Assessment of the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Sokoine University Students Regarding Endocrine Disruptors Coming from Plastic Chemicals

Objective: The knowledge, attitudes, and practices of SUA students about the use of plastics containing endocrine disruptors were investigated in this study. Methodology: A study with 150 participants was conducted to assess individuals' knowledge about endocrine disruptors, attitudes, and plastic use practices. Results: The findings indicate that the participants possessed an average degree of knowledge 50.2 ± 3.85 with the main emphasis of awareness being generic concepts rather than specific substances. Regarding the potential health impacts of endocrine-disrupting chemicals present in plastics, respondents' attitudes ranged from fair to positive, with a mean score of 3.5 ±0.09 indicating a fair attitude overall. Conclusion: It is important to practice polite behavior and increase public awareness of safe plastic disposal methods. Surprising only 38.0% of the participants mentioned that they refrain from heating their food in plastic containers to reduce their exposure to plastics. Students' practices revealed a notable dependence on plastic products despite their awareness of the concerns surrounding endocrine disruptors, as most of them reported using plastic water bottles, plastic cups, and plastic bags almost always. Additionally, only 20.7% of the respondents consistently implemented strategies to prevent exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Recommendation: The study recommended increasing the use of cleaner plastic substitutes and improving educational programs to convert information into practical actions. Policies that encourage environmentally friendly behavior and raise public awareness of safe plastic disposal techniques should be put into practice.

Recent field investigations, performed across some of the less floristically known sectors of Calabria, have led to the discovery of Salsola tragus and Thymelaea gussonei, two new species for the regional vascular flora. By providing crucial biogeographical and taxonomic remarks, this work aims to contribute to the improvement of the knowledge of the rich, diversified and still poorly known native flora of Calabria. The biogeographical value of these new findings underlines the decisive role of field survey in the enhancement of the information on regional biodiversity, the essential basis for every further ecological study and conservation effort.

Threatened Wildlife for an Instructional Approach about Biodiversity Conservation

Abstract Biodiversity is related to a global problem: its destruction, a fact supported by scientific authorities. It is not trivial that educational dimension has been contemplated as one of the strategies for its conservation. Since 1992 global initiatives such as the Convention on Biological Diversity postulates concepts that linked education and nature conservation. The main objective of this research work is to test the level of assimilation of extracurricular scientific knowledge by primary school pupils. The method chosen for the content was, on the one hand, a master class intervention with an interactive presentation on a digital whiteboard. Third cases were chosen. Each case consisted of a presentation of the current status of a species of fauna present in Spain. On the second part, students were asked to write an essay and to illustrate the experience during the presentation. Regarding the essays, students showed that they were more attracted to the first species that was presented (Iberian lynx) in a proportion of over 45% of cases. The “Endangered species” concept appeared in more than 77% of the texts reviewed. The price of grains like maize and sorghum is subject to significant fluctuations, which can have a significant impact on a country's economy and food security. The aim of the study is to model sorghum and maize price volatility in Nigeria. The data utilized in the study was extracted from World Bank Commodity Price Data (WBCPD), 2022. The data consists of monthly prices in nominal US dollars for maize and sorghum from January 1960 – August 2022. The Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (ARCH) and Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) models were utilized for capturing the two-grain price volatility. Two types of conditional heteroscedastic models exist, the first group uses exact functions to control the evolution of , while the second group describes with stochastic equations. It is inferred from the result that inherent uncertainties and fluctuations existed in the prices of maize and sorghum in Nigeria which implies that the price volatility is positive and statistically significant suggesting that historical information and past shocks play a crucial role in determining the volatility observed in the grains. It is recommended that the ARCH, GARCH, EGARCH, TGARCH, PARCH, CGARCH, and IGARCH models should be employed for modeling and managing the volatility of maize and sorghum prices in Nigeria. These models have shown effectiveness in capturing different aspects of volatility, including the impact of past shocks, conditional volatility, asymmetry, and other relevant factors.

The quality of communication between healthcare providers and pregnant women is a topic of paramount importance within the realm of maternal healthcare. It is not merely an aspect of medical interaction; rather, it is the prerequisite that influences various critical dimensions of maternal care, including maternal satisfaction, health outcomes, and shared decision-making. Effective communication between healthcare providers and pregnant women is essential for optimal maternal care during pregnancy and childbirth. Maternal satisfaction is a fundamental metric of patient-centered care, and improved communication, characterized by empathy, information sharing, and active listening, cultivates trust and enhances women's contentment with their care experiences. Positive provider-patient interactions are associated with improved emotional well-being, reduced stress levels, and increased adherence to prenatal recommendations, contributing to positive health outcomes for both mother and fetus. Shared decision-making is impacted by open and transparent dialogue between healthcare providers and pregnant women. Inclusive discussions about available interventions, risks, and benefits empower women to make informed choices aligned with their preferences and values. This shared decision-making promotes autonomy, self-efficacy, and a collaborative care partnership, potentially influencing the birthing experience and postpartum adaptation. However, challenges persist in communication quality, such as variability in healthcare provider communication styles, cultural considerations, and system-level factors. Addressing these challenges through targeted interventions, training, and policy implementation can further enhance the overall maternal care experience. Further research is needed to explore innovative strategies that optimize communication and promote positive outcomes throughout the continuum of maternal care.

Background: There is paucity of data on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among Health Information Managers/Health Record Officers (HROs) in the Nigeria health system. Hence, this study investigated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health-related quality of life (QoL) among HROs in Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the University Hospital, where a total of 52 health record officers were purposively sampled. Relevant data were collected using the Short Form survey (SF-36v2) questionnaire. One-way ANOVA was used to determine mean group differences across the nine and the two QoL (physical and mental) summary domains based on respondents’ socio-demographics, while level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: All the QoL sections of the instrument used yielded an α-Cronbach’s score of > 0.70. Analysis of some QoL physical component dimensions showed that; Bodily pain (BP) was found to be significantly (P=0.032) associated with marital status, Physical functioning (PF) with gender (P=0.023), and general health (GH) with age group (P=00.025) and highest level of education (P=0.023). On the other hand, mental health component analysis revealed that Social Functioning (SF) was associated with age group (P=014), Role limitation (RE) with marital status (P=0.048), highest level of education (P=0.048) and years of service (P=0.015) etc. Conclusion: The QoL among HROs studied was generally above average, and demographic characteristics such as age, gender and marital status significantly influence QoL. Health managers and stakeholders should consider some of the factors identified in managing HROs.

The concept of maternity care satisfaction focuses on women's expectations and results in women having a positive attitude about the care received during pregnancy, childbirth and after birth. The proportion of births to Ghanaian migrant mothers in China is increasing, and there is an increasing demand for information regarding their reproductive health. To reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and death rates, it is crucial for foreign women who use maternity services to be satisfied with their care. Ghanaian women's birth experiences in China might be harmed by language and cultural disparities. Little is known about their experiences in China's homogeneous society. A survey of 317 postnatal Ghanaian foreigners in Zhenjiang, China provided the study's data and was analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The results showed that (76%) of postnatal foreigners were satisfied with delivery care. Though the satisfaction level was high, respondents raised the issues of poor communication (62.8%) and high cost of delivery care (52.4%) as some of the general experiences they faced. Healthcare providers’ strengthening routine monitoring of maternal and newborn health programs will help deliver more woman-centered care.

Background: Oncology nurse navigators (ONNs) are becoming even more vital as healthcare continues to develop into a more complicated, confusing maze for patients. When many specialists on the treatment team have divergent points of view due to the nature of their respective professions or other factors, the patient may experience feelings of confusion. In the end, this can cause delays in treatment, pose a threat to the established standard of care, and lead to a decrease in patient satisfaction. Aim: To enumerate various ways in which ONNs may help improve the quality of life of cancer patients. Design: An integrative review. Results: A total of 19 studies related to the topic are evaluated. Four main themes namely: provider of psychological support, facilitator of timely care, oncology nurse navigators perception of their role and patient’s perception of oncology nurse navigators and 3 sub themes which are: information giver, source of emotional support and coordinator, were identified to be the roles of the ONNs. The findings showed that oncology nurse navigators help reduce patients anxiety and distress, increase patient satisfaction, shorten the time from diagnosis to treatment, provide necessary information, support them emotionally and coordinate their care with the different members of the healthcare team and resources. Conclusion: The main function of the ONNs is to address any barrier that may hinder the patient’s cancer treatment, survivorship and even palliative care. ONNs make sure that each patient has individualized nursing care according to the patients and their families' needs. Implications for Practice: ONNs have the potential to significantly contribute not only to the quality of life of cancer patients but also to the process of achieving better service integration. The result of this integrative review contributes to the growth of the healthcare system by improving accessibility, fairness, efficiency, effectiveness, and the ability to maintain health services throughout time brought about by ONNs.

The government of Mexico City carried out the introduction of palm trees in the 50s to increase the visual appearance of the main avenues. As a result of introduction of these exotic species, phytosanitary problems appeared. Currently there is scarce information on how to evaluate the health of these majestic monocots, in this sense, it is necessary to implement assessment scales to determine the health condition of the most frequently found species to advance on their care and management. The present study had the following objectives: 1) To determine the current state of health of palm trees by means of a scale of visual evaluation of the crown; 2) To know the diversity and structural characteristics of palm trees and 3) To determine the influence of composite variables on the ecosystem services such as the amount of shade provided. Health of palm trees were evaluated two times (dry and rainy seasons in 2022) on 35 transects of 200 m length. An imaginary circle divided into twelfths was overlapped on palm tree “crowns”, and through it, two absolute variables, Live Crown Ratio (LCR) and Crown Quality (CQ) were evaluated. Composite variables were also calculated. The 12/12 health scale adapted in the present study was useful. Four health categories were obtained for the Live crown ratio (LCR): 7.62% of the palm trees were in critical condition, 7.80% were in intermediate condition, 80.36% were in normal condition, and 4.20% were in excellent condition. Meanwhile, for crown quality (CQ), the percentages were 13.50%, 20.00%, 56.96% and 0.43%, respectively. The total height and “crown” diameter showed a positive correlation with the volume composite variables. The shadow area projected as an important ecosystem service increased as the health of the palm trees improved. This is the first study on palm trees health assessment in Mexico City.

Evaluation of the Critical risk factors in PPP - procured Mass Housing Projects in Abuja Nigeria - A fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE) approach

The study accessed the critical risk factors in public-private partnership (PPP)-procured mass housing project (MHP) delivery in Nigeria. The research design adopts a quantitative approach, using well-structured questionnaires distributed to stakeholders involved in PPP-MHPs i.e. consultants, in-house professionals, contractors, and the organized private sector (OPS) registered with PPP departments in the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority (FCDA) Abuja, Nigeria. The instrument relates to the background information of respondents and the risk peculiar to PPP-MHP. Sixty-three (63) risk factors were submitted for the respondents to rank using Mean Item score (MIS) for risk occurrence and its severity, while risk significance index (RI) was used to determine the risk impact. Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation (FSE) method was subsequently applied to determine the risk criticality groups and the overall risk level in the sector. The fuzzy set theory deals with ambiguous, subjective and imprecise judgments peculiar to decision making in construction project risk assessment. It aims to provide a synthetic evaluation of an object relative to a fuzzy decision environment with multiple criteria that requires qualitative linguistic terms. The findings show that thirty-one (31) risk factors were critical in the sector while financial and micro-economic risk group is contributing most significantly to the overall risk level in PPP-MHPs in Nigeria. The top 10 risk factors in the sector include availability of finance, high finance cost, the unstable value of the local currency, lack of creditworthiness, influential economic events (boom/recession), high bidding cost, poor financial market, financial attraction to project investors, interest rate volatility, inflation rate volatility, corruption and lack of respect for the law, non-involvement of the host community and poor execution of housing policies. The implication for practice is that having known the risk group contributing most significantly to the overall risk level in PPP-MHPs, adequate financial and budgetary allocation should be made available before embarking on such venture so as to sustain the scheme in the country. The study is one of the recent researches conducted on housing, since the procurement option is novel in the sector. The study is of immense value to PPP actors in providing necessary information required to formulate risk response methods in minimize the identified risk impact sector.

The paper considers a specific type of such financial instrument as an option, namely an exotic barrier call option of the European type. Exotic options are gaining popularity among ordinary investors due to the development of information and telecommunication technologies, thanks to which such specific financial instruments as options have become readily available. We investigate the hedging problem for such options with some restrictions on the payment function and the availability of dividend payment on a risky asset in the classical Black-Scholes model. An analogue of the Black-Scholes formula for the mentioned variant of the exotic barrier is proved. In the future, it is planned to generalize the obtained results for put options and for more general payment functions.

Prevalence of Anemia and Variations of Hematological Parameters among Anemic Hemodialysis Patients in the Tripoli Region

Abstract Background: Prolonged decline in the ability of the kidney to regulate acid–base balance, eliminate waste products, and manage water homeostasis and entered chronic phase, toxic metabolic accumulates and erythropoietin secretion by the kidney is decreasing and causes hematological changes including decrease of HCT, MCV, RBCs and platelet counts. Hemodialysis became a practical treatment for kidney failure and is the most common method used to treat advanced and permanent kidney failure. Anemia is one of the most common complications in hemodialysis patients. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of anemia among hemodialysis patients and investigate the variations of hematological parameters among anemic hemodialysis patients in the Tripoli region. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted on 250 renal failure patients, attending Tripoli Center for dialysis and 100 normal healthy subjects. The study Ethical Committee of the medical centers and the Libyan Academy of graduate studies reviewed and approved the study design and patient consent statements were taken from each patient. Information's about the patients were recorded in a questionnaire. A blood sample of 5 ml was drawn by venous puncture from each normal healthy individual and hemodialysis patient. 2.5 ml of the blood sample was collected in K-EDTA tubes for the hematological examinations and another 2.5 ml of the blood sample was collected in a plain tubes for biochemical tests (serum urea, creatinine, and uric acid concentrations). The hematological parameters (RBCs count, Hb, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, WBCs count, differential count of WBCs, and Platelets count) were determined using an automated hematology analyzer Sysmex (K- 4500) machine. The data were compared using GraphPad Prism version.9. The statistical significance of differences between groups was evaluated with the independent t-test. A P-value of <0.05 was considered significant for all statistical tests. Results: The results showed that the prevalence of anemia among hemodialysis patients was 89.8%. The degrees of anemia were 17% severe, 71.66% moderate, and 11.34% mild anemia. The types of anemia were 13.36% microcytic hypochromic, 82.59% normocytic hypochromic, and 4.05% macrocytic hypochromic anemia. RBCs, WBCs & platelets counts, Hct, MCHC, and Lymphocytes % showed a significant (P<0.01) decrease, and MCV was a significant (P<0.01) increase in the anemic hemodialysis patients compared with the healthy individuals. But, a significant (P<0.05) decrease in MCH was observed in the anemic hemodialysis patients when compared with the healthy individuals. A significant correlation was observed between RBCs and their indices with most of the hematological parameters. A significant (P<0.01) negative correlation was observed between serum urea with Hb, and RBCs count and Hct. While, a significant (P<0.01) positive correlation was recorded between uric acid with platelets count. A significant (P<0.01) positive correlation was observed between durations of hemodialysis with RBCs count and Hb, while, a significant (P<0.05) negative correlation was recorded between durations of hemodialysis with body weight, and MCHC. Conclusion: It can be concluded that a higher prevalence of moderate, normocytic hypochromic anemia among hemodialysis patients. Also, results showed a significant variation in hematological parameters among the anemic hemodialysis patients. So, hemodialysis patients advice to examine the hematological parameters and treated from anemia if detected.

