Studies teachers for the study. The purposive sampling technique was used to sample the respondents because they constitute expert knowledge in the subject area and having the same characteristics. The two main instruments used to gather data for the study were questionnaire and observation. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study indicated that the assessment practices of teachers during Social Studies lessons were on the average. There was disparity between theory and practice as far as the dictates of the profile dimensions are concerned. Teachers mostly assess the cognitive aspect of the child with little attention to the affective domain. The study also concluded that there was a significant positive relationship between TPACK of teachers and their formative assessment practices at 0.05 level of significance. It is recommended that Ministry of Education, National Teaching Council, Ghana Education Service should organize professional development workshop for teachers on their formative classroom assessment practices in Social Studies lessons. It is also recommended that, in order to ensure effective formative assessment practices, Ghana Education Service should collaborate with Colleges of Education and Universities training teachers to develop appropriate TPACK for teachers to improve on their formative assessment practices in the classroom.

In this paper, we study the labial-palatalization, and the tonal processes related to the verbal prefix bɛ when cliticized to reduplicative verbs in the Akuapem dialect of Akan. Based on labial-palatalization, it is not all the Akuapem dialect that labial-palatalizes a C in a CUa/e string that triggers the labial-palatalization process. The study also concluded that when the verbal prefix or the modal marker bɛ is cliticized to reduplicated class I verbs, all the reduplicant and the base form of the verb assume different tonal melody in all the sub-dialect of Akuapem.

The purpose of the study was to assess the perceptions and challenges facing in the implementation process of the IN-IN-OUT programme in selected colleges of education in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The descriptive cross-sectional survey was employed as the research design in this study. The population was made up of supervisors, mentors, and mentees from St. Louis and Wesley Colleges of education who have been posted to various communities in the Ashanti Region of Ghana to practice teaching. Purposive and random Sampling techniques were used to select tutors, teacher-trainees, mentors and assemblymen in the practicing communities. The study's main data collection tools were questionnaires and interview and classroom observation protocols. The data collected were scored and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) computer software. Frequencies, percentages, and other measures of central tendencies were calculated. The study revealed that teacher-trainees, mentors, and assemblymen in the two (2) communities saw the IN-IN-OUT programme as useful to a large extent, even though they had varied opinions. While some say the program was merely useful, some see it as very useful and others saw the program as extremely useful. The study also revealed that the challenges faced by the various teacher trainees, mentors, and supervisors include social problems, financial difficulties, and time constraints. It is recommended that teacher trainees are posted to the rural and peri-urban communities, one can be sure that after their certification they will be fully prepared to face the challenges ahead of them. It is also recommended that the government and stakeholders should as a matter of urgency commit more money to this programme.

The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of instructional materials in teaching and learning biology in the Colleges of Education in the Central Region of Ghana. Qualitatively, a case study research design was selected for the study. The population of the study consists of three Biology tutors in the three Colleges of Education in the Central Region. The purposive sampling technique was chosen to select all the three colleges and three Biology tutors for the study. The interview guide was the main instrument for the data collection. Data were analysed using the interpretative technique based on the themes arrived at during the data collection from the respondents. The study concluded that instructional materials boast students’ cognitive abilities and arouse their interest in the lesson by helping them to reason critically during teaching and learning. The study also revealed that the competencies level of tutors helps them in the assessment of the subject, selecting relevant materials for each concept. Their pedagogical skills depend on their competencies in the classroom instructions. The study also concluded that a good presentation of a lesson has a substantial impact on teaching and learning situations, as well as the vast amount of information available to students, to supplement their instruction and the principles for appropriate use of instructional materials. It is recommended that professional development should be organised for the Biology tutors in their respective colleges to have competencies in using relevant instructional materials in assessing students in Biology lessons. It is also recommended that Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (G-TEC), National Teaching Council (NTC), and universities should collaborate with the colleges to organise workshops and seminars for tutors teaching Biology to update their knowledge in the use of digital instructional materials in lesson presentation.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the causes, effects, and management of science anxiety among Senior High School (SHS) students in the Old Tafo Metropolis of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of 337 students were selected from Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School and Al Azhariya Islamic Senior High School using the stratified random sampling procedure. Data were collected by using the Science Anxiety Scale and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study revealed that the respondents had some level of science anxiety in relation to doing science homework, having a negative attitude toward the science teacher, having fearful when entering the science classroom as well as solving science problems. The study also revealed that the causes of science anxiety involve the content, lack of infrastructure, and inadequate teaching and learning materials to make the subject easy to understand. The study revealed that science anxiety affected students’ academic performance negatively, reduced their interest in science, prevent them from pursuing science programmes in the future, and also affected school attendance. The study recommended that school heads should provide the necessary infrastructure and teaching materials that will make the teaching and learning of science practical and easy to understand.

