Assessment of Handling Practices and Awareness of Aflatoxin Contamination in Spices among Micro and Small-Scale Processors in Tanzania

Frequent consumption of aflatoxins-contaminated spices has been linked to serious adverse health effects among consumers. The likelihood of exposure to these toxins is influenced by the level of public awareness. Controlling aflatoxins contamination throughout the food chain is critical for public health. This study aimed to assess the handling practices and awareness of aflatoxin contamination among micro- and small-scale spice processors. A total of 60 processors from 4 districts of two regions of Tanzania were interviewed. The results showed that while 56.7% of interviewed processors were aware of aflatoxin contamination in spices primarily through training (38.3%) and mass media (30%). However, there were still misconceptions regarding the causes and effects of aflatoxins to human health. It was observed that, poor drying and storage practices, inadequate monitoring of processors aggravated the situation. Nonetheless, all interviewed processors expressed willingness to participate in training programs to ensure quality and safety along the chain. The study findings underscore the necessity for targeted interventions to reduce aflatoxin risks in the spice value chain. These should include strengthened food safety inspections and enforcement, as well as tailored training and support for micro and small-scale spice processors. Enhancing their knowledge and ability to adopt proper handling, drying and storage practices is critical for enhancing food safety and safeguarding public health.

Effectiveness and Safety of Acupuncture Combined with Bloodletting Cupping Therapy in the Treatment of Scapulohumeral Periarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Background: Scapulohumeral periarthritis commonly afflicts individuals in their middle age. Its etiology is multifaceted, and treatment presents a challenge with a high risk of recurrence. The main symptoms include shoulder pain and limited joint mobility, seriously affect the quality of life of the patients. Recent research indicate that acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping can significantly improve the function of activity of shoulder joint and the pain in individuals with scapulohumeral periarthritis. However, these studies have typically been limited in scope, therefore additional research to substantiate the efficacy and safety of these intervention. Methods: To evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping for treating patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis. We conducted an online search of databases in both Chinese and English, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, Wangfang Data, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP) and Chinese BioMedical Literature Database (CBM), to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) concerning the use of acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping in scapulohumeral periarthritis patients. We also examined the references within the identified literature. Search utilised subject headings and free-text terms in both languages, without racial restrictions, for records up to April 3, 2024. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and evaluated their qualities. RevMan 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis of the included studies. The protocol of this review was recorded in the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (PROSPERO). Its registration number is CRD42023454614. Results: This review incorporated 22 RCTs involving a total of 1,774 patients. The results of meta-analysis showed that the clinical effective rate (RR=1.25, 95%CI [1.20, 1.30], P<0.00001) of treating scapulohumeral periarthritis with acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping was higher in the experimental group than in the control group. The all of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score (MD=-1.70, 95% CI [-2.17, -1.22], P<0.00001). Melle score (SMD=-2.45, 95% CI [-2.55, -2.34], P=0.007]) and recurrence rate (RR=0.23, 95% CI [0.07, 0.77], P=0.02) were lower in the experimental group than in the control group with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion: The acupuncture combined with bloodletting cupping for the treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome demonstrates definite efficacy and safety, with superior clinical effectiveness, pain relief, improvement in shoulder joint mobility, and reduction in recurrence compared to acupuncture alone. Therefore, it is worthy of being promoted and applied clinically.

Baloxavir marboxil (BXM) is a novel anti-influenza agent that developed in Japan and inhibit the cap endonuclease specifically, and suggested the more clinical effectiveness in influenza. BXM reduces viral shedding more than do neuraminidase inhibitors (NAIs), and its clinical efficacy is equivalent to that of NAIs but is superior to that of NAIs in the case of type B influenza. BXM does not demonstrate any issues with safety, and treatment with BXM reduces the incidences of complicating sinusitis and bronchitis. Prophylactic administration of BXM inhibits intrafamilial transmission of influenza although low susceptible viruses with a PA/I38X substitution are isolated with a certain frequency following administration of BXM. Finally, In influenza treatment for patients aged 12−19 years and for adult outpatients, BXM can be used with the same recommendation level as oseltamivir.

Introduction: Cerebral venous thrombosis is a rare type of stroke caused by partial or complete occlusion of cerebral venous sinuses. Current guidelines recommend the administration of Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH) during the acute phase and oral Vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) such as warfarin for 3-12 months. Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) are an attractive alternative to VKAs as therapy for CVT, for its safety and efficacy as anticoagulation therapy for deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Method: This systematic review is written based on PRISMA guidelines with electronic search performed on various databases for journals published from June 1, 2018 to June 1, 2023. Results: We found four studies fulfilling the inclusion criteria, with four randomized controlled studies presenting 179 CVT patients treated with DOAC and 150 patients treated with standard therapy. DOACs used in reviewed studies are Dabigatran and Rivaroxaban. Discussion: Administration of DOACs as anticoagulation therapy in patients with CVT presents better recanalization rate with no significant differences in efficacy compared with VKAs, along with a better safety profile through similar mortality rate across two groups. Conclusion: DOACs as long-term anticoagulation therapy in patients with CVT has better efficacy along with a similar safety profile compared to VKA.

A persistent problem in the pharmaceutical industry that has existed for centuries is the prevalence of counterfeit drugs, and the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that millions of people are affected by this issue each year. In particular, 4 out of 10 drugs in poor or underdeveloped countries may be adulterated, which can lead to severe adverse events. To address this problem, many countries have implemented regulatory compliance measures such as pharmaceutical drug serialization, which requires the unique identification of every drug package manufactured. This enables tracking and tracing of individual packages throughout the supply chain and helps to prevent counterfeit drugs from entering the market. In this paper, we conduct a systematic review of the serialization process evaluation and its impact on the pharmaceutical industry. We discuss the benefits of pharmaceutical drug serialization, including its ability to improve drug security and reduce adverse events and investigations. We also examine the challenges associated with implementing serialization processes and the regulatory requirements necessary for compliance. Finally, we explore the various tracking and tracing technologies used in serialization processes and their effectiveness in preventing the distribution of counterfeit drugs. Overall, this paper highlights the importance of pharmaceutical drug serialization in ensuring the safety and efficacy of drugs in the healthcare industry, particularly in poor or underdeveloped countries where the problem of adulterated drugs is especially prevalent.

This seminar in writing introduced novel cancer thermal therapy using functionalized heat-generating nanoparticles with about 100 nm diameter, administered via intratumor injection. The nanoparticles named magnetites cationic lipid composite particles (MCL particles) were composed of about 10 nm magnetites (Fe3O4), a cationic lipid and two neutral lipids. Magnetites in MCL particles generated heat due to external alternating magnetic field (AMF) irradiation to kill cancer cells nearby located. A cationic lipid component conferred several functions to MCL particles necessary for its efficacy and safety. Origination of the therapy with MCL particles was summarized by referring to our earlier reports in 1996-2014. Further characterizations of MCP particles and utility of heat dose index for treatment control were summarized by referring to our recent reports in 2019-2022. Unpublished data were supplemented to support overall understanding of the therapy. Purpose of this seminar is to clarify novel principle of the therapy in comparison with conventional thermal therapies and to discuss its clinical application.