Searching for What You Can’t See - Evaluation of Pesticide Residues in Grain Sold at Selected Markets of Southwest Nigeria

Studies on the use of pesticides in southwest Nigeria have revealed a substantial rise in a variety of pesticide-related illnesses, including mental impairment and reproductive problems. Those who work in agriculture and are regularly exposed to pesticides are the most impacted. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that three million severe pesticide poisoning episodes occur globally each year, with at least 300.000 deaths and 99% of cases occurring in low- and middle-income nations. The effects of longer-term exposure to pesticides on health are not yet precisely estimated. Objectives: To this end, the objective of this study is to assess the knowledge of pesticide residues and common pesticides in grain-based food (brown and white beans, yellow and white maize, brown millet and rice) about pesticide use in selected markets of Southwest Nigeria. Methods: A total of 240 respondents were selected from four states (Ado-Ekiti, Ibadan, Osun and Ondo) with the aid of structured questionnaire and interview guide using purposive sampling technique. The markets were Oja-titun (market) Ile-Ife, Osun; Alesinloye Market Ibadan, Oyo; Oja Oba, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti; and Oja Oba, Akure Ondo State. The identification and quantification of pesticide residues was done using a Varian 3800/4000 gas chromatograph mass spectrometer while 60 structured questionnaires were administered to respondents including food merchants, buyers/consumers as well as food vendors. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: The experiment was conducted from November 2020 to November 2021. Up to 50.4% never read instructions on pesticide application while a shared 24.8% read them always and occasionally. The number of respondents who never read the instructions were particularly high in Ekiti and Ondo, up to 52.5% of the respondents in Ekiti do not know whether or not they are exposed to pesticides during application. Also, majority of the respondents never attended any professional training on pesticide application, this amounted to 79.3%. Most people were not aware that unsafe pesticide application is harmful to human health. Similarly, a wide variety of symptoms were reported by respondents following pesticide application or consumption of grains, these included headaches and dizziness, itching and redness of the eyes, skin allergy, diarrhea, and stomach disorder, vomiting and loss of appetite, weakness of the body, asthma, permanent skin patches, shortness of breath, excessive sweating. Millet recorded the highest number of OCP residues while maize had the lowest. On the contrary, maize had the highest number of OPP and carbamate residues while millet had the lowest number of OPP residues. Meanwhile, maize, rice and beans had only one carbamate pesticide residue. Conclusions: According to the study's conclusions, farmers who can only get information from agricultural extension officials should receive urgent and immediate attention for raising awareness. Additionally, extensive IPM training programs must be created with the intention of disseminating precautions for protecting human health and a healthy agro-ecosystem. In order to find more effective pest management methods that utilize less pesticides, it is crucial to reevaluate the pesticide residues and common pesticides found in grains in the targeted markets. To reduce farmers' exposure to pesticides, it is also required to establish personal protective measures, special educational initiatives, and legislation promoting the use of safer pesticides. Significance and novelty: This study gives policymakers a comprehensive understanding of the ways that may be utilized to close the significant knowledge gap on pesticide residues in grains and provides an insight into the knowledge of pesticide residues and common pesticides in grains.

Avian influenza (bird flu) occurs sporadically in American poultry flocks, decimating these flocks and causing substantial economic losses. Avian influenza also impacts the beliefs of food handlers and preparers in the home (home cooks). Although those who properly handle and prepare processed poultry products cannot succumb to avian influenza, there is a widespread belief that one can contract the bird flu from these foods. Beliefs about getting avian influenza from poultry products and intentions to avoid consuming poultry products are the focus of this study of 285 home cooks. False beliefs about getting avian influenza from handling, preparing, and consuming poultry products are apparent in this sample. Correlational analysis also shows that those holding the false beliefs intend to act upon those beliefs by planning not to consume poultry products. Moreover, the false beliefs about contracting avian influenza from poultry products are correlated with a bias to see oneself as less likely to produce food that contains foodborne diseases. These findings are consistent with, and contribute to, the research literatures on belief formation and change, behavioral intentions, and with research showing how guilt by association thought processes underlie false beliefs related to food safety. This research has important implications for poultry and other food processing industries, and for campaigns to persuade the public about real and imaginary risks associated with particular food products.

Today, the presentation of a three-dimensional model of real-world features is very important and widely used and has attracted the attention of researchers in various fields, including surveying and spatial information systems, and those interested in the three-dimensional reconstruction of buildings. The building is the key part of the information in a three-dimensional city model, so extracting and modeling buildings from remote sensing data is an important step in building a digital model of a city. LiDAR technology due to its ability to map in all three modes of one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional is a suitable solution to provide hyperspectral and comprehensive images of the building in an urban environment. In this review article, a comprehensive review of the methods used in identifying buildings from the past to the present and appropriate solutions for the future is discussed.

Using a desktop review of literature, the effect of illegal capital flows on the economic performance of Sub-Saharan Africa is examined. The review focus on articles with attention to illegal capital flows and their effects on the economic performance of Sub-Saharan Africa as a whole. By way of sampling method, purposive sampling was used, and so the desktop review focused purposively on articles published on issues of illicit financial flows and their effects on the economic performance of Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa as a whole. The review found a high propensity of trade mis-invoicing and thus high illicit financial flows, transactions across boarders from developing countries and for that matter Sub-Saharan Africa to the developed economies. Therefore, the research recommends that customs divisions in sub-Saharan Africa should have up-to-date commodity-level world pricing information to make relatively better comparisons to detect mis-pricing and avoid such falsification and manipulation in trade. Given the high propensity of trade mis-invoicing resulting in high illicit financial flows, we recommend that cross-border transactions from developing sub-Saharan African countries be subjected to heightened scrutiny to curtail any potential traces of falsification in trade for tax evasion.

Studies have highlighted the benefits of frequent quizzing in class. Frequent quizzing can promote more student attendance, engagement, practice and review, and achievement. Conversely, the opponents of frequent quizzing suggest that too frequent testing might hinder learning by frustrating anxious students and inhibiting larger units of instructional material. Notably, most studies have used degree examinations to evaluate the impact of quizzes on student learning and performance, yet little is known about whether quizzes can reinforce student performance in the in-course assessments (ICAs) despite ICA importance in student learning. The present study aimed to test the hypothesis that administration of weekly MCQ quizzes can enhance the leaning outcomes and performance of biomedical science students in assessment methods such as essay and oral presentation that can directly measure and provide information about student learning. It was therefore limited to in-course assessments. We found that the performance of the weekly quiz student group is remarkably better than that of the control student group in both the essay and oral presentation ICAs, which are two measures and indicators of student learning, suggesting improved student learning outcomes and performance after administrating weekly MCQ quizzes that also promoted student attendance in classrooms. The findings of this research study have implications for students, teachers, and curriculum designers in higher education.

Endemic Hemicryptophyte Grasslands of the High Mountains of the Caribbean

Abstract Although there are numerous studies on the floristic composition of the Andean and Caribbean grasslands, there are limited information from a phytosociological point of view. This work therefore aims to highlight the differences in this important vegetation type in these two biodiversity hotspots to gain a better understanding of their floristic and vegetational richness. The floristic composition of Andean grasslands (Ecuador) and the island of Hispaniola is also studied. The reason for this comparative analysis of Andean and Caribbean territories is their tropical character and their bioclimatic similarities. The comparative analysis of Peruvian Andean and Colombian grasslands is based on floristic knowledge from the literature, our inventories on the island of Hispaniola, and the works of Peguero. We applied the phytosociological methodology of Braun-Blanquet and the code of phytosociological nomenclature. We performed a statistical analysis to verify the differences between both community types using the statistical packages PAST© and CAP3. The comparative analysis of Andean and Caribbean grasslands shows a clear floristic and biogeographical differentiation and reveals that the only ecological character they share is their high-mountain attribute. In the Caribbean these communities are found only on the island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic) in the Central biogeographic sector, Central subprovince, Hispaniola province. These grasslands are exclusive to Hispaniola and have a high rate of endemics. We propose the following new syntaxa: the association Hyperico constanzae-Danthonietum domingensis, the alliance Hieracio domingensis-Deschampsion domingensis, the order Danthonietalia domingensis, and the class Deschampsio-Danthonietea domingensis. The effects of climate change are already being felt in several parts of the World. Variability of changing rainfall intensity, drought and weather patterns contribute to determining the vulnerability of many human activities such as agriculture. In the next future, climate change considerations will depend on having appropriate strategies such as strengthen implementation agencies working in a coordinated manner and with a data-driven approach in order to ensure monitoring, reporting and data verification. In this context, national and regional meteorological Services are facing with high demand for timely and quality information, services and products. A web-based interactive application with the aim of disseminating meteo-hydrological information at regional scale is described in this paper. The web application is built on a relational database and client-side programming has been used for implementing the user interface and controlling the web page behavior. The combination of PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor, a general-purpose scripting language, especially suited to server-side web development) and JavaScript (high-level object-oriented scripting language, nowadays the dominant client-side scripting language of the Web) has been chosen for this reason, since such software is free to use for everyone. The SOL system, developed on behalf of Marche region, Italy, was chosen as a case study, due to its multi-source data framework and because of the processing and public dissemination of several ad-hoc data elaborations.

The article considers the problems of theoretical substantiation of negative informational and psychological impact evaluation principles, and conducting of relevant researches in this field. At the same time, due to imperfections of theory and practice of negative informational and psychological impact evaluation, previous researches were conducted mainly by “mirroring” the ways of information counteraction, both for our own measures of information and psychological influence, and for the adversary. The rationale for the methodological approaches used in the organization of information and psychological influence is due to inability to access the adversary's target audiences freely and gather the necessary information, as well as the inadequacy of assessing the degree of change in their behaviour. Characteristics mentioned in article classify target audiences according to defined indicators of remote information control of social and individual behaviour of possible objects of influence. Using the formulated conditions and relying on the psychological and psychophysiological characteristics of individuals, a database of target audience behaviour vulnerabilities is forming, that reflects the dependence of indicators of social behaviour perception changes on the intensity of external negative informational and psychological influences. The algorithm of target audience’s information perception is developed based on the model of planned behaviour, in which the subject’s overestimation of small values of probabilities are compared in dynamic with decrease of big ones. The proposed algorithm of evaluation of information-psychological impact allows to receive initial data based on which the model of target audience behaviour will be designed in any environmental conditions.

Integrated GIS and geotechnical assessment of the stability of the Oued Ayda dike (Kesra Siliana, Tunisia)

This study proposes an integrated approach combining geographic information systems (GIS) and geotechnical analyses to assess the stability of the Oued Ayda mountain lake dam, located in the Siliana Governorate, northwestern Tunisia. The mechanical properties of the embankment and foundation materials were integrated into a Mohr-Coulomb geomechanical model, while the pore water pressure distribution was simulated for various representative hydromechanical scenarios: end of construction, normal operation, rapid drainage, and short- and long-term empty reservoir conditions. The stability analysis, performed using the Morgenstern-Price method with the SLOPE/W software (GeoStudio), reveals high safety factors on the upstream side (SF > 3 in the short term and SF ≥ 2 in the long term), indicating good resistance of this slope to hydraulic and mechanical stresses. Conversely, the results show that the downstream slope exhibits significantly lower safety factors, ranging from 1.335 to 1.338 under long-term conditions, particularly during normal operating and rapid drainage scenarios. These reduced values indicate a high vulnerability of this slope to persistent saturation and adverse hydraulic gradients. In conclusion, although the dam exhibits satisfactory overall stability, the downstream slope remains the most vulnerable area of the structure. The results underscore the need for rigorous management of water level fluctuations and suggest reinforcing the drainage system or implementing targeted stabilization measures to ensure the long-term safety and durability of the structure.

Background: Building Information Modelling (BIM) improves safety planning in construction by enabling visualization and simulation to identify and reduce risks. However, its adoption in Nigeria is limited. This study examines the application of BIM in enhancing safety and environmental performance on construction sites in Nigeria. Methodology: A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted using a structured online questionnaire distributed to professionals in Nigeria’s construction industry. A purposive sampling method was employed to target respondents with relevant BIM experience. Data were analysed using SPSS version 28, applying descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression at a 5% significance level. Result: Findings show that BIM was fully adopted by 7.0% of organizations, with only 19.8% of respondents using it to identify safety hazards during planning. While 76.8% reported no notable safety benefit, 19.5% identified improved risk management as the key benefit. Most respondents (80.2%) reported no noticeable environmental benefits. Among those who did, improved energy efficiency was the most cited benefit (16.4%). Respondents with 10 or more years of experience were significantly more likely to report enhanced safety and environmental outcomes (AOR = 4.555; p = 0.003) and adequate BIM utilization (AOR = 3.255; p = 0.023). Those with intermediate BIM experience were also more likely to report high enhancement (AOR = 2.857; p = 0.039) and effective tool use (AOR = 2.881; p = 0.050). Conclusion: This study revealed that BIM has the potential to improve construction outcomes in Nigeria if supported by training, experience, and structured implementation.