The purpose of the study was to examine techniques and strategies use in assessing Social Studies concepts in the three senior high schools in Sefwi Wiawso Municipality in the Western North Region of Ghana. Qualitatively, the research design for this study was a Case study. The population for this study consisted of all ten (10) Social Studies teachers in three public Senior High Schools (Wiawso Senior High School, Wiawso Senior/Technical school, and Asawinso senior high school) in Sefwi Wiawso municipality in the Western North Region of Ghana. Purposive and convenient sampling techniques were used to select municipalities, schools, and Social Studies teachers for the study. The main instrument used for data collection was interview. The data were edited before being analyzed in themes and pattern. Being a case study design in qualitative research, the researcher read through the data several times so as to familiarize with the data, making notes, referring back to the research question, making decisions whether to focus on individual responses or on topics. The interview data were interpreted to articulate meaning, making decisions on whether to use direct quotes or the summary of respondents’ responses and reporting the data considering the interest of various audiences. The study revealed that teachers used various teaching techniques such as brainstorming, simulation, discovery-learning, role-play discussion, dramatization, problem-solving, and building a community implies that they believed in child-centered method of the teaching and learning of Social Studies. The study also concluded that Social Studies teachers use techniques and strategies like concept attainment, field trips, and debate co-operative learning in motivating and providing learners with the opportunity to interact with their own community or environment. It is recommended that Social Studies teachers should make effort either to go on field trips or make use of available experts that are in their communities by inviting them into the Social Studies classrooms to tap into their rich knowledge to enhance concept learning. It is also recommended that frequent seminars and periodic or regular in-service training should be organised by the Ghana Education Service to help Social Studies teachers to acquaint themselves with the modern teaching techniques and strategies that promote the teaching and learning of Social Studies concepts.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate a practical model in teaching double indicator titration in chemistry in the senior high schools in Ghana Research design for the study was Action research. The population was made up of chemistry teachers and students. in four senior high schools with two schools located in the Kwaebibirim District and two senior high schools located in the Denkyembuo District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to select the respondents for the study. The sample comprised of twenty-five (25) chemistry teachers and one hundred and fifty (150) students in the four Senior High schools. The study indicated that Chemistry teachers would improve upon the academic performance of chemistry students in double indicator titration when they use the developed practical teaching model (DEPTEM) more. The main instruments used in this study were classroom observational checklists and questionnaires. The study also revealed that the outcome of the post-test indicated that, the DEPTEM impact differently on the academic performance of SHS male and female chemistry students in the Kwaebibirim and Denkyembuo Districts of the Eastern Region. It is recommended that the government and non-governmental organizations should collaborate with the Ministry of Education to sponsor in production of more of the developed practical model (DEPTEM) for teaching chemistry lessons. This in a way would help improve the academic performance of chemistry students in the Kwaebibirim and Denkyembuo Districts of the Eastern Region and the nation at large. It is also recommended that chemistry teachers should consider teaching methods that would equally cater to both male and female chemistry students during chemistry lessons.

The purpose of this study was to examine chemistry teachers' teaching and learning strategies in double indicator titration in Senior High Schools in Ghana. Action research design using a quantitative approach was used for the study. Purposive and simple random sampling procedures were employed to select one hundred and seventy-five (175) participants (teachers and students) for the study. The classroom observational checklist and questionnaire were the instruments used to collect data in the study. Descriptive statistics tools (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) were used to analyse the quantitative data. The study revealed that Chemistry teachers in the Kwaebibirim and Denkyembuo Districts of the Eastern Region used the lecture method in teaching double indicator titration lessons instead of practical activities and this had negative effects on their academic performance. The study also indicated that the effective model that can be used to improve teaching and learning of double indicator titration is the developed practical teaching model (DEPTEM) as compared to the teachers’ method. It is recommended that in-service training should be organized for chemistry teachers who were already in the field of work to use more of the developed practical model (DEPTEM) in relation to the lecture method. It is also recommended that chemistry teachers should use teaching methods that would allow chemistry students to participate and manipulate equipment/materials using their five senses and other skills instead of teaching in abstract or allowing them to remain less active in their class.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the practices of honesty and dishonesty and its implications on the academic life of Assin Manso Senior High School students (AMASS) in the Central Region of Ghana. A qualitative method was used in this study. A case study research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised students from Assin Manso senior high school in the Central Region of Ghana. Purposive sampling technique was employed to select fifty-two-(52) respondents for this study. The forty (40) respondents consisted of all Students Representative Councils (SRC) members in the school. Each class has a representation in the study. Twelve (12) teachers selected for the study constitute the members of the disciplinary committee in the school. The main instrument for data collection were unstructured interview guide and observation checklist. Data analysed and interpreted based on the themes related to the research questions. The study indicated that honesty is not only about truthfulness rather it entails sincerity, discipline, trustworthiness, frankness, authenticity, integrity, candour, probity, rectitude, incorruptibility and scrupulousness just to mention a few. The study also revealed that, some students were found not to be honest (cheating in examination, leaving school without exeat, covering up for wrongdoing, not obeying schools’ rules and regulations and so on) even though teachers do their best to instil moral values in them and this is due to the fact that the students have little knowledge about the importance and benefits of honesty to them, society, family, school, community and the country at large. Moreover, the study indicated that some of the students were aware of the harmful effects that dishonesty could have on all aspects of their lives. It is recommended that, Students who leave school without exeat or permission should be punished in order to deter others from doing same or to be made as a day student. Students who condone and connive a wrongdoing in the school should be punished. It is also recommended that to prevent students from cheating in an examination closed-circuit television (CCTV) should be fixed in the entire examination hall. Students who cheat in an examination should be punished by the examination committee.