False Beliefs about Contracting Avian (Bird) Flu from Processed Poultry Products

Avian influenza (bird flu) occurs sporadically in American poultry flocks, decimating these flocks and causing substantial economic losses. Avian influenza also impacts the beliefs of food handlers and preparers in the home (home cooks). Although those who properly handle and prepare processed poultry products cannot succumb to avian influenza, there is a widespread belief that one can contract the bird flu from these foods. Beliefs about getting avian influenza from poultry products and intentions to avoid consuming poultry products are the focus of this study of 285 home cooks. False beliefs about getting avian influenza from handling, preparing, and consuming poultry products are apparent in this sample. Correlational analysis also shows that those holding the false beliefs intend to act upon those beliefs by planning not to consume poultry products. Moreover, the false beliefs about contracting avian influenza from poultry products are correlated with a bias to see oneself as less likely to produce food that contains foodborne diseases. These findings are consistent with, and contribute to, the research literatures on belief formation and change, behavioral intentions, and with research showing how guilt by association thought processes underlie false beliefs related to food safety. This research has important implications for poultry and other food processing industries, and for campaigns to persuade the public about real and imaginary risks associated with particular food products.

The characterization of rock mass along the tunnel alignment based on physical, geological and geotechnical data of the project area was used in this work. The support systems were recommended for all geotechnical units using RMR and tunneling quality index (Q-system) support chart. The paper also consists in making a two-dimensional numerical study of the stability of the left lateral slope of the Portal of the tunnel with the Slide 6.0 software and inside provisional support with the Phase.2 2D program. The study shows good results of the internal rock mass stability of the tunnel and satisfactory safety factor (FoS) in terms of collapse analyzes of the lateral slope of the tunnel portals.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Occupational Health and Safety Management Practices in Improving Workplace Safety in Nigerian Construction Sites

The construction industry remains one of the most hazardous sectors globally, with Nigeria experiencing a high incidence of workplace accidents despite the adoption of Occupational Health and Safety Management (OHSM) frameworks. This study evaluated the effectiveness of OHSM practices in improving workplace safety across construction companies in Nigeria’s coastal cities. A cross-sectional design was employed, combining quantitative surveys of construction workers (n = 1,400) with qualitative interviews of 35 managers and supervisors. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS version 28, while thematic analysis was applied to qualitative responses. Findings revealed a generally positive perception of OHSM, with 54.4% of workers rating OHS policy effectiveness as “Good” and 52.0% rating health outcomes as “Good.” However, accident frequency remained a concern, with 46.4% reporting accidents occurred “Occasionally” and 31.9% acknowledging them as “Frequent” or “Very Frequent.” Comparative analysis showed indigenous firms were rated higher in policy effectiveness and health outcomes but also reported slightly higher accident frequencies than international firms. Thematic analysis identified five key monitoring and evaluation strategies including routine inspections, regular training, audits, behavioural reinforcement, and access control, Also, five measures of OHSM effectiveness, including compliance observation, incident tracking, KPIs, employee feedback, and benchmarking. OHSM was found to positively influence project outcomes by reducing compensation costs, enhancing reputation, and improving supervision and quality of work. OHSM practices in Nigeria’s construction sector are perceived as effective in policy and health outcomes, yet accident rates remain a critical challenge. The study underscores the importance of continuous training, stricter enforcement, behavioural reinforcement, and systematic performance evaluation.

This study proposes an integrated approach combining geographic information systems (GIS) and geotechnical analyses to assess the stability of the Oued Ayda mountain lake dam, located in the Siliana Governorate, northwestern Tunisia. The mechanical properties of the embankment and foundation materials were integrated into a Mohr-Coulomb geomechanical model, while the pore water pressure distribution was simulated for various representative hydromechanical scenarios: end of construction, normal operation, rapid drainage, and short- and long-term empty reservoir conditions. The stability analysis, performed using the Morgenstern-Price method with the SLOPE/W software (GeoStudio), reveals high safety factors on the upstream side (SF > 3 in the short term and SF ≥ 2 in the long term), indicating good resistance of this slope to hydraulic and mechanical stresses. Conversely, the results show that the downstream slope exhibits significantly lower safety factors, ranging from 1.335 to 1.338 under long-term conditions, particularly during normal operating and rapid drainage scenarios. These reduced values indicate a high vulnerability of this slope to persistent saturation and adverse hydraulic gradients. In conclusion, although the dam exhibits satisfactory overall stability, the downstream slope remains the most vulnerable area of the structure. The results underscore the need for rigorous management of water level fluctuations and suggest reinforcing the drainage system or implementing targeted stabilization measures to ensure the long-term safety and durability of the structure.

This study addresses the critical challenge of material scarcity within Ghana’s creative industries by pioneering the synthesis of professional-grade stage blood from indigenous, locally-sourced materials. In the context of Ghanaian theatre and film, practitioners face significant barriers due to the high cost and limited availability of imported special effects products, often resulting in the use of inadequate substitutes that compromise aesthetic realism, safety, and narrative authenticity. This paper responds by exploring the potential of cassava starch, tapioca, kenkey dough, and fufu wax. Grounded in Schumacher’s theory of Appropriate Technology, the paper reframes indigenous resources not as inferior alternatives but as technologically and contextually appropriate solutions that align with Ghana’s economic, environmental, and social realities. The study provides detailed, reproducible recipes for both flowing and clotted blood variants, validated through practical application in simulated special effects such as gunshot wounds and deep-tissue scars. These formulations meet key performance criteria: visual fidelity under theatrical and cinematic conditions, controlled viscosity, ease of application and removal, and performer safety. Beyond technical innovation, this research contributes to shifting academic and professional discourse from dependency and scarcity toward resourcefulness, sustainability, and artistic self-reliance. It offers a practical framework for reducing production costs, enhancing the quality of visual storytelling, and fostering local value chains within Ghana’s growing creative economy.