Both objectives were executed under the supervision of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Mackay Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. The system completed for objective one has introduced three significant services to the clinic, including automated hemodialysis data collection, digitized data storage, and an information-rich human-machine interface as well as graphical data displays, which replaces traditional paper-based clinical administrative operations, thereby enhancing healthcare efficiency. The graphical data presented through web and app interfaces aids in real-time, intuitive comprehension of the patients’ conditions during hemodialysis. Moreover, the data stored in the backend database is available for physicians to conduct relevant analyses, unearth insights into medical practices, and provide precise medical care for individual patients. The training and evaluation of the predictive models for objective two, along with related comparisons, analyses, and recommendations, suggest that in situations with limited computational resources and data, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model with six hidden layers, SELU activation function, and a focus on artery-related features can be employed for hourly intradialytic BP/PR prediction tasks. It is believed that this contributes to the collaborating clinic and relevant research communities.

This study addressed the frequency of occurrence of the epistemic modal elements that the Ex-president prefers to express in the selected State of the Nation Addresses of Ghana. The study adopted a qualitative approach. Purposively, the two addresses selected for the study are State of the Nation Address: 16th February 2001 and State of the Nation Address: 14th February 2008. The selected addresses are a good starting point for determining tendencies in the meaning expressed by the selected modal categories. The focus is on the semantics of the epistemic category of modality and other related variables within the contexts in which they are used. The data were analysed based on specific epistemic modal meanings and the modal elements expressed. It was observed that there were more expressions of certainty during the 2008 State of the Nation Address than the first one delivered by the Ex-president. Additionally, it is observed that the selection of a particular modal element in a particular context is primarily influenced by the interplay of the speaker and the participants involved. Therefore, an epistemic modal element used in a different linguistic environment may have a different contextual meaning from another. The lower expressions of uncertainty during the last State of the Nation, which ended the tenure of office of the ex-president, show that he was sure he had performed well and was bold enough to make categorical statements. The study exhibited some occurrences of expression of tentativeness with the use of modal verbs alone. All the categories recorded any instance of tentativeness. It is also recommended that politicians, spokespersons, and speech writers be cautious when indicating their information sources and how they obtain them. This helps maintain political credibility, which is the dominant index of the electorate's quest for people who know the conditions and problems prevailing in the country and their solutions.

This aimed to examine the societal perception of new religious movements' televangelism in Dunkwa-On-Offin, Ghana's Central Region. The study used a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, using the mixed methods approach to research. The population of this study comprised Women, Regular churchgoers, believers, and those listening to televangelism services by new religious movements, as well as clergy, lay leaders, and other male worshippers. Random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select 200 women and 20 men from House of Power Ministry International and GILGAL Pentecostal Prayer Ministry International as the respondents for the study. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaires and interview guides. IBM SPSS statistics software version 23 was used to analyse the quantitative data, while qualitative data was analysed thematically with an interpretative lens. The study has revealed that society perceives the televangelism movements as helpful and encouraging but could also create trouble in fundamental Christian worship principles. The study also indicates that televangelists emphasise material things rather than spiritual matters. Other concerns included that televangelism brings about the separation of family and friends because they always inform members that their friends and family are evil. It is recommended that there is the need to change or improve the credibility perception among Christians in Ghana about televangelism. Televangelists must exhibit accountability and integrity to their worshippers by providing adequate information to encourage viewers to support their ministries.

Smallholder farmers face challenges when they lack information on their agricultural activities. To address this, we suggest a web-based system that can be used by farmers to help them in decision making considering the fact that all necessary information is provided by the system. Farmers can input crop type they want to grow and area. This data will help to recommend them the best crops that are suitable to be grown in that area and the necessary growing practices that can be done to produce high yield and have maximum profits, considering the average rainfall of that year. A persistent issue we face in Zimbabwe is the lack of access to reliable agricultural data. In the agricultural sector, one major uncertainty for farmers is the outlook of their future harvest. Once their produce is ready for sale, the presence of other potential buyers compels traders to offer prices that align closely with those in the formal market. However, without timely information, traders can take advantage of the situation by purchasing crops at unfairly low rates. Having data that tracks prices across various markets in near real-time would enable farmers to have a precise and complete understanding of their selling choices to maximize their profits.

Pharmaceutical Product serialization aims to assign distinct serial numbers to items within a pharmaceutical supply chain. However, this process faces several security challenges like Theft of valid serial numbers may occur, enabling the labelling of counterfeit products. Therefore, it's essential to ensure the uniqueness of serial numbers can be verified at any point in the product's lifecycle within the supply chain. Intimidatory nodes along the distribution network could corrupt planned changes of custody for products. Ensuring verifiability of compliance with these changes is crucial. Manufacturers and consumers need assurance that perishable goods with expired shelf lives are appropriately discarded. In this paper, we review a product serialization method leveraging blockchain technology to address these security concerns within a multi-party perishable goods supply chain. Blockchains offer potential solutions by providing a secure platform for data sharing in multi-party environments, enhancing security and transparency. Within Blockchain technology, each distribution partner is registered to uphold transparency regarding drug information. The system facilitates real-time transfer of ownership changes, recording them as blocks with date and time stamps. This ensures visibility to all partners in real time, maintaining the authenticity of drugs. This article aims to outline how Blockchain technology benefits the pharmaceutical industry by enhancing traceability and trackability of drugs throughout the entire pharmaceutical supply chain.

Business merchants and investors in Nigeria are interested in the foreign exchange volatility forecasting accuracy performance because they need information on how volatile the exchange rate will be in the future. In the paper, we compared Exponential Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity with order p=1 and q= 1, (EGARCH (1,1)) and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) based on long short term memory (LSTM) model with the combinations of p = 10 and q = 1 layers to model the volatility of Nigerian exchange rates. Our goal is to determine the preferred model for predicting Nigeria’s Naira exchange rate volatility with Euro, Pounds and US Dollars. The dataset of monthly exchange rates of the Nigerian Naira to US dollar, Euro and Pound Sterling for the period December 2001 – August 2023 was extracted from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin. The model efficiency and performance was measured with the Mean Squared Error (MSE) criteria. The results indicated that the Nigeria exchange rate volatility is asymmetric, and leverage effects are evident in the results of the EGARCH (1, 1) model. It was observed also that there is a steady increase in the Nigeria Naira exchange rate with the euro, pounds sterling and US dollar from 2016 to its highest peak in 2023. Result of the comparative analysis indicated that, EGARCH (1,1) performed better than the LSTM model because it provided a smaller MSE values of 224.7, 231.3 and 138.5 for euros, pounds sterling and US Dollars respectively.

This study aimed to evaluate the Social Studies Curriculum for Senior High Schools in Ghana to determine whether the subject has attained its goal(s) or not, using Stake’s Countenance Evaluation Model. The study took place in the Asante Akim North District. The population for study were all Social Studies teachers and students in the district. The multi-stage sampling technique was adopted for the study and the sample size was 120, made up of 100 students and 20 teachers. The concurrent mixed method approach was adopted. The main instruments used for collecting data were questionnaires, interviews (focus group and unstructured interview), observation and documentary analysis. Quantitative data were tabulated, organised, analysed and interpreted to draw sound conclusions and generalisations. The data were presented in the form of tables and percentages. Words were used to interpret the tables and percentages for easy understanding. The qualitative data responses were described and explained in the form of themes. Sometimes responses were quoted verbatim to authenticate claims made. The study looked at the congruence between what was intended to occur and what was observed before and during the implementation of the curriculum in the Asante Akim North District. On the transactions, it was revealed that teachers in the district communicate the problem the topic seeks to address and the specific objectives to the learners during instruction. Also, teachers varied their teaching methods, techniques and strategies. However, teachers failed to take students out on field trips. Also, they failed to use video documentaries to deliver their lessons inhibiting students’ creativity as they are denied the opportunity to explore and get first-hand information to build up knowledge and develop the needed attitudes and values. From the findings, it is therefore recommended that the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment should increase the time allotted to the teaching of Social Studies at the SHS level from 3-periods of 40 minutes a week to 5-periods of 40 minutes a week to give teachers and learners ample time to discuss, debate, digest and solve problems during instructional hours to enable the goal of the subject attained.

Our lives are becoming more and more digital, and this has an impact on how we work, study, communicate, and interact. Businesses are currently digitally altering their information systems, procedures, culture, and strategy. Existing businesses and economies are severely disrupted by the digital revolution. The Internet of Things, microservices, and mobile services are examples of IT systems with numerous, dispersed, and very small structures that are made possible by digitization. Utilizing the possibilities of cloud computing, mobile systems, big data and analytics, services computing, Internet of Things, collaborative networks, and decision support, numerous new business prospects have emerged throughout the years. The logical basis for robust and self-optimizing run-time environments for intelligent business services and adaptable distributed information systems with service-oriented enterprise architectures comes from biological metaphors of living, dynamic ecosystems. This has a significant effect on how digital services and products are designed from a value- and service-oriented perspective. The evolution of enterprise architectures and the shift from a closed-world modeling environment to a more flexible open-world composition establish the dynamic framework for highly distributed and adaptive systems, which are crucial for enabling the digital transformation. The purpose of this study was to examine the challenges faced by students of Colleges of Education (CoEs) in developing their Information Literacy skills. The study adopted the post-positivism paradigm. Descriptive survey research design used in this study Survey. The population for this study comprised all Level 200 students at Wiawso CoE, Enchi CoE, and Bia Lamplighter CoE in the Western North Region. Purposive, stratified, and convenience sampling techniques were used to select colleges of education and level 200 students. The three (3) colleges of education were stratified and purposively selected while 256 level 200 students were stratified and conveniently sampled. The study employed questionnaires to collect data from the sampled students. Questionnaires (open and closed-ended questions) focused on the challenges faced by the students in developing their Information Literacy (IL) skills. The quantitative data was captured, analysed, and presented in descriptive statistics such as percentages, and frequency tables, to determine the objective of the study. It is recommended that to improve digital literacy and academic pursuits, the college management should improve access to desktop computers and the Internet in the library and computer centre. It is also recommended that Management and librarians of the Colleges of Education ensure that students have access to these devices at the library and can use them to develop their IL skills and help them manage their references more effectively.

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of new religious movements’ televangelism on women in Dunkwa-on-Offin in the central region of Ghana. The study adopted the sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach. The study population was important because they make up a bigger share of individuals who attend mainline churches and are constantly exposed to televangelism in their daily lives. A multi-stage sampling technique (purposive and simple random sampling techniques) was used to select two hundred (200) women for the study. Krejcie and Morgan's table determined the two women population of 400 (for both churches). The main instruments for data collection were questionnaires and interview guides. Quantitative data was analysed with the use of the IBM SPSS statistics software version 23, to compute frequency distributions, percentages, tables and cross-tabulation. Descriptive statistics and inferential analysis were employed in the analysis of the data. Qualitative data was analyzed thematically by identifying relevant information, coding, classification and summaries. The study revealed that televangelism has influenced women to follow televangelists rather than the teachings of their churches. Also, the activity has influenced the youth and women to follow false teachings, prosperity and vain promises of travelling. The findings of the study revealed that televangelists’ messages are geared towards obtaining money and raising unrealistic hopes. It is recommended that the government should also establish and enforce policies and regulations that encourage genuine televangelism programming and deter televangelists who are driven by fraud and self-gain by registering all the churches and holding them accountable for their actions.

This paper delves into the escalating impact of social media within the financial sphere, emphasizing the heightened accessibility to information and market involvement facilitated by platforms like Twitter and Reddit. It sheds light on how social media plays a pivotal role in market manipulation, as evidenced by phenomena such as the r/wallstreetbets subreddit, where meme-based strategies were employed to inflate the prices of stocks like GameStop. The study explores the utilization of social media by influential figures, exemplified by Elon Musk, who leverage their platforms to sway market movements. Additionally, this paper addresses instances of misinformation, such as the confusion surrounding Virgin Galactic's shares following a SpaceX failure and the introduction of "AGUA" in the Mexican stock market, leading to widespread misunderstandings. The paper extends its examination to the effects of social media on cryptocurrencies, highlighting how comments from public figures can significantly impact the prices of Bitcoin and Dogecoin. Overall, it underscores the imperative need for adaptation to these changes in the digital financial paradigm.

The thrust of this paper is to delve into the cohesive devices of political discourse as it pertains to Nelson Mandela‘s I Am the First Accused. The text was codified and the lexico-grammatical resources were examined in terms of semantic ties through the lens of Discourse analysis. The text was analysed based on Halliday and Hasan’s, 1976 five major cohesion classification categories: reference, demonstrative references, substitution, conjunction and lexical cohesion. The research indicated that there were sufficient phenomenon-example relationships within the text. In other words, there was adequate justification for claim statements within the text. There are also adequate cause-consequential relations in the text. Anaphoric references were commonplace in the text. It was also found out that cataphoric reference was sparingly used in the text. Analysis of the data also revealed that there were 30 instances of personal references, 21 demonstrative references, 3 instances of comparative references, and 6 instances of substitution. There were no instances of ellipsis. There were 7 instances of conjunction as a semantic link. There were 15 instances of repetition, 5 examples of synonyms and 3 instances of antonyms. It is recommended that public speakers and media practitioners take cognisance of cohesive devices and make their write-ups and speeches more cohesive and coherent for their audience and readers to decode meaning. Teachers of English as a second language should give serious attention to the teaching of cohesion as a semantic link within a text since cohesion and coherence aid the readability of a text. Cataphoric references sustain the interest of listeners and readers since they expect information yet to be given. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers of English as a second language should encourage their students to use some cataphors in their essays to create some kind of suspense in their readers. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) could also be used as an analytical tool to examine how power plays within the text.

Family planning and the use of contraceptives have been introduced in Ghana to control the fertility rate and ensure the prevention of unplanned pregnancies. The study examined the perceptions of married men and women on the use of contraceptives, their access to information and the effects of mass media on the use of contraceptives in the Obuasi-East District. The research adopted a qualitative approach using the phenomenological case study design. Purposive and convenience sampling techniques were used to sample 15 married men and women for the study. The data was collected using interviews and presented through thematic analysis. The study revealed that participants had in-depth knowledge of contraceptives and male and female participants held different perceptions. Married men have knowledge of the types of contraceptives peculiar to both sexes. The women were familiar with condoms used by men and various types of contraceptives used by women. The most common contraceptive known and used by married men is a condom because of its effectiveness, ease of use and accessibility. The married women preferred injectables. The frequency of information from the mass media has reduced significantly compared to previous years. The study concluded that mass media has an effect on the use of contraceptives among married men and women and recommends that mass media frequently educate the general public on the use of contraceptives. Besides, information on contraceptives and their use should be diversified by media houses in the form of drama, poems, books and music to attract married couples.