Convenience, purposive and quota sampling techniques were used to select schools, headteachers and teachers for the study. The main instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. Spearman’s rank order correlation was used to analyse research hypotheses 1 and 2; Wilcoxon test was also used to analyse research hypothesis 3. The study revealed that intrinsic teachers’ motivation is negatively related to Leadership for Learning within the AEC. The study also indicated that extrinsic teachers’ motivation has an insignificant positive association with Leadership for Learning within the AEC. The study also concluded that there is a significant difference between Intrinsic Teacher Motivation (ITM) and Extrinsic Teacher Motivation (ETM) in AEC. Therefore, ITM and ETM plays minimal or no role within AEC. It is recommended that the officers within AEC must not focus only on high pupils’ academic achievement at the detriment of taking appropriate steps to make classroom teaching interesting and attractive. It is also recommended that School Management Committees within AEC must in their small way do their best to boost the extrinsic motivation of teachers within the circuit.

The purpose of the study was to examine Social Studies teachers’ knowledge in the implementation of Social Studies lessons in formative assessment practices in Asante Akim North Municipality in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The study employed both descriptive and interpretative techniques. The population for the study consisted of all Social Studies teachers and students in the Senior High Schools in the Asante Akim North Municipality of the Ashanti Region. Purposive, convenient and simple random sampling techniques were used to select the schools, teachers and students for the study in all, seventeen (17) Social Studies teachers and fifty (50) students were selected from six (6) Senior High Schools. The main instrument for data collection observation, interview and focus group discussion. The study revealed that not lessons presented were in line with the general objective of the subject (Social Studies). This affected the students understanding of concepts in the subject in helping them to right wrong their decision making. The study also indicates that teaching and learning Social Studies should not be one-man affair, with the teacher doing all the talking and the students doing all the listening. It is recommended that Ghana Education Service should organise workshops and in-service training for Social Studies teachers at the Senior High School level on how to present and evaluate social Studies lessons in order to realise the goals and objectives envisaged for national development. It is also recommended that teachers who have the exposure of the subject and are equally qualified to teach it at the Senior High Schools but are found teaching at the basic level, should be allowed by the Ghana Education Service to teach the subjects at the Senior High School level. The Government of Ghana should make it a laid down policy for the recruitment of qualified Social Studies teachers to teach at the Senior High School (SHS) level for effective assessment in the classroom.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of computer-assisted instruction approach to the teaching and learning of photosynthesis on the performance of second year Senior High School (SHS 2) Biology students in science. The design for the study was a quasi-experimental research. This study was carried out in Sefwi Wiawso SHS and Asawinso SHS all at Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly in the Western North Region of Ghana. They are all mixed institution. The purposive sampling techniques was used to schools, classes and students for the study. One-hundred one (101) electives biology participants were purposively selected, they consist of SHS 2 Science of (55) fifty-five students from Sefwi Wiawso SHS and SHS 2 Home economics of (46) forty-six students also from Asawinso SHS. The third years were not selected because they were preparing to write their WASSCE. The main instrument for data collection was questionnaire. The study collected only quantitative data and employed quantitative method of data analysis. Data obtained from participants in both experimental and control groups on the Test 2 were analysed statistically using independent-measures t-test. The independent-measures t-Test was used to investigate whether any differences existed between experimental and control groups’ mean scores on the Test 2. The study further revealed that computer-assisted instructions gives feedback to learners to have the opportunity to master computer-assisted instructional package tool used. It is recommended that, computer-assisted instruction method should be encouraged in many Biology classes in Wiawso Municipal Assembly, since it gives students opportunity to see links between concepts, summarise and organise their works, thoughts logically and sequentially. Both genders must be encouraged to use computer-assisted instruction method to studying Biology.

The purpose of the study was to examine the knowledge base of students in the Assin Manso Senior High School in the central region of Ghana. A qualitative method was used in this study. The population of the study comprised students from Assin Manso senior high school in the Central Region of Ghana. Purposive sampling technique was employed to select forty (40) respondents for this study. The forty (40) respondents consisted of all Students Representative Councils (SRC) members in the school. Each class has a representation in the study. The main instrument for data collection was interview guide. The data collection was done using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The qualitative data was analysed by the use of the interpretative technique based on the themes arrived at during the interview. The themes were related to the research question. The study revealed that honesty is being loyal to a colleague, covering them up and standing by them as well. The study also indicated that honesty depict “we feeling” or “solidarity”, so to them any students who does the opposite is considered to be dishonest. It is recommended that, Students who obey the school rules and regulations should be motivated by the school authorities in order to encourage the other students to do same. It is also recommended that parents and educators, should all advocate the teaching of moral values in our schools to instil in students the benefits that honest brings to them, the school, the family, community and the country as a whole.