Application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for Enhancing Safety and Environmental Performance on Construction Sites in Nigeria

Background: Building Information Modelling (BIM) improves safety planning in construction by enabling visualization and simulation to identify and reduce risks. However, its adoption in Nigeria is limited. This study examines the application of BIM in enhancing safety and environmental performance on construction sites in Nigeria. Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted using a structured online questionnaire distributed to professionals in Nigeria’s construction industry. A purposive sampling method was employed to target respondents with relevant BIM experience. Data were analysed using SPSS version 28, applying descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression at a 5% significance level. Result: Findings show that BIM was fully adopted by 7.0% of organizations, with only 19.8% of respondents using it to identify safety hazards during planning. While 76.8% reported no notable safety benefit, 19.5% identified improved risk management as the key benefit. Most respondents (80.2%) reported no noticeable environmental benefits. Among those who did, improved energy efficiency was the most cited benefit (16.4%). Respondents with 10 or more years of experience were significantly more likely to report enhanced safety and environmental outcomes (AOR = 4.555; p = 0.003) and adequate BIM utilization (AOR = 3.255; p = 0.023). Those with intermediate BIM experience were also more likely to report high enhancement (AOR = 2.857; p = 0.039) and effective tool use (AOR = 2.881; p = 0.050). Conclusion: This study revealed that BIM has the potential to improve construction outcomes in Nigeria if supported by training, experience, and structured implementation.

Background: Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use among adolescents is a growing public health concern, particularly in low-income and Black communities. However, little is known about how social determinants of health shape e-cigarette perceptions in this population. Aims: This study examined social determinants associated with perceptions of e-cigarette safety among Baltimore high school students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey (CEASE Youth: School Survey) was conducted with 604 Baltimore high school students aged 14–20. Participants completed a questionnaire assessing perceptions of e-cigarette safety, as well as parental education, race/ethnicity, parental employment, household composition, and community tobacco use. Results: Higher parental education was associated with lower perceived e-cigarette safety among students. Students in higher grades also reported lower perceived e-cigarette safety. In contrast, male students—particularly those in upper grades—were more likely to perceive e-cigarettes as safe. Race/ethnicity, household composition, parental employment, and community tobacco exposure were not associated with perceived e-cigarette safety. Conclusion: Higher parental education, female gender, and being in higher grades were associated with perceiving e-cigarettes as unsafe. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to address vaping perceptions among youth in urban settings.

This paper explores the evolution and impact of ERP systems within the pharmaceutical sector, highlighting their contributions to overcoming the industry’s inherent challenges, including complex regulatory requirements, the need for accurate and real-time data, and the demand for supply chain resilience. The integration of cloud-based ERP solutions, the incorporation of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT), and enhanced data analytics capabilities have revolutionized pharmaceutical IT. These advancements not only reduce operational costs, improve forecasting accuracy, and enhance collaboration but also ensure compliance with stringent global regulations, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and FDA guidelines. Moreover, ERP systems have been instrumental in managing the pharmaceutical supply chain, ensuring product traceability, and improving inventory control and order fulfillment processes. This manuscript examines how ERP systems enable pharmaceutical companies to maintain high standards of product quality, improve decision-making, and ensure the safety and efficacy of drugs through robust tracking and auditing mechanisms. A case study of a pharmaceutical company that implemented an ERP system demonstrates the tangible benefits, including increased operational efficiency, improved compliance rates, and enhanced customer satisfaction. However, despite the clear advantages, challenges such as customization complexities, data integration issues, and resistance to change remain. As the pharmaceutical industry continues to evolve, ERP systems will remain a cornerstone of digital transformation, facilitating smarter decision-making, better resource management, and enhanced collaboration across global operations. This paper also identifies future trends, including the potential of AI and blockchain technologies in further strengthening ERP systems and transforming the pharmaceutical landscape.

Comprehensive Review of Conservative and Surgical Treatment Strategies for Knee Osteoarthritis: Efficacy, Safety, and Emerging Therapies

Abstract Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic degenerative joint disorder that significantly impairs mobility and quality of life. While surgical interventions such as total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are effective in severe cases, conservative treatments are critical for early and intermediate disease management. Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic degenerative joint disorder that significantly impairs mobility and quality of life. While surgical interventions such as total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are effective in severe cases, conservative treatments are critical for early and intermediate disease management. This review evaluates the efficacy, safety, and clinical applications of both conservative and surgical treatment approaches, including lifestyle modifications, physical therapy, pharmacological interventions, regenerative medicine, and surgical procedures. In today’s world of a globalized economy and ubiquitous digital transactions, businesses are hungry for ways to increase transaction efficiency and security. In the real economy, solutions that scale to fit transaction volume or velocity are equally valuable. This is true for clearing and settlement and for the day-to-day needs of buyers and sellers alike. Clever observers of both cash and digital transactions can spot cases where technology that supports transaction security or safety can strengthen consumer-borrower ties, mitigate default risks, and reduce recidivism. In general, a cloud solution for payment processing and merchant services solves two major barriers to optimum business technology: lack of scalability and lack of security [1]. The extension of current practice has its advantages, but new solutions unlock significant opportunities for both consumers and financial institutions [2]. The focus of this work is on the provisioning of cloud-based payment processing and merchant services to financial institutions and established global organizations, although the options available with these services mean they are potentially applicable to a wide range of group entities, including non-trading organizations, pension administrators, and group treasurers. With the increased attention to cybersecurity, a mass of data is available to assist the IT departments of the major payment processors, merchants, and acquirers to get cybersecurity on the radar of C-level executives [3]. The case is put forward for the increased targeting of and reporting to the Board’s Audit, Risk, and Liability Committees of publicly held payment processors and merchants to reduce fraud losses and mitigate the reputation and class action lawsuit risk due to data breaches. The progress of technology in the payment sector requires all stakeholders to have a collective approach in order to mitigate fraud and cybersecurity-related risks in new products and services to enhance consumer confidence and the proportion of retail cashless transactions [4].

This process provides unprecedented transparency, enhances product security, and facilitates real-time monitoring of pharmaceutical products as they move from manufacturers to end consumers. Despite its potential to revolutionize pharmaceutical traceability, the integration of serialization technologies faces numerous obstacles. These include high implementation costs, regulatory inconsistencies across regions, and the technological challenges of managing vast amounts of data. Moreover, the complex, multi-tiered nature of the global supply chain introduces additional risks related to data integrity, cybersecurity, and interoperability between systems. As pharmaceutical companies seek to navigate these challenges, innovations in serialization technology—such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and radio frequency identification (RFID)—are providing promising solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce fraud, and increase visibility. The study aimed to examine the availability of protective clothing and its usage among workers at the University of Cape Coast in the central region of Ghana. It used the Accident-Proneness Theory and the Theory of Reasoned Action to achieve the study's objectives. The study adopted the positivist research paradigm. The study used a descriptive design with mixed methods. The study population comprised all workers and supervisors whose work demands the use of protective clothing at the University of Cape Coast. The study used multistage sampling techniques (stratified, purposive, proportional and Systematic random sampling techniques) to select one hundred and ninety-six departmental workers and five (5) supervisors in the University. The main instruments for data collection were a Semi-structured questionnaire and an unstructured interview guide. Mean and standard deviation, frequency count, and percentages were used to analyse the quantitative data. The qualitative data was analysed through the development of data categories and themes. The study concluded that “not all the protective clothing for the various departments were available. The University ensured that workers used what was in stock at the department. The protective clothing supplied to the various departments was insufficient, so their continuous use of the existing ones got them defaced, bringing about shortages. The study also revealed that workers used protective clothing most often, but not all used it because safety laws were relaxed. The study recommended that the University ensure a regular and adequate supply of PPC, insist on its usage, and enforce the use of PPC by all workers whose work demands it.