The review article presents how emerging technologies improves the business enterprise applications for process management. The paper considers certain technologies of enterprise applications and justifies the updated methodological and analytical tools for assessing, selecting, and regulating business processes in a single enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Information technology must be used to identify products, track their movement into and out of the warehouse using code scanning technology, and streamline the product management procedure. To increase the dependability of management techniques, guarantee that the business operates flawlessly, and maintain a regular management mode, the process management form should be implemented in the enterprise management process. The implementation of digital information technology is essential for achieving effective corporate management. In addition to providing ideal operational circumstances for businesses, it is essential to analyse information technology and manage businesses economically. In this paper, the authors work on improving the security of data using a combination of Hill cipher and a Transposition cipher (Gp) , the plaintext will be encrypted using ordinary Hill cipher technique and encrypted again using Gp cipher there by producing a more complex ciphertext that will be very difficult for cryptanalyst to intrude, and the decryption process is done in two phases, the first decryption will return the ciphertext of the ordinary Hill cipher method and the second decryption will return the original plaintext.

Cancer is the second cause of death worldwide, affecting one in six people, with breast cancer being the most prevalent in females. Adapting to an oncological disease entails many physical and psychological changes that affect the patient and their families. This work aims to present existing scientific research on adaptation to oncological disease and the end of life of women with metastatic cancer aged between 45 and 65, framing with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. (TAC). Fifty documents with publication dates between 2002 and 2022 were included in this study. It was found that there is much information on the topic in question, as it is a problem that affects not only women but also all the systems they are in. When faced with a terminal diagnosis, a woman faces many doubts and uncertainties, in addition to all the physical effects of the disease. Therefore, she should be accompanied by a team specialized in Palliative Care, which can provide her and her family with all the support needed in this challenging phase.

Currently, Drug Counterfeiting is the biggest challenge facing the pharmaceutical industry. They are encountering this threat due to high market demand for the drugs and their profit margin. The lack of data transparency and traceability also lured criminals into the counterfeiting of drugs which, is impacting people’s health and put their life in danger. Through the drug supply chain, a substantial portion of counterfeit drugs are injected and distributed through the healthcare supply chain network, so the supply chain plays a vital role in drug distribution and impacts patient lives. Through digitalization in the healthcare sector, Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) provides a platform with ground-breaking results by providing a system for drug traceability with consideration of the critical requirements of transparency, privacy, and authenticity without involving any third party. In DLT, each distribution partner is registered to maintain transparency with the drug information. Real-time transfer of information about the change of ownership with date and time in the form of blocks gives visibility to all the partners in real time about the authenticity of drugs. This article will give information about the benefits of Distributed Ledger Technology to the pharmaceutical industry and the traceability of drugs from end-to-end of the pharmaceutical supply chain.

The main objective of the study was to explore fertility control behaviours among educated urban women in the Cape Coast Metropolis. The study adopted the interpretivist (qualitative) philosophy in social research. The population for the study comprised women who have at least secondary-level education, are married or in a stable union and are between the ages of 18 and 49 years. The main instrument for data collection was a semi-structured interview guide. Data was collected from educated women within the Cape Coast Metropolis. Five items open-ended questions under the heading Factors influencing fertility control among highly-educated urban women in the Cape Coast Metropolis. All transcribed data were then imported into NVivo 11, a computer-aided qualitative data analysis package with each transcript coded sentence by sentence. The codes were determined and constructed based on the content of the data. After the coding process, each code was described and memos attached as ideas about the themes emerged from social-cultural, economic to educational factors. The study underscores the adequate involvement of male partners in women’s fertility control practices, especially women’s contraceptive preferences. This demonstrates the authority of men over women in the domain of the family. Recognising that men have enormous powers regarding fertility issues tend to appreciate the need to promote and advance family needs and welfare. Also, the results indicate that other close associates or relatives are involved in women’s contraceptive lives. These close relations are what describes as a social network in Bronfenbrenner social-ecological framework. Besides, there are multiple socio-cultural and economic obstacles that could work against achieving desired fertility levels. It is recommended that family planning programmes should not focus on only women, but include male partners to enhance a change in behaviour and norms regarding power and gender roles that do not make them supportive partners. There is a need for a high-level promotion through civil society to encourage men to get involved in family planning matters. This will help women or couples to freely adopt their desired fertility control methods without hindrance.

The study indicated that in order to sustain networking education, teachers need to be more cognizant of their interactions and the influence they have on students. A comprehensive analysis was carried out to explain the benefits of adopting enterprise system for pharmaceutical drug traceability. Counterfeit drugs are medicines that are fake and have been produced using incorrect potency, or incorrect ingredients used to manufacture these drugs. Solving the drug counterfeiting problems by identifying the most effective and innovative technologies for protecting people's health is of essence these days for the world. Drug serialization is essential concept for drug traceability in the pharmaceutical supply chain. Blockchain is the latest stringent technology that makes drug distribution more secure in the supply chain. The blockchain-based drug traceability is a distributed shared data platform that shares information that is irreversible, reliable, responsible, and transparent in the PSC. Blockchain uses two powerful module, Hyperledger Fabric and Besu to satisfy important criteria for medication traceability, such as privacy, trust, transparency, security, authorization and authentication, and scalability. Researchers in Health informatics can use blockchain designs as a useful road map to develop and implement end-to-end pharmaceutical drug traceability in the supply chain to prevent drug counterfeiting. Industrial IoT is also a key component for the pharmaceutical industry. IoT systems in pharmaceutical drug traceability can be beneficial as they are based on automation and computational methodologies.

An Appraisal of Epistemic Modality in Selected State of the Nation Addresses

Qualitatively, the study adopted a content analysis approach. There were eight State of the Nation addresses that the Ex-President John Kufour delivered during his tenure of office but only two of them are analysed in this study. The purposive sampling approach was used to select two State of the Nation addresses samples. The State of the Nation addresses of two years were picked for the study. The years are: 16th February 2001, and 14th February 2008. The qualitative data was analysed by the use of the interpretative technique based on the themes arrived at during the content analysis of the two speeches delivered by ex-president Kufour. Selective coding was used to code the occurrence of the categories of the epistemic modality expressions in the data. The epistemic modal elements as well as the sentences in which they occurred were then manually copied for further verification. These processes made the frequency count faster, more effective and more accurate. The data shows the relevant clauses or sentences containing modal expressions sampled within the contexts of epistemic meanings in the texts. The study has made it apparent that the expression of certainty is predominant. The data also indicates that the Ex-president has a greater tendency to use more modal adjuncts followed by the other modal auxiliary verb categories in expressing certainty in the selected State of the Nation Addresses during his State of the Nation Addresses. One question that arises is, why the Ex-president had a greater tendency to express more certainty in his State of the Nation Addresses. The answer is that Ex-president was fully sure and convinced of the information on the nation’s development and future programmes captured in the addresses. Thus, he appeared a confident, trustworthy and knowledgeable leader. Furthermore, the use of epistemic modality in the State of the Nation Addresses is neither haphazard nor coincidental. Instead, it is informed by reason of specific communicative intent. It is recommended that Public speakers and politicians should take the epistemic markers into consideration when writing the State of the Nation Address or any other texts in order to clarify shared opinion. It is also recommended that the Faculty of Language of the University of Education of Winneba should consider the concept of epistemic modality as a course of study in all various Language Departments including the Department of Communication Skills.

The purpose of this study was to examine teachers’ knowledge base in community resources used in assessing Social Studies concepts in the University of Education Practice Junior High School (JHS), Winneba. The case study design was employed as the study's qualitative methodology. The population comprised two Social Studies teachers in the University Practice JHS, Winneba. Purposive and convenient sampling techniques were used to select the teachers and school for the study. The main instrument for data collection was the interview guide. The two teachers were interviewed because they were in a position to give all the relevant information required for the research. They were also readily available at the time of the research. The study revealed that even though the Social Studies teachers were aware of community resources, they did not involve them often in their lesson delivery. However, in the only case where a teacher took the learners round the school compound to look at the various types of rocks, the learners were excited and willing to learn. The assessment results also showed that almost all learners, both low and high achievers had high scores. Evidence from the inquiry also shows that teachers used only traditional forms of assessment in Social Studies. Teachers give multiple choice and essay type of assessment items to learners. Teachers did not involve community resources in the assessment of Social Studies concepts because of challenges like inadequate time allocated for the teaching of the subject, financial constraints, bureaucratic processes involved in obtaining permission and the need to meet the requirements of external examinations. It is recommended that the Ghana Education Service (GES) should design appropriate policies to ensure that provision is made in the school academic calendar for field trips and community resource engagement for Social Studies education. Social Studies teachers should also be trained on the full range of assessment techniques suggested in the 2012 syllabus. Emphasis should be laid on authentic/alternate assessment practices. At the school level, heads of Social Studies department should organise periodic in-service training for the teachers to ensure that the curriculum, instruction and assessment practices are aligned to ensure that the subject attains its intended goals and outcomes.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate students’ awareness, understanding and use of the information on care labels. Quantitatively, the study adopted a cross-sectional survey design. The population of the study comprised all the Family and Consumer Science students at the University for Development Studies, Nyankpala campus, Tamale. Morgan and Krejcie chart, was used to select 159 out 270 students. Data collected were analysed using IBM SPSS with descriptive statistics which included mean, standard deviation, frequencies and percentages. Findings of this study proved that students do not always use the information on care labels when purchasing and caring for clothes and cannot identify the symbols on care labels that do not directly link with their meaning. This study has practical implications for students by using the information on care labels when purchasing and caring for clothes. Students should likewise find ways of identifying the symbols even without their meanings. The Social Implication implications of this study also postulates that local clothes manufacturers should be encouraged to create their labelling schemes for care labels that will be peculiar to how Ghanaians care for their clothes as they exist in other countries. Organizations and bodies that formulate the symbols should make sure the shape of the symbols has a direct link with their meaning to aid in their understanding and usage.

Biodiversity Conservation is a priority issue for the scientific community, and a main subject in the Biology and Geology curriculum at secondary school level in Spanish Educational System. In the present didactic proposal, we use the demographic monitoring of an endangered plant species to illustrate a research tool for estimates of biodiversity loos in nature, the local endemic Astragalus tremolsianus Pau. The aim of the proposal is to bring students closer to a real experience, which brings together knowledge of Biology, Algebra and Trigonometry, through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Showing a census to monitor the populations of a threatened high mountain flora species into the classroom is an innovative teaching activity that combines and uses knowledge from different disciplines, as well as demonstrating a real application of the knowledge acquired. The use of mathematical tools encompasses a number of skills that require the application of mathematical principles and processes in the scientific context. The introduction of the structure of scientific texts is another positive aspect of this didactic experience.

Water is essential for food security and animal agricultural productivity, but it is becoming more scarce due to climate change. The interaction between climate change and livestock water resources has received little attention from researchers, despite the significance of small-scale animal husbandry for the rural poor in Africa and the size of the changes that are anticipated to have an impact on smallholder livestock systems. Threats to livestock water are undoubtedly one of the most significant environmental issues that have impacted food security on the continent, given their links to small-scale animal husbandry and the detrimental impacts on productivity. In order to balance the negative effects of climate change scenarios for sustainable animal productivity and contribute to food security through small-scale animal agriculture, the most climate-smart and resilient agricultural water practices and technologies must be used. Changes in rainfall and a decline in the biomass available for grazing and rangelands as a result of water stress brought on by the climate would have the most severe effects. This is due to the rain-fed nature of small-scale livestock farming. The local animal genetic resources are essential for animal productivity and food security in Africa, particularly in areas where livestock water is becoming scarce owing to climate change. Research and development goals on the effects of climate change on livestock water, animal productivity, and food security may need to be reviewed if demands of vulnerable small-scale animal producers are to be successfully addressed in the future decades. It is best to use an interdisciplinary approach to comprehend the relationships between small-scale animal husbandry, food security, and climate change. By navigating the complexities of climate adaptation, small-scale livestock farmers can manage livestock water scarcity by taking adaptation measures that are in line with evolving climate impacts and associated means of implementation based on pertinent and useful knowledge that takes into account a blend of traditional and modern water science. In this paper, an effort is made to close some significant information gaps and shed light on how water-induced stress impacts small-scale animal production, which has an effect on food security.