Knowledge of the content alone is no guarantee for effective teaching and learning, there is the need for teachers to demonstrate high level of technological and pedagogical power. The study examined the technological pedagogical content knowledge of Social Studies teachers’ in Junior High Schools in Aowin municipality in the Western North Region of Ghana. The descriptive survey design was used for the study. The population for the study included all Social Studies teachers in the public Junior High Schools in the Aowin Municipality. Simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select the Seventy-four (74) Junior High Schools and Seventy-four (74) the Social Studies teachers for the study. The main instrument for data collection was questionnaire. The study revealed that, teachers have adequate content knowledge to teach Social Studies but there are doubts as to whether their knowledge is current. The study also concluded that, teachers were not confident about their technological, pedagogical and content knowledge in Social Studies and this resulted in their negative attitude towards the integration of technology in classroom activities. It is recommended that, the Ghana Education Service should organize In-Service Training and refresher courses for teachers to keep them current and up-to-date their content knowledge in Social Studies. It is also recommended that, teachers should adopt positive attitudes towards learning and using technology in their day-to-day activities.

The objective of the study was to examine the school-related factors that contribute to the academic achievements of low- social economic – status of students in the Aboom Circuit of the Cape Coast Metropolis during 2015-2016 academic years. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Purposive and random sampling techniques were used to select teachers, schools and students. The five junior high schools (St Nicholas, St. Monica, Aboom Methodist B, Aboom Zion A and Aboom Zion C) were randomly selected from the ten schools in the circuit. A proportional allocation was used to determine and allocate the total number of students from the population to each school. The main instrument for data collection was questionnaire. The data were entered in a pre-designed template in the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software, version 21. The data were analysed using descriptive (frequency and percentages, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlation). The research hypothesis was also analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study indicated that school-related factors such as school time schedule, resources, school climate, guidance and counselling, school-parents’ relationship may significantly contribute to students’ academic achievement. It is also concluded that when the right atmosphere or conditions are created, students can perform well irrespective of their socio-economic statuses or backgrounds. It is recommended that the Ministry of Education (MOE)/Ghana Education Service (GES) in partnership with school administrators should provide adequate teaching and learning resources and facilities for effective teaching and learning at the school. It is also recommended that in other to ensure effective teaching and learning, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) should collaborate to implement a class size reduction policy effectively as expected. This means that the student-to-teacher ratio should strictly be adhered to.

The study used qualitative research approach and a case study research design to explore the factors that motivate females to complete formal education in Tolon District. The population for this study comprised all females in the Tolon District who have successfully completed formal education. A purposive sampling technique was to select ten (10) females who have successfully completed formal education and are now working in the Tolon District. The main instrument used for data collection was interview guide. Data were analysed by the use of the Interpretive Method based on the themes arrived at in the data collection. The themes were related to the research questions and interpreted on the number of issues raised by participants. The study concluded that the Girl–Child requires a conducive learning environment free from limitations to successfully acquire formal education. The presence of an impressive teacher-student relationship in schools contributes immensely to the academic accomplishment of the academic goals of the female student. The study also concluded that the female students need self determination to rise above the socio-cultural limitations encountered in formal education. They obviously have to work hard and persevere enough to achieve their desired academic accomplishment. It is recommended that teachers should be encouraged as part of their teaching responsibility to give equal opportunity to both boys and girls, in answering their questions during classes. Thus, the Girl–Child deserves extra attention to ensure their participation and fair inclusion in curricular and other extra-curricular activities whiles in school. It is also recommended that teachers should sensitize and advise the female students to eschew the habit of associating with men, during the early stage of their life.

The bottom-up or informal placemaking process is “illegal”, practised only by the “poor” and “unintellectual” classes. The author argues that various classes practise informal placemaking regardless of their economic status or educational level. Studying the spatial manifestation of informal placemaking helps to understand the concrete needs of the residents and reconsider their role in identifying places. Aiming to comprehend informal placemaking and its importance, this study investigates informal placemaking in Sheraton Residence, Heliopolis, Cairo. The area is chosen for its formality, socio-economic and cultural patterns. Cases of informal placemaking in Sheraton Residence are described and analysed to pinpoint their role in creating a sense of place, territorial identity and comprehending their meaning. A comparison with cases in informal low-income housing is conducted to construct diversities and similarities. The study encourages the re-thinking of the public role in placemaking as a place of negotiation and belonging. We can improve their urban quality by re-thinking informal placemaking and looking at how people use the place. The general impression that only informal housing and low-educated classes practise informal placemaking is incorrect.