Objective: This study explores the relationship between neighborhood stress and Body Mass Index (BMI) in adolescents, while also examining whether this association differs between Black and White adolescents. Methods: Data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study were analyzed using linear regression models to examine the association between neighborhood stress (defined as a composite score based on three items measuring perceived safety and neighborhood fear) and BMI in adolescents, controlling for demographic and socioeconomic variables. We tested models both with and without interaction terms to assess whether race moderated the association. Stratified analyses were conducted to further explore potential differences between Black and White adolescents. Results: A positive association was observed between neighborhood stress and BMI across the overall sample. However, this association was weaker for Black adolescents compared to White adolescents, even after adjusting for potential confounders. Conclusions: The contribution of neighborhood stress to higher BMI in adolescents may vary by race. Our findings suggest that while neighborhood stress is associated with increased BMI, Black adolescents appear to be less affected by these stressors than their White peers. This weaker association could be due to the normalization of stress in environments where it is pervasive (what is common becomes normal) or the presence of other significant risk factors affecting BMI in Black youth, such as poverty, limited food access, food culture, and food deserts. Future research should explore processes of habituation, inoculation, or even sensitization to stress among Black populations, who are often exposed to a wide range of stressors throughout the life course.

Regulatory compliance remains a significant concern due to the stringent guidelines imposed by authorities such as the FDA and EMA, which can lead to increased operational costs and time delays. Additionally, traditional demand forecasting methods often fail to accurately predict fluctuations in drug demand, resulting in stockouts or excess inventory. Limited supply chain visibility further complicates these challenges, hindering timely decision-making and operational efficiency. Quality assurance is paramount, as maintaining the integrity of pharmaceutical products throughout the supply chain is crucial to preventing costly recalls and ensuring patient safety. Moreover, the globalization of supply chains introduces vulnerabilities to geopolitical risks, trade disputes, and natural disasters. Quality and Safety of Folded Vermicelli Produced by the Small-scale Processors in Tanga City, Tanzania

Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the quality and safety of folded vermicelli produced by the small-scale processors in Tanzania. Samples of 1 kg folded vermicelli were collected from 14 processing companies, by the intentional cluster sampling technique. The samples were analysed for aflatoxin and microbiological (Escherichia coli, Aspergillus flavus, and Aspergillus parasiticus) quality. Moreover, physico-chemical quality was assessed in terms of diameter by using a digital calliper, moisture content by oven-drying method at 110℃± 5℃, breaking strength by the texture analyzer, and colour by colourimeter (Chroma Meter CR-400) of the collected samples were determined. The samples indicated low breaking strength with levels between 6.79x105 N.m-2 to 3.75x106 N.m-2 in 11/14 samples. The result of brightness (L*) were between 53.03 to 72.14 and yellowness (b*) between 13.68 to 19.48 indices, indicating that there was no significant difference at the 5% level, respectively, although 2/14 samples had red (a*) colour values (-1.32 – +0.56). However, 4/14 samples were detected with aflatoxin B1 (0.60-0.70 μg.kg-1), they are within the recommended level (5 μg.kg-1). The study underscores the need for concerted efforts to enhance production and hygiene practices to ensure consistent compliance with quality and safety standards.

Handling Practices of Folded Vermicelli by Small-scale Processors in Tanga City, Tanzania

This study assessed the handling and processing practices of 30 small-scale folded vermicelli processors in Tanga, specifically in urban areas of Tanga City, Tanzania. However, the micro- and small-scale processors were producing in unhygienic way because they are lacking facilities and equipment to process and handle the product hygienically. Multistage sampling design was adopted for this study and face-to-face interviews were conducted to collect data from all processing units through nine streets using semi-structured questionnaires and observation checklists. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences, where the statistics aspect was determined from the results obtained. The processors found across various streets (ranging from 3.3% in Kwaminchi Street to 23.3% in Mabawa Street), exhibited diverse demographics, with 53.3% being owner-operators and 40% and 6.7% in labourer and supervisor roles, respectively. A significant portion (53.3%) had 1-3 years of experience, and a small portion (10%) attended formal training in pasta processing. Despite 73.3% possessing food manufacturing licenses, many were unfamiliar with legal requirements, lacking documentation and standardized processes, raising concerns about food safety. Raw materials were sourced locally, but 56.7% lacked storage facilities. Hygienic practices varied, with 43.3% undergoing periodic medical check-ups, 70% using protective gear, and 60% had hand washing facilities. Sun drying was the sole method employed, with 86.7% placed drying trays on rooftops. Packaging practices raised concerns, as 93.3% reused woven polypropylene bags, potentially impacting product quality. Awareness of aflatoxin and its health implications was lacking in 90% of the processors. Overall, the study highlighted gaps in awareness, training, and adherence to standards among processors, posing potential risks to food safety and quality. Encourage them to adhere with Tanzania Bureau of Standards requirements and formalize their quality control practices.

This study aimed to assess the proximate composition, microbial quality, and sensory acceptability of canned Bambara beans in Ghana to determine their nutritional value and consumer perceptions. The research was conducted in Tamale in the northern region of Ghana, focusing on sensory evaluation, nutritional analysis, and consumer preferences for canned Bambara beans. The study utilized canned Bambara bean varieties sourced from local markets in Ghana. It involved sensory panels, proximate analysis, and microbial testing to evaluate the quality and safety of the canned products. Data analysis included sensory scoring, proximate composition determination, and microbial count assessments. The findings indicated positive consumer attitudes towards canned Bambara beans, emphasising their convenience, nutritional richness, and sensory appeal. Nutritional analysis revealed the nutrient content of the canned beans, highlighting their potential as a nutritious food source. Conclusions emphasised the importance of sensory attributes in consumer acceptance and women's role in producing and promoting Bambara beans. It is recommended that Increase awareness among consumers, especially women and homemakers, about the nutritional benefits and culinary versatility of canned Bambara beans. Educational campaigns highlighting canned Bambara beans' health advantages and convenience can encourage their inclusion in household diets. It is also recommended that women involved in the production and processing of Bambara beans should be supported and empowered through training, capacity building, and access to resources. Recognising the pivotal role of women in the Bambara bean value chain is essential for sustainable production practices and economic empowerment.