The supervisory role of kindergarten teachers is primarily concerned with supervising and managing the efforts of their learning environment to create safe, positive learning environments for all learners, as well as ensuring that no child is left alone or unsupervised by teachers or caregivers while under their supervision. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of teachers’ supervision on the safety of kindergarten pupils in Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (K.E.E.A.) Municipality in the central region of Ghana. Qualitatively, the Instrumental Case Study Design was employed in this study to gather information on the participants. The population consisted of 227 Kindergarten teachers in the KEEA Municipality of Ghana. Convenience sampling technique was used to select sixteen (16) public kindergarten teachers for the study. The main instrument used for data collection was semi-structured interview guide. The data were analyzed thematically. The analysis of the data was done with the help of online qualitative software, Taguette version 1.3, Using the Taguette, the researchers highlighted quotes and phrases from the interviews that were significant to the study. The study supported that, establishing a well-conducive school environment enhance teachers’ supervision which goes a long way to ensures learners’ comfortability and safety; maximize learners’ academic performance; lessen fear in learners; promote teaching and learning; and support learners’ participation in play experiences. It is recommended that, key players in education such as Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service should investigate the effect of teacher supervision on learners’ safety vis-a-vis with its educational implications. It is also recommended that, kindergarten teachers should be encouraged to supervise their learners to guarantee positive outcomes of promoting learners’ comfortability and safety; maximizing learners’ academic performance; promoting teaching and learning; and contributing to support learners’ participation in play experiences.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to the analysis of the South African history of the culture of teaching and learning. This study was driven by the desire for effective teaching and learning within the South African context. Design / Method / Approach: The information in this research came from outside sources (secondary sources). Journal articles (after peer review), dissertations (both published and unpublished), internet sources, and textbooks were used as informational resources. Findings: Teachers believe they have no say in the development of the educational system but are expected to execute its policies and procedures. Fear of change can lead to inappropriate behaviour. For a country to have globally competent citizens it needs to review its curriculum. South Africa has undergone a substantial educational change since the mid-1990s, but its efforts to implement new curricula have been problematic. After the dawn of democracy, concerns were raised about the decline of a positive culture of teaching and learning, especially in disadvantaged township schools. Theoretical implications: there is a lack of theory on an analysis of the South African history of the culture of teaching and learning. Thus, this study seeks to expand the theory. Practical implications: Findings from this research will advance the science behind the culture of teaching and learning in South Africa. Originality / Value: This research will shed light on the development of South Africa's teaching and learning culture, provide suggestions gleaned from its findings, and point the way toward other avenues of inquiry. Research Limitation & Implications: This research was constrained by the quantity and quality of published secondary sources at the time of writing.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disease that includes a wide range of functional impairments, such as social and communication deficiencies, as well as limited and selective interest and behavioral patterns that are repetitive. Children with ASD often show developmental delay, which is noticeable at an early age, and show a wide range of symptoms that interfere with daily functioning, so early diagnosis includes early interventions. A complex set of genetic and environmental factors is associated with the development of ASD, which makes ASD a complex disorder, so there is a clear distinction between neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals. Since ASD is caused by a combination of certain genetic mutations and the prenatal/postnatal environment, we focused on the etiology of ASD in viral infections, i.e., Cytomegalovirus (CMV) as a possible cause of ASD. CMV is a neurotropic herpesvirus, which can be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, which is often asymptomatic and can remain latent throughout life, can pose a danger to immune insufficiency individuals during pregnancy. CMV is the most common pathogen that causes intrauterine infections, is the most common cause of nongenetic sensorineural hearing loss in children, and the main cause of neurodevelopmental delay, so research suggests an association between congenital CMV infection with ASD and maternal seropositivity for CMV in pregnancy. spectrum in children. This study aimed to examine the pedagogical knowledge base of Religious and Moral Education teachers in assessing students’ academic performance. The research design used for this study was the correlational research design. 159 basic schools were selected to participate in the study. The population of the study comprised Religious and Moral Education (RME) teachers and second-year students in basic schools in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. Purposive and random sampling techniques were used to select basic schools, Religious and Moral Education (RME) teachers, and students for the study. In all one hundred and seventy-five (175) RME teachers and three hundred and fifty-seven (357) students were selected for the study. The main instruments employed in the study were questionnaires and observation. The data was analysed through the computation of frequencies, percentages, mean of means distributions, and the calculation of correlation coefficient. Pearson’s Correlational Coefficient was used to describe the linear relationship between each of the variables. This was done with the use of computer software called Statistical Product for Service Solutions (SPSS). The study concluded that teachers possessed adequate knowledge about the use of pedagogy or instructional methods when it comes to the teaching of RME. However, as observed, teachers use of the existential approach and the life theme approach only, and, teachers did not make use of the concept cracking approach to teaching RME probably because they lacked adequate information about how to use them. It is recommended that the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment should organise in-service training for teachers to be abreast with some of these contemporary pedagogies for the teaching of RME in Basic Schools and also make modules available for use at the Colleges of Education to train our upcoming teachers at the Basic Schools.

The internet originated as a neutral device that was predominantly created to bring ease to the lives of people by making available all the information needed for the growth and prosperity of human beings, but the misuse of this communication medium has created a lot of challenges and the internet addiction is one of them. Internet addiction is a rapidly growing phenomenon exhibiting alarming prevalence rates and a widely recognized problematic condition around the world. Preliminary findings have shown that the unrestrained availability of this communication medium has unfetteredly increased the rate of various complications including psychological disturbances, neurological problems, and social issues. Moreover, it has accelerated the probability of those having an underlying psychological disorder being at serious risk of becoming addicted to the internet, therefore, it has stirred a hot topic of discussion among the mental health communities. The aim of this paper was to deliberately provide a brief overview of the theoretical considerations and ongoing research on internet addiction. A detailed review analysis was performed addressing the types of internet addiction, epidemiology, comorbidities associated with the excessive use of the internet, and different treatment options. Moreover, future areas of research were highlighted stressing the significance of reaching a consensus on characterizing primary features of internet addiction, and an outlook on the future goals of ongoing research has been demonstrated.

Undoubtedly, HIV/AIDS menace has been a major source of concern to everyone, particularly, the people of Lower Manya Krobo Municipality (LMKM) as the area has always recorded a higher rate of infections compared with other districts in Ghana. Against this backdrop, the study sought to assess the HIV/AIDS knowledge of Senior High School students in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region of Ghana. To obtain the respondents, a simple random sampling technique was adopted to select 300 students, comprising 120 boys and 180 girls proportionately selected from the four public Senior High Schools in the Municipality. A-37 item questionnaire adapted from Wanjiru Helen Wairimu was used for the data collection. The obtained data were analysed using descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations, frequencies, and percentages). The study found that the majority of the senior high school students in the LMKM of Ghana have high knowledge about HIV/AIDS through several available sources within their domain. However, it was again found out that HIV/AIDS knowledge they have does not have much impact and influence on their sexual behaviour. Several recommendations were suggested which include; the fact that the Ministry of Health in collaboration with other important educational agencies should intensify sex education to students and the community members in order to strengthen their awareness of HIV/AIDS.

The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of instructional materials in teaching and learning biology in the Colleges of Education in the Central Region of Ghana. Qualitatively, a case study research design was selected for the study. The population of the study consists of three Biology tutors in the three Colleges of Education in the Central Region. The purposive sampling technique was chosen to select all the three colleges and three Biology tutors for the study. The interview guide was the main instrument for the data collection. Data were analysed using the interpretative technique based on the themes arrived at during the data collection from the respondents. The study concluded that instructional materials boast students’ cognitive abilities and arouse their interest in the lesson by helping them to reason critically during teaching and learning. The study also revealed that the competencies level of tutors helps them in the assessment of the subject, selecting relevant materials for each concept. Their pedagogical skills depend on their competencies in the classroom instructions. The study also concluded that a good presentation of a lesson has a substantial impact on teaching and learning situations, as well as the vast amount of information available to students, to supplement their instruction and the principles for appropriate use of instructional materials. It is recommended that professional development should be organised for the Biology tutors in their respective colleges to have competencies in using relevant instructional materials in assessing students in Biology lessons. It is also recommended that Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (G-TEC), National Teaching Council (NTC), and universities should collaborate with the colleges to organise workshops and seminars for tutors teaching Biology to update their knowledge in the use of digital instructional materials in lesson presentation.

The study aimed at examining farmers’ perceptions on the impacts of climate change on food crops and the farming practices that contribute to climate change (CC) in Bibiani – Ahwiaso – Bekwai municipality of Western North Region of Ghana. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used for this study. The population of the study consisted of the number of households in six communities (Hwenampori, Wenchi, Tanoso, Awaso-Asempanaye, Kunkumso, and Sefwi Bekwai), officials from MoFA, GMA, and heads of households who are food crop farmers from the study area. Simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select respondents for the study. 231 respondents were selected and contacted for information to aid them in the study. The main instruments for data collection were the administration of questionnaires to farmers, organization of focus group discussions with key informants, the use of structured interview guides on MoFA directorates and direct observation of some farms. The primary and secondary data were sourced mainly from household heads from the study communities who are in the production of maize, cassava, and plantain. Pearson Chi-Square and Cross-tabulation of the IBM SPSS Version 20 were also used in performing descriptive statistical analysis. The study revealed that the output of maize, cassava, and plantain have all proved to be negatively impacted by changes in rainfall and temperature patterns with a more significant impact observed from maize responses to temperature. The study also indicated that the impact of climate change may affect the crops at any stage of the production process right from the land preparation to the maturity stage of crops but the more profound effect is observed at fruit development and maturation stages. The study indicated that changes in temperature affect crop yield, especially during the fruit/seed development stage. The study revealed that most farmers (about 92.2%) have observed climate change in the study area and indicated events like unpredictable rainfall patterns, excessively high temperatures and strong winds. It is recommended that capacity building and awareness creation should be enhanced by GMA and MoFA through the media to ensure that communication about climate change and food security is meaningful. This means that education on diversification of farming methods has not been enough if there is any at all in the area. Awareness creation, therefore, allows people to make informed and responsible decisions toward sustainable farming practices which will lead to food security and also environmental sustainability.

This article seeks to relate (trans)generational issues with the phenomenon of sociodromology and education in the COVID-19 pandemic period that began globally in the first months of 2020 and 2021. To make such crossings possible, we will initially present under which aspects we are addressing the term generation, and its respective phenomenological development, transgenerationality. Once these concepts have been properly presented it is also necessary to relate those information with the generations that are currently living within educational environments, especially schools. After such an exposition, we will present the theory that contemplates the vector of acceleration and its respective consequence for humanity. Sociodromology emerges as a theoretical instrument that makes it possible to critically glimpse how the speed of machines has dictated our lives, having a perverse facet of exclusion that determines which groups may be able or unfit at their pace. Finally the text concludes its reflection on the current educational context using the critical tools of socio-pedagogy, which views the subjects who are involved in the educational process as representatives of an even greater order in the world, which transcends schools. In this perspective, education as a pillar of knowledge acquisition should be revised in addition to its pre-determined role in society and should form individuals who could change the world and their communities.

A qualitatively, interpretative design was adopted to evaluate type of laboratory practical Teacher Support Materials that could be used to teach practical skills of observation, listening and communication and manipulation of apparatus in titration. The population of the study consisted of three public Senior High Schools (SHS) in Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) municipality of the Central Region of Ghana. Each school offers chemistry as a subject to students. Convenient, purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to sample schools, teachers and students for the study. Six (6) teachers were purposively sampled out of a total of 8 chemistry teachers because they had qualification in Science Education in Chemistry. Five (5) students from each school were randomly selected from each of the three SHS for focal group discussion. The main instrument used for data collection were semi structured interview guide and Observation Checklist (OC). Teachers interview schedule was used to solicit information from the chemistry teachers on how they perceived the use of Practical Skills- based TSMs for teaching practical process skills in titration at the SHS levels. The curriculum profile was used to collect data to answer the research question. For each of the four Lesson Profiles (lesson introduction, skill development, application and closure) of the lesson plan, the total number of scores was divided by the maximum possible scores for the profile and expressed as percentage and qualitatively describing the trends of emerging themes. The study concluded that there has been some improvement in the cognitive experience and pedagogical content knowledge of the teachers as well as the students in the use of the PS-based teacher support material in the laboratory. It is recommended that teachers and educators should thoroughly read and assimilate the contents and the processes described in the PS-based TSMs before they are used in teaching titration so as to develop practical process skills of the students.

Floristic Composition and Structure in the Undergrowth of Agroforests in Neems in the Far North Region (Cameroon)

Abstract This study took place in the Far North region of Cameroon. The general objective was to assess the floristic diversity of the undergrowth of Agrosystems in Azadirachta indica. The data were collected in 100 m long by 20 m wide transects surveyed in plantations of different ages. In total, 5 transects were carried out, ie a total area of 1 ha per site. The sampling bands were established using the compass, decameter, GPS and wires. The experimental set-up used was a 5-repetition split plot. A total of 7689 individuals divided into 9 families, 13 genera and 16 species have been identified. Guiera senegalensis and Piliostigma thonningii are the most common in terms of relative abundance. The analysis of the Family Importance Index (VIF) shows overall that the Combretaceae, and Mimosaceae are the most important in ecological terms. The overall density of species within the plots varies between 129 and 105 ind / ha. The basal area varies from 2.02 to 3.88 m² / ha. The Importance Value Index (IVI) is of the order of 300 in the different plots. The floristic diversity of the undergrowth of Agrosystems (average ISH> 2) shows homogeneity and an even distribution between the different plots. Plots with similarity indices of less than 50% do not meet floristic affinity while similarity indices are high in plots with floristic affinities greater than or equal to 50%. The diameter structure showed a predominance of young individuals. This information drawn from the conclusion of the present study shows that they constitute an important argumentation of the advantages so that the services of agricultural development should be interested in the conservation and valuation of such an agroforestry system for the protection of the environment against the climate change mitigation and sustainable development of local communities.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the key role of service quality and beauty of sports facilities in increasing customer satisfaction. The research method is descriptive and correlational research. The statistical population of the study was 154188 organized athletes covered by sports insurance (103890 men, 50298 women) who were working in sports halls of Mazandaran province and according to Morgan table, 384 athletes were randomly selected by cluster Were. Aesthetic questionnaire, service quality and customer satisfaction were used to collect information. Data analysis was performed using Pearson test and structural equation modeling by SPSS24 and Amos structure analysis software. According to the research results, the indirect effect of aesthetics of sports venues on increasing customer satisfaction through service quality is significant. Managers can take effective steps to increase their presence and increase the income of gyms by using quality improvement strategies and customer satisfaction.

Introduction: One Key Question® is a patient-centered tool that seeks to understand patient pregnancy intention and counseling. This pilot study aimed to assess implementation of OKQ at an urban healthcare facility and improve understanding of short interpregnancy intervals (IPI). Methods: We describe the implementation of OKQ in our setting using the Diffusion of Innovation Theory as a framework. We broke this up into two phases – the first to assess provider acceptance of the OKQ integration into the clinic workflow and the second to assess how well documentation of OKQ answers occurred in our EMR. Results: Most providers in the first phase reported awareness of the inclusion of OKQ in the EHR, yet most physician providers reported only using OKQ at “some visits” (n=5) compared to the MAs, who reported using OKQ at “every visit” (n=8). Most providers felt that OKQ was an effective method of providing preconception and contraception care for women of reproductive age (n=10). Sixty-four patients completed a survey on OKQ after their visit who identified as young (mean age 28.7), either Black (46.9%) or Hispanic (51.6%) and pregnant (61%). Of those, 83% reported that they were not asked OKQ and 42% reported receiving counseling on optimal IPI. In those patients, 78% had documentation of usage of OKQ in the medical record. Discussion: The implementation of OKQ provided an opportunity to provide standardized preconception and contraception care to our patient population and improve information regarding short IPI. However, challenges existed in implementation which much be overcome to benefit from OKQ. Significance: OKQ has been used successfully in primary care and other settings to assess pregnancy intentions. This article adds to the literature by investigating the implementation of OKQ in a low-resource setting during prenatal and gynecology care. It shares struggles of implementing OKQ in an electronic medical record and how to roll out this program in a setting where pregnancy intention already is including in various forms by our providers.