An unhealthy dietary habit leads to excess calorie consumption (overnutrition) or inadequate supply of one or more essential micronutrients (undernutrition).This nutritional imbalance is assessed by Anthropometric measurements, Biochemical estimations, Clinical examination and assessment of Dietary intakes. Anthropometry is an inexpensive, rapid and non-invasive method that provides details on different components of body structure and is highly sensitive to the broad spectrum of nutritional status. Hence, it has always been an important tool for screening and early diagnosis of malnutrition. Undernutrition in below 5 year children is life-threatening epidemic contributing to about 45% of under 5 child deaths. Children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) are nine times more likely to die, compared to their healthy counterparts. Therefore, early and accurate diagnosis of children with SAM is crucial for its management and prevention of morbidity and mortality from the same. SAM is defined as weight-for-height Z scores (WHZ) below -3SD of the median or a mid upper arm circumference (MUAC) of <115mm in children of 6-59 months age. The cut-offs for MUAC and WHZ are scientifically approximated to each other and both are used to diagnose children with SAM (Severe Wasting). However, the research findings from various countries revealed that the agreement between WHZ and MUAC is poor as both indices classify the children with SAM differently, with a small overlap, which varies greatly among countries. These discrepancies have an implication when using either one alone for measuring the prevalence of acute malnutrition. Therefore, it is pertinent to adopt both WHZ and MUAC indices to assess the burden of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in the community.

Digital formative assessments have the features of digital learning environment and can be used by teachers to both empower students’ learning and adapt the next steps in the learning process of their students. They are effective tools that can help lecturers and tutors to both collect and analyze the required information and data for supporting the teaching and learning processes. Importantly, digital formative assessments have been particularly critical during the COVID-19 pandemic due to increased students’ learning outside traditional classrooms, limited face-to-face classes and other students’ learning and assessment difficulties at many educational institutions worldwide. In this article, we describe the essential features and importance of digital formative assessments and their recently developed communication methods. We also discuss the significance of digital formative assessments in measuring students’ learning and skills in times of global crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Are Nociplastic Pain and Neuropathic Pain Different Pains?

The International Association for the Study of Pain has classified pain into nociceptive pain, neuropathic pain, and nociplastic pain based on the cause of the pain. At present, nociplastic pain is pain that is not nociceptive pain and has the following characteristics: no clear evidence of actual or threatened tissue damage causing the activation of peripheral nociceptors or evidence for disease or lesion of the somatosensory system causing the pain. If there is tissue damage, disease or lesion, it is neuropathic pain; if there is none, it is nociplastic pain. In other words, the difference in diagnosis is whether or not tissue damage, disease, or lesion can be found at the current medical level (testing equipment). The treatment of nociplastic pain is almost the same as the treatment of neuropathic pain. Fibromyalgia is included in nociplastic pain. To my knowledge, of the nociplastic pain and neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia is the disease with the highest number of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments with evidence of efficacy. Effective treatments for fibromyalgia are often given to neuropathic pain. This expands treatment options. I presume that tissue damage, disease or lesion will be found in fibromyalgia through advances in the medical science by the time humans emigrate to Mars. The distinction between nociplastic pain and neuropathic pain complicates the diagnosis of chronic pain. However, the distinction does not improve the treatment outcomes. Medical science is the discipline to find a treatment method that can produce better outcomes. In the event of a medical controversy, the medical theory with better treatment outcomes should be adopted. It is desirable to combine nociplastic pain and neuropathic pain into one pain. This will simplify diagnosis and increase treatment options (improve treatment outcomes) in nociplastic pain and neuropathic pain.

Cerebral Palsy and Heterotaxy Syndrome: A Case Report

Background: Cerebral palsy is not only a serious neurodevelopmental disease causing significant morbidity in children, but also a traumatic experience leading to psychosocial trauma to the parents/caregivers of the affected children. It is usually caused by prenatal or early post-natal insults to the newborn brain which may be associated with some congenital syndromes like congenital heart disease with transposition of the viscera but rarely a heterotaxy syndrome, a condition characterized with congenitally abnormal arrangement of the thoracic and abdominal viscera. Method: We present a case report of a 12-month-old boy with neurodevelopmental delay, recurrent episodes of non-mucoid and non-bloody diarhoea, occasional constipation, bilious vomiting, abdominal distension and fever with associated cough and difficulty in breathing. Results: We discuss an unusual presentation of cerebral palsy and heterotaxy syndrome diagnosed clinically with supporting evidence from both laboratory and radiological tests. Cerebral palsy was diagnosed from the history of birth asphyxia, delayed developmental milestone, limb spasticity and low values for all sub-scores of Bayley-III scale. Heterotaxy syndrome was diagnosed from the radiologic evidence of dextrocardia, left-sided stomach, centrally located liver and malrotation of gut with volvulus. We also provide a brief literature review of the incidence and prevalence, causes and risk factors, classification, clinical presentation and associated co-morbidities of heterotaxy syndrome. Conclusion: Diagnosis of heterotaxy syndrome in a child with background cerebral palsy is a great challenge to both physicians and radiologists. This is more so in developing countries due to poor availability of good diagnostic apparatus, therefore, a high index of suspicion is needed. A clear understanding of the clinical features, comprehensive history taking and thorough physical examination are important in making prompt diagnosis. Timely and appropriate imaging is necessary to prevent delays in diagnosis and treatment which lead to poor outcomes.