The goal is to make accurate predictions close to the failure time to provide early warnings. J S Grewal and J. Grewal provide a comprehensive definition of RUL in their paper "The Kalman Filter approach to RUL estimation." A process is a quadruple (XU f P), where X is the state space, U is the control space, P is the set of possible paths, and f represents the transition between states. The purpose of this study was to examine people’s knowledge base on Burkina beverages in Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana. The study employed a Mixed Sequential Explanatory research approach. The population for the study were dairy consumers living in Winneba. The Krejcie and Morgan table in 1970 was used to determine the 381 sample size of this study. The study employed the purposive, convenient and simple random sampling technique to select 100 out of 381 respondents for the study. The instrument employed in this study was a semi-structured interview guide to generate responses on people’s knowledge of “Burkina”. An Independent t-test was used to test the null hypothesis raised at a 0.05 level of significance. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that respondents have substantial knowledge of “Burkina”. Street-sold “Burkina” can be modified using flavours and other cereals. Fresh milk must be pasteurized before using it for “Burkina”, well packaged, and sold in a hygienic condition. Certain factors such as packaging, environment, food safety, price, variation in thickness and flavours influence the rate of consumption of the “Burkina”. ‘‘Burkina’’ prepared with corn agglomerates had improved physicochemical attributes and health benefits. It is recommended that Food and Drug Authority representatives in winneba should regulate the “Burkina” samples on the Winneba market to ensure they are nutritious and, prepared and sold under hygienic conditions. It is again recommended that researchers develop ‘‘Burkina’’ with several flavour options and other cereals and test for consumer acceptability.

During delivery and storage, the packaging may come into direct or indirect contact with the drug product or medical device, which may result in chemical interactions between the two. Packaging can be crucial for success, protection, and sale. Like other supermarket items, prescription pharmaceuticals must be packaged in a way that will meet the needs of security and provide speedy packaging, safety, identity, superiority of products, patient safety, and goods superiority. Packaging is a science and an art where many factors are taken into account, starting with the fundamental design and technology used to pack the product without any instability and providing protection, presentation and observance of manufactured goods during transportation, storage, and consumption. In order to keep the drug physiochemical, biological, and chemical stability, packaging professionals create containers that can withstand the pressures that are applied during the supply and shipping processes. Improvements in the analysis of prescription drug development had long been fixated on packaging expertise.

For conducting advanced analytics initiatives to acquire in-depth data into usage habits, regional access, sales, and promotional success, etc., unique identification of packaged pharmaceuticals will be a fantastic enabler. The main objective of this study is to prevent and reduce the production of erroneous and counterfeit drugs using the enterprise system, which has become a serious threat because it damages the reputation of legitimate drug manufacturers by trying to produce and market placebo medications that are identical to the real thing. Due to federal government procedures and priorities that frequently change over time, the majority of implementation takes time. To achieve compliance with numerous federal regulatory authorities, including drug traceability for patient safety, the pharmaceutical industry must implement a systematic procedure in an ERP environment. The goals would be to guarantee medical drug traceability and provide real-time warnings to supply chain stakeholders and regulatory bodies to maximize the benefit of integrating a drug traceability system into an ERP environment. Additionally, manufacturers are compelled to maintain product costs on the higher side due to a heavy burden of unchecked manufacturing cost spikes. As a result, innovative marketing schemes must be introduced in order to increase the reach to consumers by putting into practice successful strategies.

The supervisory role of kindergarten teachers is primarily concerned with supervising and managing the efforts of their learning environment to create safe, positive learning environments for all learners. The purpose of this study was to assess teachers’ supervisory practices of learners in Kindergarten schools in Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem municipality. (K.E.E.A) Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. The study employed the qualitative research approach using the interpretivism paradigm. The instrumental case study design was adopted for this study. Population of the study comprised public kindergarten schools in KEEA Municipality. A multi-stage purposeful random sampling technique was used to select sixteen (16) respondents for the study. The semi-structured interview and observation checklist were the main instruments employed in the data collection for this study. The qualitative data was analysed by the use of the interpretative method based on the themes arrived at during the data collection. The themes were related to the research question and interpreted on the number of issues raised by respondents. These were based on question on the semi-structured interview. The study indicated that, kindergarten teachers do not supervise their learners during out-door activities or at playground, thinking it is the available time to relax after learners are out to play. The study also revealed that, kindergarten teachers do not pay close attention to learners and their physical environment to detect danger and threats. Also, in relation to proximity in supervision, the study found that, kindergarten teachers do not maintain physical closeness supervision of their learners to promptly salvage them from occurring danger during supervision. It is recommended that, the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ghana Education Service (GES), and other Agencies in Education (AiE) should strategically and periodically organize workshop trainings and seminars on teacher supervision and safety for kindergarten teachers. It is also recommended that, Tertiary institutions like the teaching universities and colleges of education should mount courses specifically for Teachers Supervision and School Safety for pre-service teachers and school administrators.

The study examined consumers’ Awareness in food hygiene and food borne diseases in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The research design for the study was a descriptive survey. The population of the study consists of one hundred (100) consumers. Convenience sampling technique was used to select seventy (70) consumers from the licensed food vendors and thirty (30) consumers from the unlicensed food vendors. Questionnaire was the main instrument for the study. The questionnaire had both open ended and close ended questions was on the consumers’ knowledge and perceptions on food borne diseases and the safety of foods. Data gathered checked, edited, coded, processed and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17. The study concluded that the consumers of vended foods have some knowledge of food hygiene and food borne diseases; however, they ignore the health hazards associated with poor food handling by food vendors and go ahead to patronize the food the vendors provide. The study also indicated consumers patronized street foods because prices were moderate as compared to the formal establishments and ignore the unhygienic conditions at the vending sites. The correlation analysis shows further that consumers patronage (r=-0.095) had negative and non-significant relationship with food handling practices. It is recommended that Consumers of vended foods should be educated to help improve upon their knowledge in food hygiene and food borne diseases to enable them make informed choices and also prompt regulatory bodies such as the environmental health officers on unacceptable food handling practices of food vendors. It is also recommended The Metropolitan/Municipal/District environmental health officers should ensure that inspection of street food vendors are carried out effectively, efficiently and regularly so as to monitor the food handling practices of the food vendors’ right from the time of preparation to the point of sale.