Digital formative assessments have the features of digital learning environment and can be used by teachers to both empower students’ learning and adapt the next steps in the learning process of their students. They are effective tools that can help lecturers and tutors to both collect and analyze the required information and data for supporting the teaching and learning processes. Importantly, digital formative assessments have been particularly critical during the COVID-19 pandemic due to increased students’ learning outside traditional classrooms, limited face-to-face classes and other students’ learning and assessment difficulties at many educational institutions worldwide. In this article, we describe the essential features and importance of digital formative assessments and their recently developed communication methods. We also discuss the significance of digital formative assessments in measuring students’ learning and skills in times of global crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mashhad is one of the important metropolitans in the northeast of Iran with over 25 million tourists per year. After evaluating the physical space of Mashhad in terms of semantics and identity with the aim of promoting tourism, 127 valuable places with cultural, historical, and religious values were identified, assessed, and analyzed using a Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Therefore, the appropriate distribution of tourist routes for travelers to visit the city of Mashhad was done and 10 corridors and zones were selected. The basis of this choice was the existence of a valuable place at origin and destination of the routes and the existence of appropriate tourism, commercial, welfare and cultural infrastructure and ability to access various uses. Percentage and number of valuable places in each proposed route necessarily meant percentage of the total, excluding repetition in other routes.

The Clinical use of Guidelines for the Pharmacological Treatment of All Diseases is Problematic Because of Little Information about Adverse Effects

In a guideline for the pharmacological treatment, the priority is usually based on the strength of the evidence of efficacy. This is academically correct, but not clinically appropriate. Adverse effects are as important as efficacy in clinical practice. There are guidelines for the pharmacological treatment that take adverse effects into account. However, most adverse effects considered are those obtained in double-blind studies of pharmacological treatment performed to prove efficacy. In the treatment guidelines of various diseases, too little effort is spent on pharmacological adverse effects compared to the effort spent on pharmacological efficacy. I would like to make recommendations in the guidelines for the pharmacological treatment of all diseases. The guidelines for the pharmacological treatment of various diseases should be developed with increased efforts to investigate adverse effects. Some guidelines for the pharmacological treatment use systematic reviews and meta-analyses to examine the efficacy of medicine, and similar methods should be used to examine the adverse effects of medicine. It is easy to prioritize medicines based on evidence of efficacy. However, it is not appropriate to prioritize medicines in clinical practice based solely on evidence of efficacy. Adverse effects should also be considered in priority ranking of medicine in clinical practice. In addition to efficacy and adverse effects, price and the degree of off-label prescribing also affect the priority ranking of medicine in clinical practice.

Allometric Models for Predicting Biomass and Carbon Pools of Boscia Senegalensis(Pers.) Lam. Ex Poir. (Capparaceae) Populations in Central Africa: A Case Study from Cameroon

Abstract Accurate estimates of above-ground biomass (AGB) and below-ground biomass (BGB) are essential for estimating carbon (C) balances at various geographical scales and formulating effective climate change mitigation programs. This study aimed to formulate specific allometric equations and carbon stock for B. senegalensis in Cameroon. Destructive sampling technique was used for harvesting and weighing the biomass of 40 individual trees. Allometric models were developed using biomass as dependent variable and tree dendrometric parameters as independent variables. Accurate estimates of above-ground biomass (AGB) and below-ground biomass (BGB) are essential for estimating carbon (C) balances at various geographical scales and formulating effective climate change mitigation programs. This study aimed to formulate specific allometric equations and carbon stock for B. senegalensis in Cameroon. Destructive sampling technique was used for harvesting and weighing the biomass of 40 individual trees. Allometric models were developed using biomass as dependent variable and tree dendrometric parameters as independent variables. Energy from the sun is an ideal new energy source for power systems, in a context of sustainable development, enthusiasm for concentrated solar power technologies is developing. Accurate estimation of clear-sky radiation is needed in many engineering, architectural and agricultural applications in order to integrate solar energy into the power grid. An evaluation of the irradiance input to solar power systems is required in many applications. Clear-sky models represent the maximum input of solar power systems, which is especially useful for forecasting solar irradiance and numerical weather prediction. This work examined the application of Yang model to estimate the monthly mean clear sky normal irradiance for northern Nigeria using meteorological variables like temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation considering the shading effect of the complex topography of terrain in Norther region of Nigeria, also to know the variation of beam radiation and diffuse radiation among the selected stations and also to ascertain the significance of aerosols, water vapor, and other transmittances in the estimation of the beam and diffuse radiation in the northern atmosphere. The modeling was computed using monthly mean maximum temperature and relative humidity gotten from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) for the period of fourteen years (1983-1997. The beam and diffuse irradiance for the northern atmosphere is compared by estimating their mean and standard deviation. Also, detailed information about the trend of radiation in each of the selected states in the northern hemisphere of Nigeria was obtained using a graphical method of data analysis. Result reveals that the value of beam and diffused radiation getting to the earth's surface depends on the aerosols, water vapour, atmospheric Ozone, gas transmittance and Rayleigh scattering. From the result above, the maximum beam radiation and the minimum diffused radiation occur during the raining season and the minimum beam radiation and maximum diffuse radiation occur during the dry season. This is due to the variations of these atmospheric constituents (aerosols, water vapour, atmospheric Ozone, gas transmittance and Rayleigh scattering) in the northern atmosphere on these seasons.

The aims of this investigation will be to describe the language style based on Spider-Martin Man's Joos: far from home films and to identify the dominant language styles of the movie "Spider-Man: far from home." The analyzes are based on Martin Joo's theory's five types of linguistic style: frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate. Qualitative research design was used in the research. Content or document analysis was used by researchers. The information is gathered by watching the film and the conversation containing the communication language is detected. Then classify according to the language styles found in the film and find the main kinds of language. The results of this research are as follows in the Spider-Man section: Far From the Home." These five language-style types are Frozen made up of two data (6,7%), formal three (10%), consultants of six data (20%), casual eleven (36,7%) and intimacy consisting of eight data. The following are the types of language-styles (26,6 percent). The Casual style is the most dominant type than other types from the result of the percentage. In last place, the style is frozen.

The aim of this study was to determine the phytochemical composition and micrographic charac-teristics of the plants consumed by Okapia johnstoni. Alchornea cordifolia is richer in total polyphenols (198.53±3.39 mg GAE/g DM) followed respectively by Musanga cer-copioides (91.87±6.71 mg GAE/g DM), Macaranga spinosa (59.65±6.54 mg GAE/g DM), Ficus val-lis-choudae (46.37±2.43 mg GAE/g DM), Cola acuminata (38.83±4.04 mg GAE/g DM), Pycnanthus angolensis (31.96±3.45 mg GAE/g DM), Alstonia boonei (31.55±1.60 mg GAE/g DM) and Trilepisium madagascariensis (25.18±0.99 mg GAE/g DM). As for flavonoids, the highest content is obtained in T. madagascariensis followed respectively by A. boonei, Pycnanthus angolensis, Cola acuminata, M. spinosa, F. vallis-choudae, M. cercopioides and A. cordifolia. The difference in the content of secondary me-tabolites is justified by the fact that their expression in the plant is a function of both abiotic and biotic factors and the specificity of each plant species linked to its genetic make-up. The charac-terization of these chemical compounds is necessary for the formulation of herbal medicines for the management of Okapi ex situ or for human health. Also, the microscopic profiles of the leaves powder of the studied plant species provide relevant information, which may be helpful for the plant authentication and for quality control of raw material.

The traditional electric grid of the City of Kumba has been experiencing a constant failure which leads inhabitant to experience constant blackout. This constant blackout persists and stays for a long time due to the lack of communication between equipment, consumer and supplier. Whenever there is a fault, the repairing agents walk along the feeder to find the fault. This manual fault finding increases the restauration time which leads to the augmentation of the blackout period. Factors responsible for the failure of the line are complex to be controlled. It is necessary to reduce restauration time by introducing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and sensing system in the grid and making it to be smart. ICT in this smart grid, sensors and smart meters are meant to assure two-way communication between the supplier and the consumer. They send real time information which is computed at the control center to optimize the entire grid. Distributed generation is also introduced in the system for two purposes. To complete the lag in power demand of the grid and to take over the supply when the main feeder is faulty. Various distributed generation sources studied led to the choice of solar power plants thanks to their low production of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and availability of their resources in the city. A model has been proposed for the distributed generation and optimization of the smart grid. The system indexes obtained without distributed generation in the grid are different from that with. The difference in these indexes proved that the grid has been optimized. However, the reliability of the grid is enhanced after the introduction of distributed generation into the system. This enhancement in reliability declares that with distributed generation into the grid, the population of Kumba has a reliable power supply, which makes them to have energy throughout.

In modern times, a lot of light has been thrown on Information literacy by empirical studies due to its significant role in facilitating access to information and use as well as lifetime learning. It is one of the main factors responsible for the information explosion and a key determining factor for students’ success in academics. The study gauged students’ attitudes on the IL programmes of the University for Development Studies (UDS) using both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The study discovered that students did not consider the library as a source of academic knowledge and information since their frequency of visiting was low. The study also showed that 43.1% of the respondents go to the library at least once a week while the majority (56.9%) of the respondents either visited the library once a month or not at all. Early Childhood and Basic Education, Development Education, Social Change Communication and Renewable Natural Resources, are the courses pursued by those who utilized the library every day. Alternatively, no student pursuing B. Ed Business Studies made use of the library daily and 48.6% of them did not enter the library at all. The majority (58%) of the respondents had not been oriented on the use of the library. It was realized that 49.8% were knowledgeable of the fact that electronic resources are available in the library. The remaining (50.2%) did not have any knowledge of electronic resources in the library and were unlikely to make use of them. The utilization of electronic resources also varied according to programmes of study. Students who had comparatively higher access to such resources were pursuing Early Childhood and Basic Education. The study also realized that students’ interest in participating in Information Literacy programmes in the university increased and this increased the quality of their information literacy skills. With their awareness and know-how in information literacy, they can use the internet to retrieve the necessary information for academic work. The study makes some recommendations, Principals and Deans should coordinate to organize more Information Literacy Programmes, increased staff participation in the teaching of the IL Programmes and lastly, implementation of Academic Board pronouncements on the IL Programme. This will go a long way to improve access and enhance the use of information in the university.

Online shopping is a growing phenomenon and social media namely Facebook has radically changed consumers online purchase behaviour; especially the interactive information system of consumers, peers, and vendors. Similar to other online purchasing products or services, e-cigarette marketing in Facebook has potential. This study aims to determine the association between individual’s online interaction and e-cigarette purchase intention from Facebook vape groups. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 214 respondents using the Facebook platform from September to December 2019. Data were collected via a self-administered questionnaire. The Chi-square test was used for data analyses using SPSS (version 25.0). Most of the participants were male; the mean age of the respondents was 27.41 ± 2.1. Total 93.9% (201 of 214) and 56.1% (120 of 214) respondents were vaper and smoker respectively. Among the non-smokers, most of the respondents were vaper (84 of 94, 89.4%). Consumers smoking and vaping status were associated with each other (χ2 = 6.11, P=0.01). There was an association between vaping status and purchase intention of e-cigarettes from the Facebook vape group (χ2 = 5.06, P=0.02). Online interactions, namely like (χ2 = 5.88, P <0.01), post (χ2 = 7.16, P <0.01) and sharing (χ2 = 10.14, P <0.01) of the e-cigarette related information or advertisements in social media were associated with purchase intention of e-cigarettes from Facebook vape group. This study revealed individuals vaping and online interactions were associated with an online purchase the intention of e-cigarette in Facebook. Public health researchers and policymakers might contemplate the regulatory environment of online marketing of e-cigarettes to curtail the uptake of e-cigarettes among non-smokers.

The heart remained a mystery for many years and was considered surgically untouchable. With the use of extracorporeal circulation, there has been a revolution in this area. Due to its mechanical components and interactions with blood, cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) can cause significant changes in the body. Factors such as contact between artificial materials and blood, continuous flow, hemodilution, hypothermia and anticoagulation affect all organs during CPB, and may result in various complications. The minimally invasive extracorporeal circulation (MiECC) system was developed to minimize the contact of blood with air and foreign surfaces during conventional CPB. In addition, the biocompatibility of the components that make up the MiECC circuits increased, which reduced the inflammatory response. The absence of a venous reservoir and shorter lines allow the prime volume to be used to decrease, which also reduces the damage to the blood elements, and consequently, the need for blood transfusion. The MiECC system also has its downsides, the most important one being the difficulty in removing the air that can enter through the venous line, the impairment of the pump function, and embolization. During the use of these systems, perfusion safety and communication with the whole team must be at the highest level. In line with this information, the use of these systems can become standard in cardiac surgery with new technological additions.

COVID-19 demonstrated a global catastrophe that touched everybody, including the scientific community. As we respond and recover rapidly from this pandemic, there is an opportunity to guarantee that the fabric of our society includes sustainability, fairness, and care. However, approaches to environmental health attempt to decrease the populations burden of COVID-19, toward saving patients from becoming ill along with preserving the allocation of clinical resources and public safety standards. This paper explores environmental and public health evidence-based practices toward responding to Covid-19. A literature review tried to do a deep dive through the use of various search engines such as Mendeley, Research Gate, CAB Abstract, Google Scholar, Summon, PubMed, Scopus, Hinari, Dimension, OARE Abstract, SSRN, Academia search strategy toward retrieving research publications, “grey literature” as well as reports from expert working groups. To achieve enhanced population health, it is recommended to adopt widespread evidence-based strategies, particularly in this uncertain time. As only together can evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) can become a reality which include effective policies and practices, transparency and accountability of decisions, and equity outcomes; these are all more relevant in resource-constrained contexts, such as Nigeria. Effective and ethical EIDM though requires the production as well as use of high-quality evidence that are timely, appropriate and structured. One way to do so is through co-production. Co-production (or co-creation or co-design) of environmental/public health evidence considered as a key tool for addressing complex global crises such as the high risk of severe COVID-19 in different nations. A significant evidence-based component of environmental/public health (EBEPH) consist of decisions making based on best accessible, evidence that is peer-reviewed; using data as well as systematic information systems; community engagement in policy making; conducting sound evaluation; do a thorough program-planning frameworks; as well as disseminating what is being learned. As researchers, scientists, statisticians, journal editors, practitioners, as well as decision makers strive to improve population health, having a natural tendency toward scrutinizing the scientific literature aimed at novel research findings serving as the foundation for intervention as well as prevention programs. The main inspiration behind conducting research ought to be toward stimulating and collaborating appropriately on public/environmental health action. Hence, there is need for a “Plan B” of effective behavioural, environmental, social as well as systems interventions (BESSI) toward reducing transmission.