Recent technologies have made life smarter. vehicles are vital components in daily life that are getting smarter for a safer environment. Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) are widely used in today's vehicles. It has been a revolutionary approach to make roads safer by assisting the driver in difficult situations like collusion, or assistance in respecting road rules. ADAS is composed of a huge number of sensors and processing units to provide a complete overview of the surrounding objects to the driver. In this paper, we introduce a road signs classifier for an ADAS to recognize and understand traffic signs. This classifier is based on a deep learning technique, and, in particular, it uses Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). The proposed approach is composed of two stages. The first stage is a data preprocessing technique to filter and enhance the quality of the input images to reduce the processing time and improve the recognition accuracy. The second stage is a convolutional CNN model with a skip connection that allows passing semantic features to the top of the network in order to allow for better recognition of traffic signs. Experiments have proved the performance of the CNN model for traffic sign classification with a correct recognition rate of 99.75% on the German traffic sign recognition benchmark GTSRB dataset.

The aims of this investigation will be to describe the language style based on Spider-Martin Man's Joos: far from home films and to identify the dominant language styles of the movie "Spider-Man: far from home." The analyzes are based on Martin Joo's theory's five types of linguistic style: frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate. Qualitative research design was used in the research. Content or document analysis was used by researchers. The information is gathered by watching the film and the conversation containing the communication language is detected. Then classify according to the language styles found in the film and find the main kinds of language. The results of this research are as follows in the Spider-Man section: Far From the Home." These five language-style types are Frozen made up of two data (6,7%), formal three (10%), consultants of six data (20%), casual eleven (36,7%) and intimacy consisting of eight data. The following are the types of language-styles (26,6 percent). The Casual style is the most dominant type than other types from the result of the percentage. In last place, the style is frozen.

Root Distribution of Four Tree Species Planted in Living Hedges according to Two Types of Soil and Three Agroforestry Technologies in the Sudano-Sahelian Zone of Cameroon

Abstract In the agroforestry systems of sub-Saharan Africa, the vertical and horizontal distribution of tree root biomass according to the soil profile is still poorly documented. The objective of this study is to verify the root distribution of four species of trees established in living hedges, namely, Commiphora kerstingii,Erythrina sigmoidea,Ficus thonningii and Jatropha curcas according to two types of soil (light soil and heavy soil) and three agroforestry technologies (fallows, wooded parks and plantations). The hedges were mostly monospecific in order to facilitate the identification of the roots. The experimental set-up is an entirely random factorial design with two factors. The evaluation of the distribution of tree roots was carried out using the profile method. To determine the different textural classes, a particle size analysis was undertaken in the laboratory. The results obtained show that the number of roots decreases rapidly after 30 cm of depth. The highest root densities are observed in the first 30 cm. Soil type has a slight effect (p <0.05) on rooting density in the last 30 cm of depth for all root classes, higher densities were obtained in light soil compared to heavy soil. This study aims to examine the creation of a positive culture of teaching and learning through classroom management to improve learner performance within the Kwa-Mhlanga North-East circuit in Mpumalanga province. This is a qualitative study that uses an inductive approach and a case study. For this study, interviews, observation, and document analysis were used to collect data. This study made use of thematic content analysis. Three schools were selected out of twenty-five and three participants from each school were representative of the entire population of one thousand one hundred educators in the circuit. Participants were selected purposively. The interviews were done face to face with participants from three sampled schools at scheduled times with each participant. This study found that the schools, namely School A, School B and School C use different policies in creating a positive culture of teaching and learning, policies such as staff attendance policy, assessment policy, learners code of conduct, classroom rules democratically developed, Both educators and learners lack the skill of time management and parents have deserted their responsibilities to guarantee that their children arrive on time at school, attend school daily, do the work given to them in class and discipline their children. The impact of harmonizing the creation of a positive culture of teaching and learning creates an environment where learners feel excited and positive to be part of the school and thus can take initiative. This study contends that there is a positive relationship between the positive culture of teaching and learning and classroom management. This study contributes to the body of knowledge for schools of education and training and development.

Biodiversity Management under Cashew Agro-ecosystems in Central Africa: A case study from Cameroon