The supervisory role of kindergarten teachers is primarily concerned with supervising and managing the efforts of their learning environment to create safe, positive learning environments for all learners, as well as ensuring that no child is left alone or unsupervised by teachers or caregivers while under their supervision. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of teachers’ supervision on the safety of kindergarten pupils in Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (K.E.E.A.) Municipality in the central region of Ghana. Qualitatively, the Instrumental Case Study Design was employed in this study to gather information on the participants. The population consisted of 227 Kindergarten teachers in the KEEA Municipality of Ghana. Convenience sampling technique was used to select sixteen (16) public kindergarten teachers for the study. The main instrument used for data collection was semi-structured interview guide. The data were analyzed thematically. The analysis of the data was done with the help of online qualitative software, Taguette version 1.3, Using the Taguette, the researchers highlighted quotes and phrases from the interviews that were significant to the study. The study supported that, establishing a well-conducive school environment enhance teachers’ supervision which goes a long way to ensures learners’ comfortability and safety; maximize learners’ academic performance; lessen fear in learners; promote teaching and learning; and support learners’ participation in play experiences. It is recommended that, key players in education such as Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service should investigate the effect of teacher supervision on learners’ safety vis-a-vis with its educational implications. It is also recommended that, kindergarten teachers should be encouraged to supervise their learners to guarantee positive outcomes of promoting learners’ comfortability and safety; maximizing learners’ academic performance; promoting teaching and learning; and contributing to support learners’ participation in play experiences.

The purpose of this study was to assess safety conditions of learners in Kindergarten schools in Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (K.E.E.A) Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. The qualitative research approach and the Instrumental Case Study Design were adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised public kindergarten teachers and schools in Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. Convenient and purposive sampling techniques were used to select sixteen (16) public kindergarten teachers and eight (8) kindergarten schools for the study. The semi-structured interview and observation checklist were the instruments utilized in the data collection for this study. The data were analysed and interpreted thematically using online qualitative software, Taguette version 1.3. The study indicated that, most kindergarten school buildings in the KEEA municipality pose threats to both learners and teachers as result of over-aged or poorly constructed buildings and isolated and bushy environment which attracts animals like lizards, wall geckos and poisonous snakes and psychological and emotional threat to both teachers and learners. It is recommended that, the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service should set up a School Supervision for Safety Department (SSSD) to control and oversee safety issues in the kindergarten schools in Ghana. The School Supervision for Safety Department should create awareness advocacy for school safety so that school safety becomes a nationwide concern. It is also recommended that, the School Supervision for Safety Department must liaise with other stakeholders to enforce frequent assessment of school buildings, infrastructure and materials for safety.

Artificial intelligence (AI) based triage and diagnostic systems are increasingly being used in healthcare. Although these online tools can improve patient care, their reliability and accuracy remain variable. We hypothesized that an artificial intelligence (AI) powered triage and diagnostic system (MayaMD) would compare favorably with human doctors with respect to triage and diagnostic accuracy. We performed a prospective validation study of the accuracy and safety of an AI powered triage and diagnostic system. Identical cases were evaluated by an AI system and individual Indian healthcare practitioners (HCPs) to draw comparison for accuracy and safety. The same cases were validated with the help of consensus received from an expert panel of 3 doctors. These cases in the form of clinical vignettes were provided by an expert medical team. Overall, the study showed that the MayaMD AI based platform for virtual triage was able to recommend the most appropriate triage ensuring patient safety. In fact, the accuracy of triage recommendation by MayaMD was significantly better than that provided by individual HCPs (74% vs. 91.67%, p=0.04) with consensus being used as standard.

This research intends to achieve the following objectives; To assess the noise emitted during the moulding of various types of blocks, to determine the level of vibration induced to workers of block moulders during activities and to determine the effect of noise and vibration on workers. The following materials and equipment were used; QT40B manual block moulding machine, LM2-45 Mobile Block moulding Machine, Lister powered block moulding machine, QTJ4-40 block moulding machine using 9 and 6 inches Plates, Vibrometer and Noise monitor. The workers were exposed to noise levels above 75dB and vibration levels above 5ms-2 set as upper limit values in the Directive 44/EC from 2002 – on the Minimum Health and safety Requirements Regarding to Exposure of Workers to the Risk Arising from Physical Agents Vibration.

The heart remained a mystery for many years and was considered surgically untouchable. With the use of extracorporeal circulation, there has been a revolution in this area. Due to its mechanical components and interactions with blood, cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can cause significant changes in the body. Factors such as contact between artificial materials and blood, continuous flow, hemodilution, hypothermia and anticoagulation affect all organs during CPB, and may result in various complications. The minimally invasive extracorporeal circulation (MiECC) system was developed to minimize the contact of blood with air and foreign surfaces during conventional CPB. In addition, the biocompatibility of the components that make up the MiECC circuits increased, which reduced the inflammatory response. The absence of a venous reservoir and shorter lines allow the prime volume to be used to decrease, which also reduces the damage to the blood elements, and consequently, the need for blood transfusion. The MiECC system also has its downsides, the most important one being the difficulty in removing the air that can enter through the venous line, the impairment of the pump function, and embolization. During the use of these systems, perfusion safety and communication with the whole team must be at the highest level. In line with this information, the use of these systems can become standard in cardiac surgery with new technological additions.

COVID-19 demonstrated a global catastrophe that touched everybody, including the scientific community. As we respond and recover rapidly from this pandemic, there is an opportunity to guarantee that the fabric of our society includes sustainability, fairness, and care. However, approaches to environmental health attempt to decrease the populations burden of COVID-19, toward saving patients from becoming ill along with preserving the allocation of clinical resources and public safety standards. This paper explores environmental and public health evidence-based practices toward responding to Covid-19. A literature review tried to do a deep dive through the use of various search engines such as Mendeley, Research Gate, CAB Abstract, Google Scholar, Summon, PubMed, Scopus, Hinari, Dimension, OARE Abstract, SSRN, Academia search strategy toward retrieving research publications, “grey literature” as well as reports from expert working groups. To achieve enhanced population health, it is recommended to adopt widespread evidence-based strategies, particularly in this uncertain time. As only together can evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) can become a reality which include effective policies and practices, transparency and accountability of decisions, and equity outcomes; these are all more relevant in resource-constrained contexts, such as Nigeria. Effective and ethical EIDM though requires the production as well as use of high-quality evidence that are timely, appropriate and structured. One way to do so is through co-production. Co-production (or co-creation or co-design) of environmental/public health evidence considered as a key tool for addressing complex global crises such as the high risk of severe COVID-19 in different nations. A significant evidence-based component of environmental/public health (EBEPH) consist of decisions making based on best accessible, evidence that is peer-reviewed; using data as well as systematic information systems; community engagement in policy making; conducting sound evaluation; do a thorough program-planning frameworks; as well as disseminating what is being learned. As researchers, scientists, statisticians, journal editors, practitioners, as well as decision makers strive to improve population health, having a natural tendency toward scrutinizing the scientific literature aimed at novel research findings serving as the foundation for intervention as well as prevention programs. The main inspiration behind conducting research ought to be toward stimulating and collaborating appropriately on public/environmental health action. The unrelenting proliferation of data, entwined with the prevalence of mobile devices, has given birth to an unprecedented growth of information obscured by noise. With the Internet of Things and myriad endpoint devices generating vast volumes of sensitive and critical data, organizations are tasked with extracting actionable intelligence from this deluge. Governments and enterprises alike, even under pressure from regulatory boards, have strived to harness the power of data and leverage it to enhance safety and security, maximize performance, and mitigate risks. However, the adversaries themselves have capitalized on the unequal battle of big data and artificial intelligence to inflict widespread chaos. Therefore, the demand for big data analytics and AI/ML for high-fidelity intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance is at its highest. Today, in the cybersecurity realm, the detection of adverse incidents poses substantial challenges due to the sheer variety, volume, and velocity of deep packet inspection data. State-of-the-art detection techniques have fallen short of detecting the latest attacks after a big data breach incident. On the other hand, computational intelligence techniques such as machine learning have reignited the search for solutions for diverse monitoring problems. Recent advancements in AI/ML frameworks have the potential to analyze IoT/edge-generated big data in near real-time and assist risk assessment and mitigation through automated threat detection and modeling in the big data and AI/ML domain. Industry best practices and case studies are examined that endeavor to showcase how big data coupled with AI/ML unlocks new dimensions and capabilities in improved vigilance and monitoring, prediction of adverse incidents, intelligent modeling, and future uncertainty quantification by data resampling correction. All of these avenues lead to enhanced robustness, security, safety, and performance of industrial processes, computing, and infrastructures. A view of the future and how the potential threats due to the misuse of new technologies from bandwidth to IoT/edge, blockchain, AI, quantum, and autonomous fields is discussed. Cybersecurity is again playing out at a pace set by adversaries with low entry barriers and debilitating tools. Leveraging AI in Urban Traffic Management: Addressing Congestion and Traffic Flow with Intelligent Systems