Background: Cancer surveillance data provide information on the incidence and trends of cancer in the population level. Analyzing cancer trends according to these characteristics plays an important role in cancer surveillance. Knowledge of the causes of cancer allow better prevent the appearance of it. A large number of epidemiological evidence supporting the effect of smoking on the causes of cancer there is strong evidence supporting a role for smoking in the etiology of cancers. Alcohol appears to interact with the tobacco significantly and can be considered a risk factor in the development of cancers. Obesity which is now well recognized as a public health problem increases the risk of developing cancers. All these factors are characterized by uncertainty, complexity and imprecision. Methods: In this study, we propose an analysis of these factors based on the principles of fuzzy logic inference system. The data were collected from WHO data. As this technique addresses the uncertain, its application in this area is perfectly adequate. Results: A database is established, after the analysis system is done, it will be possible to read the prevalence of cancer by introducing randomly the values in inputs variables. Conclusion: like cancer has become a national scourge, this application allows predicting the impact of it just from the introduction inputs variables such as BMI, degree of physical activity, tobacco and sex.

The average electricity consumption in Iranian households is higher than the world average. This can be due to price factors (such as cheap electricity in the country) and non-price factors (such as socio-demographic variables and psychological factors). In this study, non-price factors such as socio-demographic variables and psychological factors in the electricity consumption of urban households in Tehran were investigated. In this regard, using the theoretical foundations of behavioral economics and the psychology of planned behavior, this issue was analyzed. This study collected information on household electricity consumption behavior through a questionnaire and fieldwork from 2560 Tehran households. Results Using econometric techniques, linear regression was estimated, the dependent variable of which was electricity consumption (45 days in winter 2019) and its independent variables including socio-demographic variables (age, sex, number of household members, income) and The variables of the theory of planned behavior (attitude, mental norms and perceived behavioral control) showed that income and the number of household members have a significant and positive effect on electricity consumption, but gender has no significant effect. Of the psychological variables, only perceived behavioral control has a significant effect on electricity consumption. These results show that the consumer does not have a positive attitude towards saving, and mental and social norms do not encourage him to reduce electricity consumption, and they are not effective in consumption control. Finally, the study results were analyzed using behavioral biases that may cause attitudes and beliefs not to lead to action.

Acoustic Properties of Musanga Cecrepoides Wood Samples Obtained from Different Stem Positions in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria

Abstract Musanga cecrepoides is an interesting wood species due to its diverse utility ranging from medicine, shade, ornaments etc. Research has been conducted on other properties of this wood species with little information about its acoustic properties. Thus, the evaluation of its acoustic properties is pertinent so as to increase the information bank of its properties. This study assessed the acoustic properties of Musanga cecrepoides wood obtained from selected states and locations in the Niger Delta region of Nigerian viz a vis, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States. Test samples were collected from different stem positions axially (top, middle, base) and radially (inner and outer) and analyzed using the statistical software package IBM SPSS Statistics, Version 23 (IBM Corporation, New York, USA). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed at 5% level of significance to determine whether the assessed acoustic properties were significantly different among different stem positions. Results showed that sound frequency (f) at top wood (3061.71 Hz) and outer wood (3096.06 Hz) had significantly higher resonance frequency compared with the bottom wood (2768.01 Hz) and inner wood (2349.54 Hz) respectively. The mean sound velocity (v) at both the axial (2069.59 m/s) and radial (1905.96 m/s) stem positions fell short of the estimated mean v of other wood species when compared. However, such result is suitable for other acoustic purposes with moderate sound velocity. The sound radiation coefficient (R) values were highest at the bottom (4.18) axially and outer (4.13) radially when compared to other stem orientations of the wood. The sound radiation coefficient (R) values were highest at the bottom (4.18) axially and outer (4.13) radially when compared to other stem orientations of the wood. Whereas axially at the top (1561815.86 Kg/(m2s)) and radially at the outer position (1558292.53 Kg/(m2s) Sound Impedance (z) was highest when compared with other stem positions of the Musanga cecrepoides wood.

Furthermore, this essay will present an analysis of the shoreline changes and the resultant geomorphologies during the prehistoric eras, especially the Mesolithic, Neolithic, and the Helladic eras of the area. Earth Observation Techniques to Assess Water Quality Monitoring in the Murray Darling Basin of Australia

The Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) currently has been using a discrete field sampling technique for water quality monitoring that is expensive, time consuming and may not adequately represent the spatial variability of water quality relative to the entire water body. A pilot project was executed to assess the effectiveness of using earth observation data, supported by archived field-based observations for quantitative estimation of Water Quality Parameters (WQP) and detection of algal blooms in the River Murray. The selected pilot study area includes a 100km stretch of the River Murray between the Hume Dam and Yarrawonga Weir. The time frame for the archived field samples was between November 2008 and March 2011, when major algal blooms were occurring in this stretch of the Murray River.Analysis of the 2009 data shows that waters in sites in the Murray River downstream of the Hume Dam to the Yarrawonga Weir show more temporal than spatial variability in Chl-a and PC levels. The Chl-a concentration is relatively less in the Yarrawonga Weir than in the Murray River. The scatter plot of PC vs. Turbidity suggests that PC is a more significant parameter for the detection of Cyanobacteria than Chl-a. The field data represents the temporal bio-optical variability across the 2009 algal bloom events by successfully capturing the co-variations among Chlorophyll-a, Chycocyanin and turbidity at pre, during and post bloom conditions. The methodology has proved that the usefulness of an integrated earth observation and field based WQP technique to accurately map algal bloom events. The long term MDBA RMWQMP data for the 2009 bloom event is found partially compatible to the NOW Pilot study data in that only the data for the Heywood site that was used together for testing the WQP monitoring technique. The incompatibility of the RMWQMP data downstream of Yarrawonga Weir may be due to differing techniques used for determining Chlorophyll. The 2010 data was suitable for testing the technique for complex spatial bio-optical variability during the peak of the bloom in a large water storage. Lack of Chlorophyll measurements in 2010 data poses challenges in interpreting the relationship of bio-optical variability with the spatial distributions of bio-optical parameters. As relational parameters are absent, local information and expert advice will be required to develop plausible assumptions between the Chlorophyll - Phycocyanin relationship. The field sampled data for the 2010 bloom event acquired from the Hume Dam was used for comparative investigation of both moderate resolution sensors (MODIS and MERIS) and high resolution sensors (TM/TM+). The 2009 bloom event field samples of sites in the Yarrawonga Weir was used as an input with MODIS and MERIS and the data from all the sites was applied with TM/TM+. This paper will present an integrated earth observation and field based WQP technique to accurately map algal bloom events, and discuss challenges for real time earth observation data initiatives and future collaborative projects.

The unrelenting proliferation of data, entwined with the prevalence of mobile devices, has given birth to an unprecedented growth of information obscured by noise. With the Internet of Things and myriad endpoint devices generating vast volumes of sensitive and critical data, organizations are tasked with extracting actionable intelligence from this deluge. Governments and enterprises alike, even under pressure from regulatory boards, have strived to harness the power of data and leverage it to enhance safety and security, maximize performance, and mitigate risks. However, the adversaries themselves have capitalized on the unequal battle of big data and artificial intelligence to inflict widespread chaos. Therefore, the demand for big data analytics and AI/ML for high-fidelity intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance is at its highest. Today, in the cybersecurity realm, the detection of adverse incidents poses substantial challenges due to the sheer variety, volume, and velocity of deep packet inspection data. State-of-the-art detection techniques have fallen short of detecting the latest attacks after a big data breach incident. On the other hand, computational intelligence techniques such as machine learning have reignited the search for solutions for diverse monitoring problems. Recent advancements in AI/ML frameworks have the potential to analyze IoT/edge-generated big data in near real-time and assist risk assessment and mitigation through automated threat detection and modeling in the big data and AI/ML domain. Industry best practices and case studies are examined that endeavor to showcase how big data coupled with AI/ML unlocks new dimensions and capabilities in improved vigilance and monitoring, prediction of adverse incidents, intelligent modeling, and future uncertainty quantification by data resampling correction. All of these avenues lead to enhanced robustness, security, safety, and performance of industrial processes, computing, and infrastructures. A view of the future and how the potential threats due to the misuse of new technologies from bandwidth to IoT/edge, blockchain, AI, quantum, and autonomous fields is discussed. Cybersecurity is again playing out at a pace set by adversaries with low entry barriers and debilitating tools. The need for innovative solutions for defense from the emerging threat landscape, harnessing the power of new technologies and collaboration, is emphasized.

The growth in demand for rail transportation systems within cities, together with high-speed and long-distance transportation running on a rail network, raises the issues of both rail safety and security. If an accident or an attack occurs, its consequences can be extremely severe. To mitigate the impact of these events, the real-time monitoring of a rail system is required. In that case, the improvements in monitoring can be achieved using artificial intelligence algorithms such as neural networks. Neural networks have been used to achieve real-time incident identification in monitoring the track quality in terms of classifying the graphical outputs of an ultrasonic system working with the rails and track bed, to predict incidents on the rail infrastructure due to transmission channels becoming blocked, and also to attempt scheduling preemptive and preventative maintenance. In terms of forecasting incidents and accidents on board the trains, neural networks have been used to model passenger behavior and optimize responses during a train station evacuation. In tackling the incidents and accidents occurring on rail transport, we contribute with two methodologies to detect anomalies in real-time and identify the level of security risk: at the maintenance level with personnel operating along the railways, and onboard passenger trains. These methodologies were evaluated on real-world datasets and shown to be able to achieve a high accuracy in the results. The results generated from these case studies also reveal the potential for network-wide applications, which could enhance security and safety on railway networks by offering the possibility of better managing network disruptions and more rapidly identifying security issues. The speed and coverage of the information generated through the implementation of these methodologies have implications in utilizing prediction for decision support and enhancing safety and security on board the rail network.

The growing complexity and variability in healthcare delivery and costs within Medicare Advantage (MA) and Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans present significant challenges for improving health outcomes and managing expenditures. Neural networks, a subset of artificial intelligence (AI), have shown considerable promise in optimizing healthcare processes, particularly in predictive modeling, personalized treatment recommendations, and risk stratification. This paper explores the application of neural networks in enhancing health outcomes within the context of Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans. We review how deep learning models can be leveraged to predict patient risk, optimize resource allocation, and identify at-risk populations for preventive interventions. Additionally, we discuss the potential for neural networks to improve claims processing, reduce fraud, and streamline administrative burdens. By integrating various data sources, including medical records, claims data, and demographic information, neural networks enable more accurate and efficient decision-making processes. Ultimately, this approach can lead to better patient care, reduced healthcare costs, and improved satisfaction for beneficiaries of these programs. The paper concludes by highlighting the current limitations, ethical considerations, and future directions for AI adoption in the Medicare Advantage and Supplement sectors.

This is a comprehensive, multi-year study designed to explore proactive security technologies implemented in cloud-driven retail technology architectures. Deploying cloud technologies in the retail environment creates a need for more comprehensive and proactive security technologies that protect both the psychological estate and fiscal estate. This work contributes to cloud-driven retail research by investigating anticipatory security technologies across numerous case studies. These case studies offer best practice models for elevating proactive cybersecurity in retail environments. The academic and professional communities currently lack security information and practices that apply to the retail environment. It is anticipated that the final results of this project will have value in shaping the next set of research in cybersecurity in retail environments. Many retail organizations are restricted to reactive security operations. Advanced security technologies operate on piloted activations that require the intervention of security analysts. In actuality, basic security products and security operations are now piloted by automation and machine learning. In one case study, a retail CTO shares a forensics example using a proactive security technology aimed at both psychological estate and fiscal estate. In another case study, direct discussions provide a retail university lecturer with insight into the use of driven intelligence for inventory management. The use of card technology for a model is used as an example that can be implemented as security technology which can be offered as a service to retail organizations.

A Changing World Demands Optimized Health Surveillance Systems – and How Data Engineering Can Help There is a growing urgency to manage the public health and emergency response practices effectively today, in light of complex and emerging health threats. Fortunately, a host of new tools, including big and streaming data sources, methods such as machine learning, new types of hardware like blockchain or secure enclaves, and means of data storage and retrieval, have emerged. But, with these innovations comes a grand challenge: how to blend with, and adapt them to, the traditional public health practices. The long-in-place infrastructures and protocols to protect and ensure the welfare of communities are in need of change, or at least update, to enhance their marked longevity of impact directly on the health outcomes and community wellbeing they were designed to fortify. It is in this vein that the essay is written and composed. The investigation in this essay is to query what, particularly, might be the aspects and influences of the emerging veritable cornucopia of new data engineering frameworks that are either being developed specifically for health surveillance and wellness, or are available to be co opted from devices and services already thriving in the current market and research milieu. Knowing what these ways may be could well aid in molding their uptake and spread, ensuring their beneficial impacts on those communities who stand to gain the most. The essay is divided into several key segments. After this introduction, section two details the research methods. In the section that follows, the maximum health outcome potentials of these novel frameworks are reviewed. Part four of the essay takes a more critical approach, addressing how the success of these methods may be hindered and future research avenues. Lastly, the concluding information suggests some actions to take to aid best suit the implementation of these ways, and suggests some thoughts for further research after the completion of these inquiriestrand [1].

Innovations in computing and communication technologies are reshaping finance. The seismic changes are casting uncertainty about the future of financial services. On one hand, fintech evangelists project a rosy future, asserting that the fast-moving algorithms can deliver low-cost financial services intuitively, customized to meet robust consumer expectations. On the other hand, many finance veterans fret that the traditional banking model could disintermediate, bleeding banks via a ‘death by a thousand cuts’, reducing them to passive portfolio holders with no direct customer relationship, eclipsed by digital giants which use their enormous treasure troves of customer data to offer banking as an added service with nearly free cost. Amidst the upbeat technological promises and apocalyptic forebodings, there are two constant, mostly agreed-upon, truths. The first is the vital importance of data. Advances in the internet, cloud computing, and record-keeping technologies are producing an ‘exponential growth in the volume and detail of data’. Some of this big data are personal information. Smartphones are deployed in almost all developed and emerging economies, serving as little spies; tracking, recording location histories, social networks, and app usage of their unsuspecting owners; often with a great degree of precision. ‘People are walking data-factories’ in this ‘mobile digital society’. Data are the fermentation of these global exchanges, electronic commerce and communication, and financial transactions. To just take Facebook as an example, it shares 30 million people a day through updates and posts, hosting personal information on 2.23 billion users. To the alarm of the uninformed public, much of this information is available for commercial harvest. The second constant is the rise of intelligent solutions. Consumers today—be it disclosed or not—are fed tailored clothes, music, film, holiday packages—almost anything you like, notably dynamic pricing, varying in accordance with individual profiles, or personalized search results. The availability of powerful computers has enabled comparable applications that are intended to make the system more responsive to their customer profiles and desires, or to capitalize competitive business possibilities. Such changes will transform the financial industry and occupy a prominent position among the mechanisms of policy competition, reshaping the way in which financial services are bestowed and led on the demand side.