Abstract This study aimed to assess the floristic composition, vegetation structure and species associations of Cashew agro-ecosystems in the North region of Cameroon. The data were collected in 100 m x 20 m transect methods. An analysis of the data collected in the field was conducted around the diversity and richness of the flora, but also the structure of Cashew agro-ecosystems. For the analyzes of vegetation structure, tree density, basal area and biovolume were calculated. The inventory included trees with a dbh greater than or equal to 5 cm on an area of ​​1 ha per plot. The experimental device installed is a complete random Fisher block with five repetitions. A total of 7849 individuals in 17 families, 20 genera and 38 species were recorded. Species Important value of vegetation cover indicated that Diospyros mespiliformis, Anogeissus leiocarpus, Annona senegalensis and Terminalia laxiflora are the most represented. Combretaceae are the most ecologically important families. Additionally, the grouping of species into four subdivisions showed that the Shannon diversity index varies from 2.18 ± 0.09 - 3.47 ± 0.17 bits, Pielou index vary from 0.98 ± 0.01 - 0.99 ± 0.01, Simpson's index ranges from 0.70 ± 0.18 - 0.93 ± 0.11, density ranges from 102 ± 1.92 - 128 ± 6.36 indiv/ha, basal area ranges from 2.02 ± 0.31 - 12.68 ± 2.01 m²/ha, biovolume ranges from 11.58 ± 1.29 - 68.03 ± 13.21 m3/ha. The Sörensen similarity index is very high with floristic affinities greater than or equal to 90%. The diameters and heights structure show a predominance of young individuals for the diameter and height classes on all plots. The present paper attempts to investigate the problem of Fault Tolerant Control for a class of uncertain neutral time delay systems. In the first time, we consider an additive control that is based on adding a term to the nominal law when the fault occurs. This approach will be designed in three steps. The first step is fault detection while the second one is fault estimation. For these two steps, we consider the adaptive observer to guarantee the detection and estimation of the fault. The third step is the fault compensation. Lyapunov method and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) techniques were considered to improve the main method. Second, we propose a Pseudo Inverse Method "PIM" and determine the error between the closed loop and the nominal system. Finally, simulation results are presented to prove the theoretical development for an example of an uncertain neutral time delay system.

The study focused Effective teaching of Social Studies Concepts in Basic Schools in Ghana. The study adopted the descriptive survey design using quantitative approach. The population for the study consisted of all Social Studies teachers in the Junior High Schools (JHS) in the Tano South District. There were fifty-two Social Studies teachers at the JHS level in the district. Non-probability sampling technique (purposive and convenient sampling techniques) was used for the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select all the fifty-two teachers and forty-one schools in the Tano South District. While the district was conveniently sampled for this study. The main instrument used to gather data was observation guide. The data gathered was analysed using the Statistical Product using Service Solutions (SPSS). The study concluded that, in respect to the teaching effectiveness of Social Studies teachers, the general performance in all the thematic areas assessed indicate that, Social Studies teachers are not at their optimum best in terms of planning and preparation, instructional skills, classroom management, communication skills and assessment skills. It is therefore recommended that, the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service (GES) in collaboration with all the teacher training institutions training Social Studies teachers should fashion out teacher development programmes such as workshops and short courses for Social Studies teachers. In these programmes, the organisers must ensure that teachers have access to high quality content course work in Social Studies.

This research discusses language style at the movie script of Papillon. This research aims to classify the type of language style and the functions of the speakers’ utterances in using language style at the movie script of Papillon. The data source of this research was YouTube “Papillon” which was aired on September, 26th 2018. This study utilized theories of Martin Joos' types of language styles and Roman Jakobson's function. Data from the Papillon Movie Script. Researchers have implemented qualitative research designs to answer the research question. The researchers used documentation as a tool for research. The researchers found 30 language-style data sets as a result of their investigation. The scientists discovered many linguistic styles. The styles are as follows: 1 data point or 3%, 6 data points or 20%, were discovered in frozen style; 11 data points or 37%, casual style 6 to 20, and intimate style 6 to 20 were found in consultancies. The following five roles were revealed in the language style: expressive, guiding, referential, metalinguistic and phasic. There were 6 data or 20 percent of expressive function; the directive works 3 or 10 percent, the reference function found 8 or 27%, the metalinguistic function discovered 7 or 23% and the phatic function discovered 6 data or 20%. Cell division that is not controlled leads to cancer, an incurable condition. An early diagnosis has the potential to lower death rates from breast cancer, the most frequent disease in women worldwide. Imaging studies of the breast may help doctors find the disease and diagnose it. This study explores an effectiveness of DL and ML models in a classification of mammography images for breast cancer detection, utilizing the publicly available CBIS-DDSM dataset, which comprises 5,000 images evenly divided between benign and malignant cases. To improve diagnostic accuracy, models such as Gaussian Naïve Bayes (GNB), CNNs, KNN, and MobileNetV2 were assessed employing performance measures including F1-score, recall, accuracy, and precision. The methodology involved data preprocessing techniques, including transfer learning and feature extraction, followed by data splitting for robust model training and evaluation. Findings indicate that MobileNetV2 achieved a highest accuracy99.4%, significantly outperforming GNB (87.2%), CNN (96.7%), and KNN (91.2%). The outstanding capacity of MobileNetV2 to identify between benign and malignant instances was shown by the investigation, which also made use of confusion matrices and ROC curves to evaluate model performance.