Traffic congestion across the globe is a multimodal problem, intertwining vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. The relationship between the multimodal traffic flow is a key factor in understanding urban traffic dynamics. The impact of excessive congestion extends to the excessive cost spent on traffic maintenance, as well as the inherent transportation inefficiency and delayed travel times. From an urban transportation standpoint, an immediate consideration on one hand is monitoring traffic conditions and demand cycles, while on the other hand inducing flow modifications that benefit the traffic network and mitigate congestion. Embedded and centralized control systems that characterize modern traffic management systems extract traffic conditions specific to their regions but lack communication between networks. Moreover, innovative methods are required to provide more accurate up-to-date traffic forecasts that characterize real-world traffic dynamics and facilitate optimal traffic management decisions. In this chapter, we briefly outline the main difficulties and complexities in modeling, managing, and forecasting traffic dynamics. We also compare various conventional and modern Intelligent Transportation Strategies in terms of accuracy and applicability, their performance, and potential opportunities for optimization of multimodal traffic flow and congestion reduction. This chapter introduces various proposed data-driven models and tools employed for traffic flow prediction and management, investigating specific strategies' strengths, weaknesses, and benefits in addressing various real-world traffic management problems. We describe that the design phase of dependable Intelligent Transportation Systems bears unique requirements in terms of the robustness, safety, and response times of their components and the encompassing system model. Furthermore, this architectural blueprint shares similarities with distributed coordinate searching and collective adaptive systems. Town size-independent models induce systemic performance improvements through reconfigurable embedded functionality. These AI techniques feature elaborate anytime planner-engagers ensuring near-optimal performances in an unbiased behavior when the model complexity is varied. Sustainable models minimize congestion during peaks, flooding, and emergency occurrences as they adhere to area-specific regulations. Security-aware and fail-safe traffic management systems relinquish reasonable assurances of persistent operation under various environmental settings, to acknowledge metropolis and complex traffic junctions. The chapter concludes by outlining challenges, research questions, and future research paths in the field of transportation management.

The equipment used in the construction industry is usually associated with a high impact on the environment. Although sustainable design has shown to be a main player among the initiatives focused on reducing environmental impact, it has been driven by the workers and processes, leaving the equipment endeavors in more restrictive and later stages. The equipment industry has been a constant target of environmental standards and economic pressure, but the increasing technological development allows it to respond to sustainability and safety expectations while enhancing its performance. However, there are still several limitations that lead this sector to be one of the last to reach upgrading levels in terms of development. A study identified some gaps in the equipment design that require a greater effort to effectively support the workers and companies towards sustainable construction. This chapter is based on a study aiming to understand the consolidated knowledge of technologically sustainable equipment design and to identify the challenges left for its full development. The findings support the development of innovative eco-friendly equipment, taking into consideration sustainable materials and product guidelines, as well as green economy initiatives. It also supports complex system approaches and safety by design specificities to establish a corporate knowledge of sustainable equipment and align it with the new regulations of the construction industry. The chapter introduces the context of construction equipment in terms of new challenges when faced with the need to provide construction work with a greater capacity for safety, from an environmental and energy efficiency perspective, and within the paradigm of sustainability. Then, it presents the concept of sustainable equipment considering its principles, followed by a characterization of the agents involved in its life cycle.

The growth in demand for rail transportation systems within cities, together with high-speed and long-distance transportation running on a rail network, raises the issues of both rail safety and security. If an accident or an attack occurs, its consequences can be extremely severe. To mitigate the impact of these events, the real-time monitoring of a rail system is required. In that case, the improvements in monitoring can be achieved using artificial intelligence algorithms such as neural networks. Neural networks have been used to achieve real-time incident identification in monitoring the track quality in terms of classifying the graphical outputs of an ultrasonic system working with the rails and track bed, to predict incidents on the rail infrastructure due to transmission channels becoming blocked, and also to attempt scheduling preemptive and preventative maintenance. In terms of forecasting incidents and accidents on board the trains, neural networks have been used to model passenger behavior and optimize responses during a train station evacuation. In tackling the incidents and accidents occurring on rail transport, we contribute with two methodologies to detect anomalies in real-time and identify the level of security risk: at the maintenance level with personnel operating along the railways, and onboard passenger trains. These methodologies were evaluated on real-world datasets and shown to be able to achieve a high accuracy in the results. The results generated from these case studies also reveal the potential for network-wide applications, which could enhance security and safety on railway networks by offering the possibility of better managing network disruptions and more rapidly identifying security issues. The speed and coverage of the information generated through the implementation of these methodologies have implications in utilizing prediction for decision support and enhancing safety and security on board the rail network.