Advances of wearables, sensors, smart devices, and electronic health records have generated patient-oriented longitudinal data sources that are analyzed with advanced analytical tools to generate enormous opportunities to understand patient health conditions and needs, transforming healthcare significantly from conventional paradigms to more patient-specific and preventive approaches. Artificial intelligence (AI) with a machine learning methodology is prominently considered as it is uniquely suitable to derive predictions and recommendations from complex patient datasets. Recent studies have shown that precise data aggregation methods exhibit an important role in the precision and reliability of clinical outcome distribution models. There is an essential need to develop an effective and powerful multifunctional machine learning platform to enable healthcare professionals to comprehend challenging biomedical multifactorial datasets to understand patient-specific scenarios and to make better clinical decisions, potentially leading to the optimist patient outcomes. There is a substantial drive to develop the networking and interoperability of clinical systems, the laboratory, and public health. These steps are delivered in concert with efforts at enabling usefully analytic tools and technologies for making sense of the eruption of overall patient’s information from various sources. However, the full efficiency of this technology can only be eliminated when ethical, legal, and social challenges related to reducing the privacy of healthcare information are successfully absorbed. Public and media are to be informed about the capabilities and limitations of the technologies and the paramount to be balanced is juvenile public healthcare data privacy debate. While this is ongoing, the measures have been progressed from patient data protection abuses for progress to realize the full potential of AI technology for hosting the health system, with benefits for all stakeholders. Any protection program should be based on fairness, transparency, and a full commitment to data privacy. On-going innovative systems that use AI to manage clinical data and analyzes are proposed. These tools can be used by healthcare providers, especially in defining specific scenarios related to biomedical data management and analysis. These platforms ensure that the significant and potentially predictive parameters associated with the diagnosis, treatment, and progression of the disease have been recognized. With the systematic use of these solutions, this work can contribute to the realization of noticeable improvements in the provision of real-time, personalized, and efficient medicine at a reduced cost [1].

Intelligent Detection of Injection Attacks via SQL Based on Supervised Machine Learning Models for Enhancing Web Security

The most prevalent technique behind security data breaches exists through SQL Injection Attacks. Organizations and individuals suffer from sensitive information exposure and unauthorized entry when attackers take advantage of SQL injection (SQLi) attack vulnerability’s severe risks. Static and heuristic defense methods remain conventional detection tools for previous SQL injection attacks study's foundation is a detection system developed using the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) network, which attempts to efficiently identify SQL Injection attacks (SQLIAs). The suggested Gated Recurrent Unit model was trained using an 80:20 train-test split, and the results showed that SQL injection attacks could be accurately identified with a precision rate of 97%, an accuracy rate of 96.65%, a recall rate of 92.5%, and an F1-score of 94%. The experimental results, together with their corresponding confusion matrix analysis and learning curves, demonstrate resilience and outstanding generalization ability. The GRU model outperforms conventional machine learning (ML) models, including K-Nearest Neighbor’s (KNN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM), in terms of identifying sequential patterns in SQL query data. Recurrent neural architecture proves effective in the detection of SQLi attacks through its ability to provide secure protection for contemporary web applications.

The major automated plants have produced large volumes of high-quality products at low cost by introducing various technologies, including robotics and artificial intelligence. The code of many defects on the surface of products is embedded with economic loss and sometimes functionality loss because products are rarely found with defects. Therefore, most items’ production is done based on prediction and has an invisible fluctuation in production. The detection process for hidden defect images requires a lot of costs and needs to be supported for better progress and quality enhancement. Paint shop defects should be analyzed from color changes to detect defects effectively by preventing the variability of product demand over time. It is not easy to take visible light images without noise because the paint surfaces are glossy. A few parts of illumination and shadows remain in images, even in larger size and high-resolution images. The various painted surfaces are also needed to reflect both color and texture information in computer vision models to classify defects precisely. Several automated detection systems have been applied to paint shop inspections using lasers, infrared, x-ray, electrical, magnetic, and acoustic sensors. The chance of paint shop defects can be low, unnecessarily low, compared to clouds in the sky, but those chances impact defect functionalities. Thus, they are called as “lessons learned.” Lately, artificial intelligence has been introduced to the field of factory automation, and many defect detection feeds have found footsteps in machine learning and deep learning. Recent attempts at deep learning-based defect detection are proposing simple techniques using specific neural network architectures with big data. However, big data is still in its early stages, and significant challenges exist in normalizing and annotating such data. To get cost-efficient and timely solutions tailored to automotive paint shops, it might be a better consideration to combine deep learning solutions with traditional computer vision and more elaborate machine learning methods.

This paper shows how Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) automation facilitate regulatory compliance in Finance. Regulatory compliance is essential in helping institutions to mitigate reputational, litigation, and financial risk. Existing literature reveals several preconditions for compliance. However, much of the literature has adopted an internal view of compliance without considering external regulatory frameworks. This research draws on the cognitive model of regulation that looks at regulatory compliance as a social construct. It uses a triangulation research method comprising literature review, interview of trade compliance experts, and questionnaire survey of compliance practitioners to understand how regulation affects compliance and what role ICTs play in implementing compliance. The findings of this study present a regulatory compliance framework comprising four cognitive stages and a conceptual regulatory compliance system that presents how BDA and AI automation are applied to mitigate regulatory complexity and enhance regulatory compliance. The conceptual regulatory compliance system shows how BDA and AI enable institutions to dynamically assess regulatory risk, automatically monitor compliance, and intelligently predict risk violations mitigating regulatory complexity and preventing producing unnecessary documents. It provides theoretical contributions to understanding regulatory evolution and compliance and practical implications for understanding how regulation evolves to be more complicated and elements of a regulatory compliance system mitigate proliferating regulations. Additionally, it provides avenues for future research into the relationship between competing regulatory mandates and how institutions cope with that. Regulations are important for ensuring compliance and governance in finance and to curb systemic risk. Complying with regulations is difficult due to their growing volume, complexity, and fragmentation. Institutions use large-scale Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), such as Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) automation, to monitor compliance and mitigate regulatory complexity. However, less is known about how firms comply with regulation. Most literature does not thoroughly investigate regulatory elements nor explicitly relate them to compliance.

Thereafter, the essay explores how, if at all, the other digital activities of consumers across various product-related digital spaces and on various platforms build expertise and interest in these products such that they exert an effect on the purchase choices for these products. The essay then advances to asking how online information seeking, in various product-related digital spaces, on various platforms, and from various sources, and taking place at various points in the purchase journey affects online-offline dynamics in purchasing these products. Thereafter, the research examines how paid digital communication in various product-related digital spheres and forms, enabled by consumer advertising engagement on various platforms, boosts the offline sales of these products. Finally, by employing a new methodology that combines consumer scanning data, self-reported online activity data, and transaction data collected from an ad-tech partner, the research presents a fresh set of marketing action levers and performance outcomes on chosen products. Along the way, progress is made on four under-investigated topics in the advertising literature – the role of consumer actors and their expertise in the online-offline purchasing dynamics for ads, advertising engagement, consumer digital spaces, and consumer digital activity investment.

While several application domains are exploiting the added-value of analytics over various datasets to obtain actionable insights and drive decision making, the public policy management domain has not yet taken advantage of the full potential of the aforementioned analytics and data models. To this end, in this paper authors present an overall architecture of a cloud-based environment that facilitates data retrieval and analytics, as well as policy modelling, creation and optimization. The environment enables data collection from heterogeneous sources, linking and aggregation, complemented with data cleaning and interoperability techniques. An innovative approach for analytics as a service is introduced and linked with a policy development toolkit, which is an integrated web-based environment to fulfil the requirements of the public policy ecosystem stakeholders [1]. Large information databases on various public issues exist, but their usage for public policy formulation and impact analysis has been limited so far, as no cloud-based service ecosystem exists to facilitate their efficient exploitation. With the increasing availability and importance of both public big and traditional data, the need to extract, link and utilize such information efficiently has arisen. Current data-driven web technologies and models are not aligned with the needs of this domain, and therefore, potential candidates for big data, cloud-based and service-oriented public policy analysis solutions should be investigated, piloted and demonstrated [2]. This paper presents the conceptual architecture of such an ecosystem based on the capabilities of state-of-the-art cloud and web technologies, as well as the requirements of its users.

Building Foundational Data Products for Financial Services: A MDM-Based Approach to Customer, and Product Data Integration

Imagine a consumer financial services company with 20 million customers. Its sales and marketing organizations collaborate across product lines, deploying hundreds of marketing campaigns each quarter that aim to increase customer product usage and/or cross-buying of products. Each campaign is based on forecasts of customer responses derived from predictive models updated every quarter. The goals of these models are to achieve large return on investment ratios and to maximize contribution to local profit centers. What’s important is that their modeling is based only on data created, curated and maintained by these marketing organizations. The difference today is that the modeling is no longer based solely on a small number of response-determined variables that are constantly assessed in terms of importance. A quarterly campaign update generates hundreds of statistical models — involving campaign responses, purchase-lag time, the relative magnitude of the direct effect, and the cross-buying effects — using thousands of variables, including customer demographics, life stage, product transactions, household composition, and customer service history. It’s a network of models, not just a table of variable-by-residual importance values. But that’s only part of the story of data products. The predictive modeling utilized by these campaign plans is based on analytics and data preparation, which are data products in their most diminutive form. These products would be even more elementary were they not crafted quarterly by highly skilled, experienced modelers using advanced software and processes. Most companies have enough data to create models that contain not simply hundreds of variables, but thousands, so that the focus can return to information instead of data reduction. These models largely replace the internal econometric models previously used to produce advanced forecasts in the absence of campaign modeling. People used these forecasts to simulate ROI and contribution forecasts for the planned campaigns. In the old days, reliance on econometrically forecast ROI-guideline contribution values reduced the reliance on the marketing campaign modelers because of a lack of trust in their predictive ability.

Enterprise databases are the heart of applications and contain the most sensitive and critical information of organizations. While there have been significant advances in the security of databases, vulnerabilities still exist due to mistakes made by application developers, database administrators, and users. Manual detection and patching of such vulnerabilities typically take months, but an automated detection and remediation framework is proposed to fill the gap and eliminate a significant number of these vulnerabilities in near-real time. This framework comprises two key components: a detection engine that leverages static analysis to identify potential patches, coupled with query dynamic testing and fuzzing to identify exploitable misconfigurations; and an orchestration engine that applies detected patches on the database, validates the accuracy of the fix, and rolls back changes if the problem is not resolved. A prototype of this framework has been implemented and validated on a real-time database deployed in an enterprise environment. Because of the complexity of the problem landscape, the research focus is on static vulnerability detection and automated corrective actions. These two capabilities can greatly reduce the manual workload associated with vulnerability detection and significantly enhance the assurance that the granted privileges validate the least privilege principle. The proposed architecture aims to enable the deployment of a detection-and-remediation solution that minimizes human effort, reduces the enterprise-at-risk window, and maximizes the volume of detected vulnerabilities.

Seamless integration of information in organizations promotes not only the operational efficiency but also the quality of decisions made by managers. Real-time decision support systems enable organizations to evaluate organizational changes immediately and ideally gives a hint of problems before they even appear in the organization. Such real time systems are nowadays regarded as the front-line solutions for managing organizations effectively. The technological possibilities seem not to conquer management. For most companies the data is still dealt with traditional solutions, data is collected and reports are generated to evaluate the past occurrences which only gives information on what has happened in the organization. The problem with these non-real-time systems is the reflection of organizational condition very late. These are the common rear-mirror descriptions for what already has been. Managers are receiving information from their organizations too late and often too little to make optimal decisions. Is it not possible to manage operations in real-time? Is real-time decision support really needed? If so, why most organizations still rely on traditional reporting systems.

Existing EHR data platform architectures often leverage multiple cloud-based solutions blended with institutional infrastructures to manage and analyze clinical data at scale. Key design principles governing the scale of existing EHR data architecture include model design, governance structure, data access management, data security/policy/protection, data-information-language-based standardization, and analytics tool alignment, among others. The rapidly evolving technology landscape and the unprecedented volume of incident and retrospective clinical data being collected and generated within healthcare organizations have led to the emergent need for a dedicated architectural framework to support large-scale computing in the health informatics domain. The application areas of large-scale computing in health informatics include real-time predictive analytics, risk stratification, patient cohort analytics, development of predictive models for specific institutions or population groups, and many more. The use of EHR data for a multitude of decision-making processes in both clinical and non-clinical settings has prompted the establishment of policies prescribing the conditions of access and use of EHR data for non-employed individuals in the organization. Healthcare is increasingly recognized as a data-intensive industry. Multi-hospital networks, among other organizations, face mounting operational and governance challenges because of rigid data-integration pipelines that support all data sources and destinations in the network. These pipelines have become difficult to modify, causing them to lag behind the changing needs of the clinical operation. Scalable data-pipeline architectures better support clinical decision making, optimize hospital operations, ease data quality and compliance concerns, and contribute to improved patient outcomes. Meeting scalability goals requires breaking up monolithic data-integration pipelines into smaller decoupled components and aligning service-level agreements of pipeline components and source systems. Parallelization and adoption of distributed data-warehouse technology mitigate the burden of ingesting data into a multi-hospital network. However, latency requirements still warrant the construction of separate pipelines for data ingress from clinical devices, electronic health records, and external laboratory-information systems. Healthcare associations recommend near real-time data availability for a growing list of clinical and operational applications. Mishandling the real-time ingestion of data from clinical devices, in particular, compromises availability and performance. Scalable architectural patterns for real-time streaming Ingestion from heterogeneous data sources, transport processes, and back-end processing structures are detailed.