Factory owners and vehicle manufacturers increasingly opt for predictive analytics to inform their decisions. While predictive analytics have been proven to provide insights into the initiation of maintenance measures before a machine actually fails, the right models and features could have a significant impact on the budget spent and resources allocated. This means that financially oriented questions need to at least partially guide the decisions in the planning phase of data science projects. Data-driven approaches will play an increasingly important role, but only a few of the firms that were confident performed logistic regression models for predictive maintenance. Also, from the available knowledge, data-driven classification models connecting vehicle component failures and the occurrence of delays at the assembly line have not been published. This paper utilizes a real-world data-driven approach using classification models in predictive analytics by vehicle manufacturers and thereby links the financial implications of such data science projects to their results. We expand the existing literature on predictive maintenance and possess a unique dataset of newly launched series of vehicles, presented as-is. Our research context is of interest to researchers and practitioners in the automotive industry that manage and plan the final vehicle assembly with just-in-time principles, factoring the consequences of component failures on the assembly process. Key findings of this paper highlight that while minor tweaking of the models is possible, their potential input in decision-making processes for budget optimization is limited.

The growth in demand for rail transportation systems within cities, together with high-speed and long-distance transportation running on a rail network, raises the issues of both rail safety and security. If an accident or an attack occurs, its consequences can be extremely severe. To mitigate the impact of these events, the real-time monitoring of a rail system is required. In that case, the improvements in monitoring can be achieved using artificial intelligence algorithms such as neural networks. Neural networks have been used to achieve real-time incident identification in monitoring the track quality in terms of classifying the graphical outputs of an ultrasonic system working with the rails and track bed, to predict incidents on the rail infrastructure due to transmission channels becoming blocked, and also to attempt scheduling preemptive and preventative maintenance. In terms of forecasting incidents and accidents on board the trains, neural networks have been used to model passenger behavior and optimize responses during a train station evacuation. In tackling the incidents and accidents occurring on rail transport, we contribute with two methodologies to detect anomalies in real-time and identify the level of security risk: at the maintenance level with personnel operating along the railways, and onboard passenger trains. These methodologies were evaluated on real-world datasets and shown to be able to achieve a high accuracy in the results. The results generated from these case studies also reveal the potential for network-wide applications, which could enhance security and safety on railway networks by offering the possibility of better managing network disruptions and more rapidly identifying security issues. The speed and coverage of the information generated through the implementation of these methodologies have implications in utilizing prediction for decision support and enhancing safety and security on board the rail network.

The management of supply chains is increasingly complex. This study provides a comparative analysis of the cost-benefit analysis for managing various risks. It identifies the financial implications of leveraging artificial intelligence in supply chains to better address risk. Empirical results show a business case for managing some sources of risk more proactively facilitated through predictive modeling techniques offered by AI. Across investigation streams, the use of AI results in an average total cost saving ranging from 41,254 to 4,099,617. Findings from our research can be used to inform managers and theorists about the implications of integrating AI technologies to manage risks in the supply chain. Our work also highlights areas for future research. Given the growing interest in studying sub-second forecasting, our research could be a point of departure for future investigations aimed at considering the impact of forecasting horizons such as an intra-day basis. We formulate a conceptual framework that considers how and to what extent performance evaluation metrics vary according to differences in the fidelity of predictive models and factor importance for identifying risks. We also utilize a mixed-method approach to demonstrate the applicability of our ideas in practice. Our results illustrate the financial implications of integrating AI predictive tools with business processes. Results suggest that real-world companies can circumvent inefficiencies associated with trying to manage many classes of risk via the use of AI-enhanced predictive analytics. As managers need to justify investment to top management, our work supports decision-making by providing a means of conducting a trade-off analysis at the tactical level.

Artificial intelligence systems have been previously used to predict post-operative complications in small studies and single institutions. Here we developed a robust artificial intelligence model that predicts the risk of having cardiac, pulmonary, thromboembolic, or septic complications after elective, non-cardiac, non-ambulatory surgery. We combined structured and unstructured electronic health record data from 3.5 million surgical encounters from 25 medical centers between 2009 and 2017. Our neural network model predicted postoperative comorbidities 15 to 80 times faster than classical models. As such, our model can be used to assess the risk of having a specific complication postoperatively in a fraction of a second. With our model, we believe clinicians will be able to identify high-risk surgical patients and use their good judgment to mitigate upcoming risks, ultimately improving patient outcomes [1].

The field of sentiment analysis is a crucial aspect of natural language processing (NPL) and is essential in discovering the emotional undertones within the text data and, hence, capturing public sentiments over a variety of issues. In this regard, this study suggests a deep learning technique for sentiment categorization on a Twitter dataset that is based on Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. Preprocessing is done comprehensively, feature extraction is done through a bag of words method, and 80-20 data is split using training and testing. The experimental findings demonstrate that the LSTM model outperforms the conventional models, such as SVM and Naïve Bayes, with an F1-score of 99.46%, accuracy of 99.13%, precision of 99.45%, and recall of 99.25%. Additionally, AUC-ROC and PR curves validate the model’s effectiveness. Although, it performs well the model consumes heavy computational resources and longer training time. In summary, the results show that deep learning performs well in sentiment analysis and can be used to social media monitoring, customer feedback evaluation, market sentiment analysis, etc.