The global pharmaceutical supply chain plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and safe delivery of medicines to patients worldwide. However, the increasing presence of counterfeit drugs within this supply chain poses a significant and growing risk to public health, patient safety, and the integrity of the pharmaceutical industry. Counterfeit drugs—medications that are fraudulently manufactured, mislabeled, or contain incorrect or harmful ingredients—are a major concern as they can lead to ineffective treatments, adverse health effects, and even death. Despite stringent regulatory frameworks and advanced technological solutions, counterfeit drugs continue to infiltrate legitimate supply chains due to factors such as the complexity of the distribution system, global trade practices, and inadequate enforcement in certain regions. This manuscript explores the primary causes behind the proliferation of counterfeit drugs in pharmaceutical distribution, the associated risks, and the multifaceted approaches required to address this growing threat. This essay explores how AI can enhance clinical research and, particularly, its pivotal role in the development of medical devices. A data-driven approach to medical device development that can streamline regulatory compliance and quality assurance is discussed. Methods that generate insights from pre-stage data and utilize it during development are detailed. The effectiveness of this approach in compliance audits, 510(k) submissions, and quality system audits - reducing time, effort, and risks is analyzed. The findings are illustrated with practical examples and takeaway recommendations. When reading a scientific article, how many times have you judged the quality of the research by looking at the methodology section? Artificial intelligence algorithms can be developed with the most robust and innovative technology, but if they are not properly validated, they will be worthless in the eyes of regulatory authorities. Conversely, outdated and simplistic models can still gain regulatory clearance if robustness is effectively demonstrated. For better or worse, ethics, economics, and robustness are often sacrificed in the constant government struggle to keep up with the technological edge of AI development. The slow crawl of lawmakers is constant in every field. Automating small tasks can save time and reduce risks when playing catch-up with a changing regulatory framework so the rest of the AI development can continue uninhibitedly. This dives into using FDA open data to collaborate with a food and drug law company and develop several bottom-up initiatives that supply knowledge needed for regulatory compliance and quality systems development. Methods that input pre-stage data and output actionable insights as models are provided. By sharing these resources and advice as academic researchers, efficiency in streamlining processes is maximized, thereby letting more time and resources be allocated to the actual development [1].

This paper includes the impacts of the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and other emerging technologies in the vehicle production sector, digital connectivity, and sustainable transport system. Automated and intelligent transportation for safe, efficient, and sustainable transport systems will be stressed. Key factors to promote automated or connected vehicles including connected environment, integration of all transport modes, advanced cooperative systems, and policy enforcement will be discussed. This paper contains the Axiomatic Categorisation Framework (AFS) for the dynamic alignment in a collection of disparate functions in cyber-physical systems (CPS). Developed system is enhanced for breaking the rules within autonomous vehicles (AV). It means the human personal injury is inevitable while the vehicle does not do any rules. Especially in complicated traffic situations, many of the constraints are mutually exclusive, and there is no way to obey all of them at a time. Also, there is no way to ensure that the self-driving vehicle has priority in all situations [1]. Public distrust in AV systems has to be increased and the investment in this technology has to slow down. Instead, a human driver should be partially responsible for operation. The development of a driver-behavior assistant (DBA) system is proposed, which should be able to break the rules for the distances of such slow development. It is intended to be effective in non-deterministic situations while maintaining the safety of the AV and those involved in the event. A driver's actions would not only be acceptable as a driving strategy but also would be predictable, and therefore other road users could unambiguously react.

Advances in web-centric cloud computing have facilitated the establishment of an integrated cloud environment connecting a wide variety of clinical trial stakeholders. A web-centric cloud framework is proposed for real-time monitoring and risk prediction during clinical trials. The framework focuses on identifying relevant datasets, developing a data-management interface, and implementing machine-learning algorithms for data analysis. Detailed descriptions of the data-management interface and the machine-learning processes are provided, targeting active clinical trials with therapeutic uses in cancer. Demonstrations utilize publicly available clinical-trial data from the ClinicalTrials.gov repository. The real-time monitoring and risk prediction systems were assessed by developing five supervised-classification-machine-learning models for trial-status prediction and six unsupervised models for patient-safety-profile assessment, each representing a different phase of the clinical-trial process. All supervised models yielded high accuracy and area-under-the-curve values at the testing stage, while the unsupervised models demonstrated practical applicability. The results underscore the advantages of using the trial-status algorithm, the patient-safety-profile model, and the proposed framework for performing real-time monitoring and risk prediction of clinical trials.

The automation of IT Service Management (ITSM) workflows using explicit rules and data has been established for years. Domain-specific rule engines interpret rules written in declarative rule modelling languages and generate forwarding arrows to process event streams and support decision making. Such automation is augmented by rule-driven Quality Assurance for correctness, safety, and risk management. The service desk is the onshore base of an ITSM supply chain. An end-to-end incident response service resolves incidents using only onshore resources and employs back office teams to help with unresolvable incidents. The forward factories of rule-based automation for ticket processing service are identified. Several rule-based workflows in incident and change management have been published. Further glimpses of the future across all ITSM workflows are provided based on training in an online ITSM service with automated operations. Rule engines are specialised components that direct the processing of data flows according to pre-defined rules. Decision factories complement the more common event-driven rule engines. While event processing occurs below the polling frequency of the source, rules in decision factories are triggered based on the arrival of data. These factories are applied in ITSM for risk and safety evaluation and quality assurance. Rule-enriched architectures incorporate domain-specific modelling languages to ensure correctness with respect to qualitative quality attributes. Dedicated factories provide resilience, detect slack or over-utilisation, and offer point-in-time assurance and testing.

This paper leverages gene and cell therapy research in diverse disorders ranging from monogenic to infectious diseases to cancer and emerging breakthroughs, where one can harness individual genes or a synthetic gene sequence designed based on a shared molecular pattern in infected cells to better fight various disorders [1]. A pivotal task is to predict the performances of candidate gene therapies to guide clinical translational research using methods such as retrospective bioinformatic analyses. Implementing them to a large-scale gene therapy database reveals that it is feasible to construct and apply well-performing interpretable, supervised learning models [2]. Preliminary evidence of machine learning approaches' statistical significance helps clinicians and biomedical researchers, market participants, and regulatory and economic experts derive relevant, practical applications, thereby enhancing the deployment of gene therapy and genomics to achieve positive, long-term growth for humanity while alleviating the ongoing worldwide economic burden precipitated by prolonged and recurring diseases. Deploying machine learning techniques to accelerate gene and cell therapy drug development and trials shall also mitigate the existing obstacle of limited patient access to emerging, transformative medical innovations such as gene therapy due to skyrocketing prices, which often herald gene therapy products as the world's most expensive medicines [3]. Moreover, in preventing patients from accessing effective, life-saving genetic medicines, there commonly exists a multidimensional access gap encompassing the availability, affordability, and quality or acceptability of these clinical treatments. The ensuing substantial gap has repeatedly been documented and mainly emanates from differential institutional and socio-political choices around resource allocation at international and domestic levels [4]. Particularly, it is also due to the stringent licensure and regulatory approval processes underpinned by insufficient evidence for novel safety and clinical efficacy profiles for genetic therapies in multiple micro-local diagnoses and subpopulations. We believe that a higher likelihood of gene therapy adoption shall result when the clinical evidence path contains adequate representation from the most diverse and relevant patient populations [5].
